Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NorwayBeds are a little hard and uncomfortable.
Within very comfortable walking distance to almost anything in edinburgh. Facilities were clean and nice. Loved the showers where you could lock the door instead of just a curtain. The sleeping pods helped with lowering noise. No waking up during the night due to others moving. Staff was super friendly.

United KingdomThe cleanliness of the toilet at night is somewhat less than during the day.
The staff at the front reception are not only friendly but also welcoming, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere right from the moment you arrive.

SingaporeUSB C charging port inside my pod didn’t work.
Very new and clean. The 8 persons female dorm I stayed in was very quiet and everyone was generally considerate and slept early. Hairdryers were provided. The pod offered sufficient privacy. Amazing location right beside St Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile. I stayed in summer (end Aug) and there was air conditioning in the room.

IrelandStaff were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble! Luggage storage was 24/7, so perfect for early flights in and late flights out. Location was amazing, so close to everything. Rooms were comfortable and clean, locker was secure and easy to use, and bright and dimmer lights were available to use in each pod. Bathrooms were very clean also.

GermanyI had a pod in the basement, the only thing I could think of would be the lighting in the dorm itself could be optimized and maybe less doors with codes, but I do get that this part of the theme.
Great concept and very lovely Hostel experience with a bit more privacy than in an usual Hostel dorm

SpainThey were understaffed at the bar during busy periods
Staff were mega and the hostel is pretty new. The Courtroom, although it can sound silly the amount of beds in there, it is a humongous room, plenty of space and with two pod areas separated by a middle common area

United KingdomAt my last visit ( 2023) there was a guest kitchen, with fridge etc to store your ( labelled) food. I was only stopping for one night, and as I knew that there was a fridge there ( their website, which I checked prior to my visit, confirmed that no food was allowed in rooms, and food had to be put in fridge and labelled- anything not labelled would be removed etc etc- pretty clear rules) I brought food to eat on my train journeys too and from Edinburgh, with the intention of storing it overnight in the fridge. On arrival, I asked one of the housekeeping team, where the fridge was , to be told that there was no longer a kitchen/ fridge for guests! I mentioned that their website clearly stated that no food was allowed in the rooms - there was a fridge for guests to store clearly marked food etc etc. She acknowledged that the website still stated this, but, there was no longer a guest kitchen!! I have therefore ‘broken the rules’ by having this food in the room, and having to waste this food, as the room was so warm, I doubt that the food was safe to eat. Surely, the website should have been updated following the alteration of the property- it is now late August!! Apart from this, I still think that this is a lovely place to stay
My second stay here, both due to attending concerts at Murrayfield ( Springsteen and AC/DC) when price was main consideration as well as location. This time, prices were high all over Edinburgh due to concert and Fringe festival. Tattoo etc, but this ( just about) came within my budget. Great location for exploring Edinburgh and beyond. Friendly, helpful staff. The property had changed a bit since my last visit- the ground floor is now a bar/ taverna etc.

SwedenDue to a fire safety procedure, there was a leakage above my pod and my only pair of shoes got soaked. I was already very tired after my trip at that point and was disappointed, but the staff were very understanding and empathetic which was very comforting. They offered all possible solutions and the problem was easily solved! Very expensive, but it is understandable due to the festival in the city.
Pods were very comfortable - even though at first I felt a bit confined, you get used to it quickly. Very comfy beds and for a hostel, you get plenty of privacy. Staff is nice and great!

DenmarkMy overall opinion of this place is vey good and this is literally just nitpicking. The pods were a bit tight and if you moved too much you'd bang on the walls easily, which isn't too nice if someone's in the pod next to you and trying to sleep, i feel like some form of muffling would have been nice. And my cable for my headphones didn't work in the usb charger that was in the pod but there were extra plugs on the table outside the pods so it didn't matter much.
The staff was the absolute best thing about this place. I had to reschedule mid-trip and the staff was so friendly and helpful and super accommodating, especially with how messy my booking got coming from Booking.com. But a quick chat with staff and they sorted it all out for me and it was so easy. Loved that you get a door code and not a keycard. Loved the food and the prices. Loved the atmosphere and the whole place just felt safe and clean, which mattered a lot as i was traveling solo.

NetherlandsThere aren't many amenities. There is a bar, but it's a open to the public bar where you get seated. I missed a common room where you can just chill without ordering a drink.
The beds are great. With 2 usb charger ports, a light, a shelf. Everything you need.
