How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Asked via email if I could arrange and pay for wine/chocolates in our rooms prior to arrival as we had 2 celebrations. Response was that they would try and provide an upgrade of 1 room (but no response re wine/chocolates). No mention of celebrations or upgrade when we arrived, which I was disappointed with as wanted it to be special for my husband and daughter.

Unfortunately I couldn't get the TV to work properly, but that's on me for not contacting anyone to come up to fix it (it was early hours when I came back to the hotel after being out). I also couldn't have room service bring my breakfast to me. On this app, it states that I could have breakfast in my room. This implies to me that it would be brought to me. Reception said I could come downstairs and take it back up to my room, but it would cause issues with my OCD. Going forward I'd like to see the ambiguity cleared up on the wording. When I highlighted this whilst checking out the receptionist did wave my late check out fee but not my early checking in fee. I'm not too worried about that but it would have been nice to be reimbursed for the breakfast I never had. 12pm check-out and 2pm check-in as standard would be awesome too. That would have saved me £40 (although the £10 late check out fee was waved as previously mentioned). I was also told (paraphrasing) that it's paramount to not leave a bad review, and I'm all for giving the establishment the opportunity to improve before moaning. However, the onus should not be on me, but on the hotel so I wouldn't even consider writing a bad review in the first place.

Staff were rude even duty managers and my child came out the pool and had cut his toe somehow in the pool and staff and managers didn’t do anything about it no compensation or anything and then managers accused me off having 6 people in the room when they seen us come in and out as a family of four

Paid for an earlier check in, however, rooms weren't ready. When we could access the room, there was food under the coffee table. This was addressed quickly with the housekeeping staff. My early check-in fee was refunded without any fuss

Verified reviewThe breakfast was good, and the staff in the hotel restaurant where I ate twice were really friendly and helpful. The sauna was wonderful, and the room clean and bed comfy. The room was well equipped with an ironing board, tea facilities etc.
They didn't provide earplugs behind the desk which would have been helpful as it is in a lively area.

Verified reviewOutstanding support from the Duty Managers, who ensured our stay went well. We'd booked 3 rooms but booking.com had only informed the hotel of one room booking. I was on the phone to booking.com's customer service for almost half an hour and not really getting anywhere. The Duty Manager was so supportive throughout all this and, when the customer service from booking.com was being less than helpful by not providing any details about who in the hotel they were contacting to inform them that I did, in fact, book 3 rooms, it was the Duty Manager at the hotel who took the lead and said we would resolve it amongst ourselves because she could see we weren't getting anywhere with booking.com. I wish I'd got her name but I was so stressed because this was a last minute booking for one night only due to an issue with the hotel we were staying at the previous few nights (swimming pool out of service and I promised my nephew a swimming pool so needed to find somewhere with a pool!). The Duty Manager the following day was also incredibly accommodating and helpful in arranging a late check-out. The staff we met throughout the hotel were great and the facilities (namely, the pool, sauna and steam room) were enjoyed by all those in our group who wanted to use them. Very comfortable beds. Can't complain! A huge heartfelt thanks to the two Duty Managers we encountered - things could've been very different, had it not been for the two of you.
Minor but there was no support in getting our luggage taken up to our rooms. With two infants with us, and prams as well as luggage to carry, someone on hand to support with even the pram, if nothing else, would have been very helpful.
