Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing to suggest, everything was lovely.
We stayed for one night at La Chancellerie, located in the quaint village of Huisme. The property itself is a stunning manor: an impeccably maintained old chancellery house surrounded by a beautiful courtyard, well-kept garden, complete with a pool (though we didn’t get a chance to use it). We were a party of five, staying in two different rooms, each charming and thoughtfully decorated with lovely antique touches and furniture. The rooms were warm, welcoming, and very well-kept— ideal after a long day of travel. Despite our late arrival after a long drive from Calais, Bertrand and Claire, the lovely hosts, were incredibly accommodating. Since it was a Wednesday night and local restaurants in Huisme were closed, in a a late phone call letting them know that we were arriving late they graciously offered to prepare dinner for us. The meal was a delight of three delicious courses , catering to our mixed dietary preferences (including a vegetarian). Accompanied by an array of local wines and cheeses, it was the quintessential French dining experience—well-cooked, flavorsome, and memorable. The next morning, breakfast was equally delightful, including the best croissants in France, an award-winning treat, which truly lived up to the hype! Traveling with our two sons and a girlfriend, it was a wonderful introduction for them to see this side of France. Bertrand and Claire were not only warm and welcoming but also very knowledgeable about the history of the Chancellery (ask about apricots and prunes!), its restoration and suggested some scenic routes for the remainder of our journey to southern France. All in all, La Chancellerie was a true pleasure to stay at—a perfect start to our trip in France, offering calm, sophistication, and excellent hospitality. We thoroughly recommend it!

PortugalBy mistake, we arrived a day earlier, and there were no rooms available to accommodate us. But the hosts were so friendly and attentive to us. They gave us two rooms of the private part of the house. In other words, they treated us as their family members. We are ordinary travelers, and we even cannot imagine such a nice relationship. But after spending a night there we can say - this is a rule for this house "to do the best what they could do to guests". On arrival and in the morning we had great nice conversations with owners, about the history of their house, history of Europe and other things.

United KingdomDelightful and very interesting location and most welcoming and helpful hosts. Kindly upgraded us as we were the only guests which was much appreciated. Our breakfasts were good quality with best quality baguettes and croissant that were impossible to resist. Our 4 course evening meals were absolutely delicious in every way with excellent wine accompanying. Our hosts Claire and Bertrand could not have been more kind and friendly and we were sorry to leave at the end of our stay. Good location for exploring several chateaux in the area and sampling the excellent wine.

United KingdomThe owners were exceptionally rude. We arrived 35 minutes before check in with our five month old baby, having had a long drive to get there, and there was no sign of how or where to check in. We called the owner, Bertrand, who said to look for his wife, Claire, in the garden. We walked around the house to find her, and, not knowing what she looked like(!), walked towards the house. She mistakenly thought we’d walked through their private accommodation, and walked up to us without saying hello or introducing herself, and instead had a go at us. Later her husband came and repeated the sentiment, neither of them giving us the chance to explain their misunderstanding that we had not been in their house!!! He was very rude to me while I was feeding our baby, which felt aggressive and confrontational. He told me “we’re going to sell this place as we’re fed up of people walking through our house”, before stropping off. We stayed for four nights and they exchanged about 4 words with us for the remainder of our stay, no advice about the area, or questions about how things were. Finally, we don’t have a key on the first night and the bell that was there to be rung if needed, was not answered. We were too intimidated by their terrible manners that we decided to sleep with the door unlocked over causing any disturbance. Quite extraordinary given we were paying guests! Other guests had similar experiences during our stay. The Cottage itself is ok, but smelt damp and the room was a little dirty. You see a lot when you’re on your hands and knees with a baby! The kitchen is not well equipped, and the china and cutlery were dirty. The outdoor area outside was ok but right next to the car park so quite a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, which did wake us up at night. The owners drive their cars in and out very quickly! As an aside, there is not enough parking for guests. This place has a good review on Sawdays which is how we found it. Turns out it’s extremely out of date.
Location is excellent for seeing around the area. The pool area was nice, if a little tired. The house is pretty. The village is good as it has a butcher, restaurant, shop and a good bakery, all within walking distance! The countryside in the area is glorious and it’s a perfect location for viewing castles and visiting wine makers. We can’t fault any of that! Shame about what we didn’t like… and it’s worth mentioning we are fairly easily pleased!!

United KingdomOver priced, out dated facilities, bedroom had conjoining door to another guest bedroom, damp smell throughout. Please note we are tolerant people but we paid for 5 nights at over €160 a night for two of us and a dog. We stayed 4 nights and left a day early. This accommodation was meant to be our holiday treat and it was not! All our other accommodation in France was €80-100 per night and was much better equipment and host were much more accommodating. When we arrived there was no reception sign so we parked up and walked around until someone came out. There was certainly no offer of ‘nothing is any trouble’ - we were simply told a list of things not to do. Bertrand tried to charge us for an extra night and was extremely arrogant when I questioned the bill, but granted his wife dealt with the situation better and amended the bill. We did not complain about the cottage at the time, it should have been cleaned properly before we arrived and I can only assume that the owners didn’t notice any of the smells as they lived there and were possibly nose blind to damp and musty stench. As soon as the door of the cottage opened the damp smell was apparent, but it’s old so we thought we can deal with the smell. But the amount of cobwebs was unbelievable as if the place hadn’t been used in months, or maybe just not cleaned properly in a long time. One day I bent down to switch on a lamp and put my face into a cobweb! We had a keep the windows open all the time because of the damp smell, the cottage and everything in it generally smelled old and musty. The facilities and applicances in the cottage were mostly old and some didn’t work. There was an ironing board but no iron, it felt like it was were the owners left all the old broken stuff from their house! There was no manual, just instructions for WiFi that’s all. Our bedroom had a conjoining door to another bedroom! Although there was a wardrobe in front of this door, we could hear the other guests yawning!
Good points for self catering at ‘le cottage’ at La Chancellerie - Grounds of main house and setting are very pretty Really nice village that’s walkable with a bistro/ bar, bakery and epicerie Interesting villages and castles nearby Some essentials supplied in the self catering cottage - shower gel, oil, salt, washing up liquid, towels, paper towels, toilet roll The bathroom was modern enough

GermanyThe annoying thing is that when booking on the website shown final price of 304 euros for two nights, but in fact you pay 321.36 with various taxes plus breakfast (not included in this price). A large number of negative aspects of the hotel. Obviously when booking you have to contact the owners directly and talk about the room, because if you are taller than 160 cm and you get a small room under the roof with slanted ceilings and lots of ceiling beams, you bump your head constantly, day and night, and walking through the room in the dark is a real quest. The toilet is behind a plywood wall, which means your partner/family can hear all the sounds you make. In addition, access to the room is only through the kitchen with a low doorway and a very steep, narrow staircase, dragging a heavy suitcase or small child up is almost unrealistic. The breakfast is standard: stale fruit, sausage, cheese, marmalade, butter, lots of bread, flakes, limited coffee and milk. It's hard to imagine how much larger rooms with normal ceilings cost if you get a room like this for that price. The price/quality ratio is disappointing.
From the outside, everything is very attractive - a beautiful garden, a swimming pool, a building like a small castle or a bourgeois house. Great location, friendly hotel owners who speak English and German (a rare and valuable quality in France, where most people working in tourism, speak only French).
