Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomQuite a small shared toilet/bathroom area, although I wouldn't have expected much more, and not a big a issue really

JapanGuests from the nice pub next door sometimes fight in the street in the middle of the night 🥺.
The beds were larger and more comfortable than expected and the shower room was clean. Conveniently located wherever you want to go.

FranceThe codes on the dorm lockers could do with having their volume adjusted (way too loud) and the water doesn't flow out of the showers quickly enough, leading to sock gunk and hair accumulating on the shower tray for the next guest (can't be rinsed because the shower heads are the fixed overhead type). One thing I would suggest, for the safety of guests and property, is staff may want to be more careful with regards to disclosing guests' codes in the presence of other guests. My own code was repeated back to me within earshot of another guest when I had a problem with it, and I heard the code of another guest being repeated back to her when she was clearly trying to be cautious by.showing it to staff on a piece of paper (I was standing right behind)...
Location was excellent. Just off Rose Street within a 5-10 minute walk of Princes Street and the Station, with easy access to the historical part of Edinburgh. Facilities were excellent with individual coded lockers in the dorms and appropriate ambient lighting so you can see without waking everyone up. Staff were friendly and efficient, even out of hours using the dedicated line (witnessed another guest calling it because she couldn't find the confirmation e-mail and they sorted her problem)

United KingdomObviously, the rooms are a bit noisy when people move around (but I survived). Ambiant lighting and sounds makes it hard to sleep late in the morning. There is only on toilet per floor. Comfort level for the bed is just okay.
Located in New Town (a UNESCO site shared with Old Town), the pod hotel is surrounded by a vast choice of restaurants and bars (I recommend The Chippy by Spencer). Located 15 min walk from the center of Old Town. The staff was super helpful, the rooms were clean. The lockers are easy to used and access (you use a provided code). Self checkin was easy.

AustriaThe room was quite hot but having windows open means quite a bit of noise coming from the street. The buttons to get in the room is very loud and disturbs others, as well as the pin to the lockers so if you're very sensitive you'll need some ear plugs (which they provide).
Great location close to the train station. The hostel itself was pretty clean, floors could use a mop but with people going in and out I understand that's hard to maintain. Check-in was easy and nice to have free luggage storage.

GreeceThe room was on the 3rd-4th floor so keep in mind that you will have to climb 3-4 flights of stairs every time to get into your room. It was not a huge problem though!
Nice spacious room with big glass windows and a cute balcony. The staff was very friendly and the experience overall was very good.

United KingdomAlthough it was advertised stairs only to the apartment, it did not state that there were 67!! In case of a fire, having a disability, we would have been very concerned about getting down them in time. It also advertised city and landmark views but this was only evident in the picture which covered the corridor wall. The duvet just covered the mattress so there was no overhang to cover two people. Finally, there was no dishcloth or tea towel (although there was a good supply of paper towels) and, more importantly, no oven gloves to handle items from the oven.
The location was good as it was in easy walking district of Princes Street. The Penthouse Apartment was clean apart from dust on top of microwave and food particles in toaster (not just crumbs). It had almost everything we needed in the kitchenette and the bed was comfortable. The toilet/shower room was a reasonable size and toiletries were provided. The apartment served us well for a single night but would not have wanted to stay longer.

United KingdomThere was one toilet between 12 beds, not great. I left my bag in the hostel ahead of my check-in time. I was amazed at how very insecure the storage was. - the security code was written on the outside of the storage cupboard. There was no space inside, so, what the heck? I left it next to the cupboard, because there was no more security to keeping it inside the cupboard, even if there had been room! all was well.

Canada- windows are facing the street where bars unload delivery trucks in the morning. It is extremely noisy starting from 6-7am; - no elevator; - the provided entrance code doesn't seem to work for anyone who checks in, the staff was fixing it for everyone; - individual lockers use an electronic code instead of padlocks. If something goes wrong you wouldn't be able to get your belongings out easily, as there is no staff on site; - in general it feels like this hostel was designed by a person who has never stayed in hostels. The toilet and shower cabins is one room for all genders, which is quite awkward for everyone. Not to mention the toilet is behind a tiny door with large gaps, and right next to the sinks; - "pods" are more like coffins. You most likely will suffocate inside if you leave the curtain closed.

United KingdomThere was no physical human receptionist but they had 24/7 chat/WhatsApp access to a virtual receptionist if I had any questions or concerns - so not a big deal really.
Excellent location, next to Princes street, within walking distance to train station and easy access to multiple bust stops. Comfy bed, spacious pod and room was well-ventilated. I liked the fully self-check in process and use of keypad entry into the hostel as well as well-sized locker in then room itself. Pleasantly surprised by the free towel included as part of the pod. Overall great spot for short stay in Edinburgh, economical and comfortable.

New ZealandIf you're unlucky like me and get the last shower, there won't be any hot water left during/after peak hours of use
CODE pods are a super comfortable hostel chain in Edinburgh. I've stayed both at the court and the loft... Personally preferred the location, activities and bathrooms at the Court, however if you value having a kitchen/lounge area then the loft is for you! The pods in each are the same, however the rooms at the loft are much smaller.
