    Leaving the next morning.

Everything. The place was dirty, falling apart, bugs, pubes, rust. The list goes on.

Excellent service in this budget hotel. Rooms are well tidy. Got enough parking space. The best thing is 24/7 reception.

It was a five-minute drive away from where we needed to be. Helpful, if somewhat officious, staff

Terrible room. Double bed pushed up against a wall, so one of us couldn't get in or out of bed easily. Given the layout of the room, it should be set up as a single or twin. Tea tray had no spoons and no milk. Tea tray and kettle set out on a table lower than knee height, so not easy or practical to use. In spite of the room smelling like it had been cleaned with industrial strength disinfectant, I got bitten on the leg by something. The rack in the shower was filthy and rusted. The basin tap had only cold water, no hot. Overall, a very old, gloomy place. Spend a little more and stay somewhere better.

    Nothing

State of building and surrounding area Rooms and furnishings Needed decorating and uneven dangerous surfaces. Broken furniture, there was something broken on each piece of furniture, uncomfortable bed, curtains hanging off poor fitted rail, no lamps or low-level lighting, toilet seat hanging off, shower boards in bathrooms weren't fitted together, gaps everywhere. There is no light near the sink and the only mirror in the room is above the sink. Dodgy electrics, switch fitted wrong way, 1 channel on the tv plus no back on remote, batteries kept falling out. It was cold uninviting and we were glad it was for only 1 night. The worst was that we booked a downstairs room due to mobility issues and was told there were no rooms downstairs, when we made the booking we specified this and they told us not a problem they would give us the downstairs room. No accommodating this, so we had to struggle up 3 stair levels. If we had seen the room before we paid, we wouldn't have stayed there. It also felt unsafe there were a group of men stood at the entrance gates when we arrived after our night out, and we had to ask the taxi to take us right up to the entrance door. We were going to go get a takeaway, but decided against it and went without food that night. We were also asked to pay £10 cash for a room key as we were nearly at our room, which we didn't as had no cash on us but said that was ok, and they also took a photo copy of my driving licence which I felt uncomfortable doing, never been asked to do this before in the uk

The staff were very polite and gracious and bed was comfy.

If I had paid £20 for a hostel-like stay this room would have been fine, however, the dynamic pricing for several events in Newcastle meant that this was incredibly disappointing. The cleaning of the room was perfunctory, old stains visible on bedspread, the draw of the bedside cabinet was filthy and unusable. The TV did not work, neither did the kettle in the room and when we tried to use the coffee machine in the lounge instead, we were told that was also broken. On arrival we were given the key to a room which someone else had already checking into, and were able to access their room with all of their things. There is no soundproofing and the noises of a couple across the hall arguing carried making it very difficult to sleep.

It’s an old building with lots of potential. Could be amazing if someone invested time and money into it.

The hotel has definitely seen better days, it’s looking a little weary, like it could use a strong coffee and a lie down of its own. That said, it was clean, and that counts for a lot. Some of the fixtures, however, were more tired than I was. The toilet in reception had no lock, our bathroom door didn’t close properly, and its lock looked like it was on the verge of retirement. One of the window restrictors had clearly been through some sort of dramatic incident, with broken wood still dangling. The wardrobe was leaning against the wall as if it, too, had simply given up. The rest of the room, to be fair, was fine. Clean, the bed was comfortable, and the first night was blissfully quiet. Staff were pleasant, though some of the interactions were slightly odd. I arrived late (10:40pm) and finding the place was pretty confusing. The main visible sign was for an old people’s home, and parking was… creative. A sign for “additional parking” led directly to a metal fence. I asked if I could park in front of that fence, as it didn’t look like it was used and my friend would still need to park. She would be able to block me in. I specifically asked of they needed access, reception said no access needed and to go ahead and park there. I didn’t expect to be asked for a £10 cash deposit for the key. I don’t carry cash, but I would have if I’d known. It’s not mentioned in any of the booking emails (I checked, twice). He kindly accepted a £5 note I found in my bag. When I suggested they might add it for clarity, the receptionist looked like I’d just complained. That was not my intention. Just a helpful suggestion for future guests to be able to prepare. The next morning, we were asked to move the cars because the shop needed access. No idea what shop. No problem at all, but a heads-up the night before would have avoided the shuffle. Plus it was 11:30am and we could have already headed out by then. I would have been mortified if I’d prevented access all day despite asking.

    Location, everything close by.

Room was too small. Only one towel given for 2 people. Tea and coffee was available in the room but drinking water was downstairs. No hot water on Bathroom tap.
