Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesFloors were not very clean anywhere. Tv was tiny. Checkout slow. Long line that didn't seem necessary.
Price compared to alternatives. Grounds were attractive. Close to bus stop.

United StatesWalls were very thin, to the point that when anyone in my hall opened their door during the night, it sounded like my door was opening (I don't know how the students put up with this!). A lot of mildew in the shower as well, but thankfully my hall had a separate bath/shower that was much better.
Great value and well-run operation. Very easy to get to the city center with multiple bus routes dropping off right outside the campus. It's a university dorm, so the room was nothing fancy, but it matched the pictures and was spacious for one person.

FinlandQuite expensive (though Edinburgh is). For this price usually furniture in rooms in better condition and own bathrooms. Were ok though. Lots of people in the hotel so at peak times Breakfast facilities really full and also there can be a long que for check-in. Also gym and swimming pool not included.
Nice place to stay. Nice surroundings, especially the nearby park with Arthur's seat. Also liked that there's a swimming pool and gym right next to the hotel. Really nice staff too. Facilities ok. Breakfast was also quite nice.

United KingdomCleanliness was not great. Clean sheets, dusted etc but mould in showers and the carpets really needed a deep clean. I expect they do the yearly deep clean before the students come back but at the end of the hot summer season, the place was pretty stinky and in need of a deep clean.
The views to Arthur's seat are perfect. Nice walk to city centre or buses nearby. Very good value for edinburgh which is so expensive for accommodation, especially considering the big and varied breakfast. Great option when traveling as a group because everyone gets their own space. There is parking which is a major win in edinburgh, but limited spaces.

GermanyDuring breakfast, I was missing some vegetables to supplement the variety but this is only a minor thing.
The accommodation is located in a quiet part of the city but the centre as well as the Holyrood Park can be reached fairly quickly. The beds were super comfortable!

AustriaThere was a big gap under the door of the room which let light and noise from the hallway inside. I didn't mind it, but someone who is a light sleeper might have a problem with that.
Staff was very friendly, location was great and I had a mountain view!

United KingdomThe kettle was small for a twin room. It had a faulty switch that only worked intermittently, then not at all. We reported it was broken after the first night of a two night stay. We returned from a long day out in the city to find it had not been mended or replaced. When we phoned Reception, they were apologetic but said it couldn't be rectified until the next day when the housekeeping staff were back on duty. It was disappointing not to be able to brew up. Fortunately, we found a larger kettle in the nearby Pantry.
Good location within the city & close to good bus routes. The university site itself was full of mature trees & lush undergrowth. Wide variety of tasty breakfast options.

United KingdomCheck in time is appalling. No idea why it takes so long if you have already paid. Not the staffs fault at all they were very good, just the system needs sorting out it’s a very bad first impression you get. The rooms are small and basic and walls paper thin. The furniture is dated and seen better days. The sink in the room doesn’t drain properly. Would be nice if there was more space in the bathrooms.
The view from the window was beautiful facing out to Arthur’s seat. The breakfast is fantastic, loads of vegan options. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Plenty of facilities on every floor, access to fridge and iron/ironing board, a common room to chill out.

United KingdomRisk of the toilet paper disappearing inside the locked holders! Other guests failing to use the bath mats provided and leaving the shower room floor wet (maybe there could be a sign up reminding them to bring it from their room?). I would prefer one hand and one bath towel rather than two bath towels, so I can easily keep track of which is which (but that's very picky!) Only 3 hangers. Other guests leaving smelly food in the fridge and going home (maybe there could be a sign up reminding them to take or throw it away when they leave!).
The excellent buffet breakfasts. Pleasant room. View of Arthur's seat. Proximity of bath/shower & toilet to my room. Lift to rooms. Shop on site. Reception on site. Kitchen facilities. Laundry facilities. Easy access to Fringe venues on foot or by bus.
