How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis was absolutely beautiful. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and shown all around. I was very worried as it is totally of grid, but I was amazed . The hut is very well furnished, and the fire keeps it really warm. The views were outstanding the bonus of an outdoor fire pit with 2 chairs we sat and watched the sun go down with the fire pit alight and a glass of wine in hand it was so peaceful that all you could hear were the birds singing and the lamb. If you are looking for a quiet place to totally regenerate, this is the place to go.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and embraced everything we offer. We’d love to see you again some day soon.

Verified reviewThe property suited me because I wanted to feel like I was out in the wild moors & mountains of Scotland with no-one around me.
Thank you so much. This is what we are aiming for; a lovely hideaway and a place to recharge. Thank you again for being a lovely and appreciative guest.

Verified reviewLovely location. Everything provided. The sort of place thta would be better in the summer as the facilities are spread out, like real camping. But a lovely cosy hut to retreat to and the wood stove is excellent.
Thank you so much for your comments. Lovely to meet you.

Verified reviewThe shepherds hut was so cosy and beautiful. The setting was lovely. A proper wee escape in nature. Anna (and the dogs & chickens) was so welcoming. The welcome gifts were a real treat. The experience of the compostable toilet was a real adventure!! Loved the head torch to find my way back to the hut.
It was lovely to meet you. Thank you for being such a lovely guest. 💚🏴🤗

Verified reviewLocation was excellent, peaceful, sensational views, loved the bird life and wood fire.
Description was misleading. Muddy paths connected the sunroom to the hut. There is no private bathroom, shower facilities comprise rudimentary outdoor (cold water) shower set up in vege patch without protection from elements and toilet is a compost toilet. Both of these fixtures are several metres from hut, a bit daunting to find in darkness. Additional toilet is a chamber pot under the bed. Sunroom kitchen area very chilly. Probably would have been happy for one night for the experience.
Dear David, Thank you for your feed back. What a shame you didn’t have the experience you had hoped for. Maybe you didn’t see all the photos on the web site, clearly showing the getting back to nature, eco and rustic nature we embrace? Or maybe you didn’t read the detailed message I sent when you booked highlighting the nature of our facilities? It is a shame as you seemed so enthusiastic about everything when you were here. Especially when you gave us a parting gift as a thank you for a lovely stay. It obviously wasn’t for you but thank goodness that it is for the many, many of our customers who have left us 10/10 reviews. Best wishes from us and we hope you enjoy your onward journey. Anna & Steve

Verified reviewWhat a wonderful place to stay, this was definitely the best accommodation we stayed at after 9 days of Scotland. We enjoyed the view, the cosiness and atmosphere, and the great hospitality. Anne was an amazing host, she was willing to check for us our self-picked Chantarelles from the afternoon and shared with us some herbs and veggies from her garden to complete our dinner cooking. The sunroom was gorgeous with solid cooking facilities. Everything was very authentic. Cast-iron pots and pans, firewood heater, selfmade tea towels. Most of all the attention of detail really finished off the experience. The hut was beautifully made and Anne arranged complimentary self made biscuits, local gin and tonic, marshmallows for roasting over the firewood heater, not even to start about the ornamental attention to detail. Even the selection of books were perfectly fitting with the setting. Would definitely stay here again given the opportunity.

Verified reviewUnique place to stay and it was just perfect and beautiful. Scenic views are breath-taking. We were meet by Anna and Steve who took us through everything and all the facilities that they have to offer and it was nice to be 'Off Grid' with no phones to hand as they were charring in the Sun Room where all the electric is and the use of the kettle. Sun Room was fully stocked with everything you need and Anna made sure there was fresh milk in the fridge. Sun Room had so much with games and information in it. The views again were spectacular from there, but we didn't really spend much time in the Sunroom as we only had a night and wanted to make full use of the Sheppard's hut. Just beautiful to be able to sit outside with a log fire burning away wrapped in blankets (plenty of blankets in the sun Room) watching the sunset with no light pollution and chickens running about outside around you. Anna even came down and spoke to us about the northern lights making an appearance and they did!! We were so lucky to see the northern lights. Lovely to wake up in the morning to birds feeding on the bird feeder. Everything is self catering so make sure that you bring breakfast with you. Anna left us some lovely little treats include Local Gin and the home made shortbread was delicious we could of just eaten that!! We are looking to re visit in a couple of years time and and see how Anna and Steve adventure is going.
Everything was just perfect, I suppose the only thing I would add maybe a bit more cutlery down at the Sheppard's hut and possible a couple of branches cut so when you look at the window you can get a clear view of the breath taking scenic views

Verified reviewThe Shepherd’s hut itself was lovely. Very comfortable especially when we lit the log burner. The views were stunning.
There was no warning about the lack of facilities. No running hot or cold water! The composter toilet was in another hut a little way off in the woods which was OK but difficult to find in the dark! BUT the so called shower was in the corner of a roofless walled vegetable plot. It consisted of a plastic bowl to stand in, a jug to fill with cold water and a piece of hosepipe. We had use of the summerhouse. This has a sink but still no hot or cold running water. If we had been warned about this fair enough but there is no mention of it in the description. Needless to say we didn’t use the shower!
Thank you for your feed back. What a shame you didn’t look at the photo of our lovely veggie garden shower in the details before you stayed. All photos clearly show the getting back to nature, eco and rustic nature we embrace. The shower tub is a recycled water tank that is certainly much bigger than a bucket, with a hand made wooden floor and I’m sure that you would have enjoyed the camping rainwater shower with powerful pressure had you tried it as many of our satisfied customers have. (See our reviews and not a hose pipe in sight!) It is a shame as you seemed so enthusiastic about everything when you were here. Best wishes from us and we hope you enjoy your onward journey.

Verified reviewAnna and Steve really thought about everything, the place is absolutly beautiful with a stunning view over the mountains and the sea. Close to nature and cozy in once. The hut - made with love, details, very comfortable bed, sweet welcome, warm light, you can see the stars at night, very good isolation. The „bathroom“ - it was very interesting to use the compost toilet, its super easy, like using a „normal“ toilet but better for the environment. As someone who likes it warm I was absolutely fine using the outdoorshower. I liked it alot. The sun room- absolutely beautiful, with everything you need to cook and relax. We didnt use the outdoors but the fireplace has a nice view and comfy chairs.
We enjoyed it all.
