How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

It wasn't so much about what I didn't like but the shower wasn't the best but overall it's an ideal spot. The shop across the road was great too.
Excellent location. Within walking distance of the town, the ferry terminal and very central for travelling to areas around Oban. Steve was friendly and helpful and suggested places to visit.

No parking, but it was fairly easy to find parking in surrounding streets.
Ideal central location, very clean and comfortable, Steve was a great host.

Wondered why the heating needed to be on in August but we did mange to turn off.
Steve was very welcoming and made us feel at home. Explained that now that tge licences were through, he hopes to do food. We woukd stay again.

My husband is a big tall man so found the shower a little small but it was fine for me. The room overall was very tiny compared to other places we’ve stayed at but it was very comfortable and suited our needs for the night. Otherwise great place.
Stayed for one night - host was great as we had to change our time of arrival due to being delayed from traffic accident. Thank you. Room had everything needed. Parking was available free after 6pm on the weekend until 9am - so this worked perfectly for us as we arrived just on 6pm . Nice little room for the night. Thank you

Could be noisy with main road traffic but earplugs helped get good nights sleep

The room is a bit small and being in the attic had sloping ceilings. Also the extractor in the bathroom didn't work.
There were a few teething problems like the door to the toilet came off its runners and the TV was impossible to control but Steve swiftly came to our aid. Needs some fixing. Beds not as comfortable and bathroom suffered some humidity damages.
Nice place near the centre but a bit rundown. It needs some refurbishing. Other than that host was very nice and very available.

The property faces onto a busy one way street so you're stepping from the small enclosed front garden and directly onto the road. There's no pavement there and at busy times it can be a challenge crossing to and from the property. Be quick to cross and don't rely on drivers slowing down or stopping for you! Despite this, probably the biggest gripe was the plumbing. Shower facilities were good but every time you flushed the toilet, the pipes rattled and groaned like a poltergeist shaking the room. I was praying not to have a calling during the small hours and awakening the whole building!
No breakfast or meal plan with this guesthouse but there are plenty of places to eat nearby. Room was small but adequate for my needs and was both clean and comfortable. My room was at the rear of the property and there was no noise from the busy road at the front so I enjoyed a quiet couple of nights. Good value for money as a stopover for work as accommodation in Oban can be a nightmare in the height of the tourist season.

On a busy main road so some noise till late/from early from traffic and tourists/revellers.
Easy to walk to from station. Basic amenities and decor but ok for one night at the price.

A couple of small bits made the room look more on the tired side, looked as though there'd been a leak in the roof, and that needed refinishing to make the room a1.
View was great, place was quiet, meaning a good night's sleep! Great position.

owners are not at the location so remember to check your messages with instructions on parking and access to the room; we sent a particular request through booking which was confirmed but not fulfilled; curtains very thin so in summer months difficult to sleep due to early dawn (daylight); no small bedside lamps, only the main one; toiletries not provided (ie. shampoo bottle was empty); bathroom slide door doesn't close all the way.
