Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe dinners at the hotel were mediocre and the chef needs to kick up his cooking skills a lot. We really needed to eat dinner at the hotel a few nights so we had hoped French cuisine there would be delicious. The pork tenderloin was dry and old. The pool wasn’t that attractive but good to be in and it was clean.
Easy access to and from Aix and highways to travel to various locations. It is way better to stay at the Novotel than in Aix or any town or city nearby if you intend to visit villages and see lavender fields.

United KingdomNothing.
All Novotels provide a comfortable overnight stay, I reckon. They're easy to find, have ample parking and a reasonable restaurant and do a good breakfast. This one ticked all those boxes. They are not the cheapest but do the job for travellers in a professional manner.

United KingdomVery nice place, the staff are friendly and helpful. The room is very comfortable, with really good view of pool and garden, and the room size is quite big as well which is out of my expectation. Kettle and tea bags are also provided in the room which is very helpful. I need an extra duvet which is provided. I was unwell on my last day of the journey and the reception is very considerate to allow me to check out a bit later and even expand it a bit longer with a good price.

SpainWhen we travel by car as a family, we often choose to stay at Novotel hotels. We appreciate their convenient locations and the fact that many of them offer electric vehicle charging stations, which is very practical for us. However, this time we experienced a situation that left us with very unpleasant feelings. We booked our stay with half board, which included breakfast and dinner. When we arrived at the restaurant for dinner, we asked the staff what was included in the half-board package. We were clearly told that we could choose one starter, one main course, and one dessert per person from the menu, and that drinks were not included and had to be paid separately. We accepted that, placed our orders accordingly, had our dinner, and paid for the drinks. The next morning, we checked out. A €150 deposit had been taken at check-in, and upon departure, we paid the city tax and were informed that the deposit would be refunded. However, later that evening, I received a message from the reception saying we had to pay an additional €128 for the dinner. I responded, asking why — as we had already paid for half board. We had followed exactly what the staff explained, ordered accordingly, and paid for the extras. It was very upsetting to be told, after checking out, that we now owed more money for a dinner that was supposedly already included. In the end, my €150 deposit was not refunded — meaning I ended up paying €150 instead of €128. This felt dishonest and very disappointing. We had trusted the staff’s explanation, acted in good faith, and now feel like we were unfairly charged. This experience has unfortunately affected our trust in the brand — and we truly hope this is not representative of Novotel’s usual standard of hospitality.

Franceservice didn’t help us with the issues in our room, such as the air conditioner that wasn’t working while it was sunny and 26°C. The service was terrible they made us carry our own food room service to the room. We had to shorten our stay due to how hot it was in the room and lack of sleep we were getting each night.
The terrace was nice, apart from that nothing really. The hotel is located near a highway which made us call an uber every time we went out because we couldn’t walk anywhere

United KingdomThe heating would not go off. We didn't sleep all night. Whatever we did with the control in the room, there was just heat coming out of the vent :-( The bedding had a plastic sheet below the sheets, which meant it felt even more hotter. We propped the window open, but that didn't help much. We didn't contact the reception about it, as we were too tired and knew we were headed out first thing in the morning. The reviews said the breakfast was amazing - but we found it pretty underwhelming. I mean, there was some variety, but definitely was a let down after the rave reviews.
The parking and the reception staff who checked us in. We had lunch in the restaurant, which was fantastic! Easy uber access to the center.
