How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewRob and Vanessa, the hosts of this elegant villa, treated us like royalty. Not because they're from England, but because they sincerely care about their guests. The property is simply beautiful. The breakfast was delicious and was served in a cozy dining room, with a log fireplace adding warmth to the environment. The French breads, cheeses, fruits, poached eggs and cold cuts were fresh and tasty. The Emi suite, where we stayed, was spacious and comfortable - especially the large bed and separate sitting room. What more could one hope for? We will certainly be back!
The location requires one to have a car, which we had. It's just a bit too far to walk to the near by villages of Sainte Foy Le Grande and Port Sainte Foy et Ponchapt. That said, the elegance and comfort of the Manoir du Bois Mignon more than compensated for the 5 minute drive into town.
Thanks so much for your lovely review and kind words! We really enjoyed having you both here to stay and would love to see you again next time you are in the area. Best wishes to you both, Rob & Vanessa

Verified reviewLocation was good and easy to explore nearby area. Owners were able to recommend some good place to visit and to dine at. Their dog Rosie was adorable.
Breakfast was basic and not as good as pictures led us to believe. Owners both have other jobs so we felt that they were not able to maintain the property to the standard we expected as property was at the higher price range. No hangers in the wardrobe for our clothes, pool area and loungers were not clean, host was not able to provide poached eggs for breakfast on two days as his wife had gone to work and he was unable to cook them! We were asked if we wanted a meal prepared for us on our arrival as we were quite late arriving, we thought this was a thoughtful gesture until we received the bill on departure and felt that we were overcharged for a very cheap basic meal.
Wow! We are shocked and disappointed at this score and the review left by these guests. I will deal with their specific points later but for the record, PLEASE PLEASE read our other reviews as we feel that this review is in no way representative of the guest experience we offer at Le Manoir du Bois Mignon . Putting their score into context, of the hundreds of guests we have welcomed over the past 5 years, this is by FAR the lowest we have ever received, the vast majority being either 9 or 10. Indeed you will see we have been given 2 scores of 10/10 in the past few days alone. For these guests, this was their first ever visit to France and maybe do not understand the concept of a continental breakfast. Our historic review score for breakfast is 10/10 across 113 reviews. As well as fresh bread and pastries we offer, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fruit juices, a choice of cereals, jam ,honey, Greek and fruit yogurts, selection of cheeses, charcuterie and fresh fruit. We also offer eggs, any style and omelettes all cooked to order. Given this, I am at a loss to understand how this can be described as 'basic!' Regarding the comment about our other jobs leading to poor maintenance of the property, I will again refer to our historic scores for cleanliness at 9.7/10 and comfort at 9.6/10. It should also be remembered that this is is a 260 year old historic Manoir full of charm and original features. Perhaps in future these guests would prefer a modern hotel instead? The comment regarding there being no hangers in the wardrobe is correct. The previous occupants of the room took them and our cleaning staff did not notice that they were missing. We apologise but fail to understand why the guests did not just ask us for some hangers, we have plenty... It then seems very 'petty' for them to complain about this post-stay. With regard to the pool area and loungers not being clean, this needs to be considered in the context of the torrential overnight rain we experienced several times during their stay. The pool is surrounded by trees, so some of the leaves invariably ended up on the loungers and in the pool. Added to this, the lounger cushions also got wet. As a matter of procedure, the pool is cleaned with an automatic robot, chemical levels are checked every day and sun loungers and side tables wiped clean. However, with extreme weather such as experienced this particular week does make keeping things perfect 24/7 very difficult. Again, I refer to our historic review score for our pool across 113 reviews which is 10/10. Lastly, I refer to the comment about us 'overcharging for a very cheap, basic meal when the guest received their 'bill on departure.' We feel this comment is disingenuous. In advance of their arrival we agreed the precise menu (having given them several choices) and quoted the price, which they accepted in writing on WhatsApp. The food was 'auberge' style home cooked food, including French staple of onion and cheese tart which is always popular with guests. Lastly, we would like to point out that we not only recommended places to visit, but also booked these for the guests and on one occasion, drove them to and from the restaurant . We also provided drinks by the pool, serviced their room every day and generally tried our hardest to make their stay enjoyable despite the poor weather.

Verified reviewWe loved everything about this hotel! Not only was it a beautiful place, with lovely gardens, a pool area and super comfy rooms and big beds, Rob and Vanessa were also the greatest hosts - so genuine, so warm and welcoming and giving us excellent recommendations in the local area. If you want to explore Bordeaux, Saint Emilion and Bergerac then this is perfectly located to drive to all three. Rob and Vanessa also have great recommendations for markets and restaurants nearby that are well worth a visit.
We loved every aspect.

Verified reviewBreakfast was fine pretty much what I expect for a hotel in France . The hotel has a very relaxed feel and our hosts were extremely accommodating . Nothing was too much trouble . The beds are comfortable and the shower was efficient everything we want from a hotel stay .
There was a limited selection of fruit for breakfast but not a huge problem because we always have our own supply ! We would have liked a fridge in our room just to keep our fruit and water cool . The mosquitoes are a nuisance so visitors need to have a good supply of sprays and anti histamine creams .

Verified reviewThe British couple who runs the place is lovely, rooms are spacious and breakfast was good.
We had to ask to make up our rooms, and they made us feel uncomfortable asking this. Also when complaining that we ran out of shampoo, he made a stupid joke about the long hair that should be washed. Another issue was with the price of the dinner. In the email before the arrival he mentioned dinner costs 40 euro, but he charged 50 since we ordered duck instead of chicken. He should have told us this beforehand.
Wow, this is the worst review we’ve ever received! We are very upset and we totally disagree with the negative comments made. Before taking any notice of these we would urge potential guests read our other reviews which we feel are more accurate and better portray what guests can expect at Le Manoir du Bois Mignon. To address the specific points made by Mr Klein (who for the record in his review rated staff as 10/10) when the party of 5 first arrived, we asked them the first morning if they wanted their rooms cleaning as we always do. The reason for this is that post COVID we always ask before entering a guests room. That morning, all 5 in the party said they didn’t want us to clean their rooms that day so Vanessa said to let us know ie ask us in the morning if they would like us to clean their rooms and that we are always more than happy to do this. Saying we made them feel uncomfortable asking after we clearly said all they needed to do was ask is their problem, not ours. With regard to Rob’s ‘stupid joke’ this was a lighthearted throw away comment based on the fact that all 3 ladies in the party had very long hair, nothing more, nothing less and to chastise me for this in public is quite simply unkind. In terms of the Table d’hotes supplement for duck, we offered them at least 5 main courses each of which was met with a blunt ‘no!’ They insisted we prepare duck and we sourced some very large duck breasts at significant cost to us. Perhaps, with hindsight we should have warned the guests there would be a supplement for duck so for this we apologise. Throughout the guests stay, as we do with all our guests, we did absolutely everything in our power to ensure they had everything they wanted, including cooking 2 nights for them ( they highly praised Vanessa’s cooking which is not even mentioned in their review)booking local restaurants and canoeing and also storing their wine in our fridges with no corkage. To summarise our thoughts, in several years of successfully running our business and receiving exemplary reviews, this party were the first to make us feel like ‘staff’ in our own home, perhaps in future these guests should consider a more anonymous hotel rather than a family run B&B

Verified reviewAmazing stay. The chateau is absolutely perfect and has an amazing home from home feel. It’s a great base to explore the Dordogne with lots of lovely local restaurants and vineyards nearby. The pool and gardens are lovely and relaxing - pictures don’t do it justice - and there is plenty to do at the house for everybody. Rob & Nessa strike a perfect balance of providing the local know-how and extremely friendly approach while allowing you to enjoy the place like it is your own. Couldn’t recommend enough if you want a relaxing escape!
