Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomDoor fault on the en-suite bathroom meant it didn’t close well, small issue which didn’t affect our stay.

United KingdomThe hotel doesn't feel 4*. The old building is really beautiful but unloved. Simple changes could make it much nicer. For example, the furniture is all very dated and cheap, like it came from an office supplier. The only decor on the walls are what look like Aztec rugs - completely out of place. And there are tacky laminated notices everywhere. I didn't spot it when booking but if you look at the first photograph of the swimming pool, it has clearly been photoshopped - presumably to hide the stain around the edge! This hotel could be really beautiful; they need to hire an interior designer.
The staff were welcoming and friendly upon arrival, and someone showed us to our room; the barman at the pool was also pleasant. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The location is perfect if you arrive/leave by train.

United KingdomRoom was quite dark and and a little oppressive. Bathroom and toilet areas felt cramped. Heavy fire doors made it difficult to move in and out of the room. Breakfast room was rather crowded.
Great location, spacious bedroom and very friendly staff. Nice garden and courtyard. Pleasant central areas.

BelgiumMinor comments: dinner menu could have been better (but obviously no problem finding excellent restaurants in Avignon), rooftop terrace was a bit noisy.
Clean, quiet, very close to Avignon Centre train station, breakfast and breakfast area, lunch and lunch area. Very beautiful building, the rooftop swimming pool and relaxation area.

AustraliaThe smokers in the dining courtyard during meals was nasty. One of the male receptionists was pretty offhand but maybe he was just having a bad day.
The room was spacious, clean and the bed very comfortable. A good selection for breakfast. Convenient for visiting attractions and public transport. Lovely to have a pool during the hot weather. Quiet location despite its proximity to attractions. Lovely to stay in an historic building with so much charm.

AustraliaCheck in was slow and we had to get our luggage to our room in a very tiny, very slow lift. The shower over the bath was terrible - no hook to hang it up high and clunky to use
A beautiful old cloister with lots of history which they could make more of. Our room was in the new part which was a slightly unusual design but was comfortable. Slightly out of the main square area but definitely walkable.

AustraliaThe air conditioner in room wasn’t powerful enough and in a poor position for cooling the room. The bathroom has no ventilation so it is very hot and you need to keep door closed as it heats the bedroom up.
Close to station. Avignon is easy to walk around so close to everything within the wall.

United KingdomThe room layout, but especially the toilet and bathroom which are separate and very small. The smallest toilet cubicle I've ever used and I am a petite size. Very uncomfortable and claustrophobic. There is a pool but it's useless if the hotel doesn't put some parasols and it's too hot to be without in 33-36 °C

United KingdomThey could do such a lot more with it. Our room was comfortable but very spartan in appearance. The rooftop pool has mainly deckchairs rather than sunbeds and is virtually lacking in shade… just a few umbrellas would have made such an improvement. And the “bar” was not really operational; although you could often get a drink in the evening via the restaurant, we were refused a nightcap at 10:27 on our last night.
Great location just 5 minutes’ walk from the railway station, just off the main shopping/eating street and an easy walk to the Palais des Papes and other attractions. As an old cloister/ monastery its thick stone walls helped to keep us cool in 33 degree heat. Historical building with an original chapel. Rooftop pool which is a rarity in such a centrally located hotel. We had dinner there on the Sunday and were very well looked after.

United KingdomThe location of the hotel is excellent, near to the station as well as restaurants and attractions. The older, historic part of the building is lovely inside and out. The rooftop terrace and pool is an added bonus. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice with both hot and cold selections. The staff were friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.
