Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe property is fairly new and and such in great condition. The dining hall is amazing and the food choices are unrivalled. Make sure you try the local delicacy- sea grapes. The gardens are absolutely beautiful. The dorm is only 4 beds which makes it perfect for family or friends and the outdoor showers are a special treat. The reef has some striking geological formations and of course the opportunity to swim with the mantas is a bonus. Ask Paul (the owner) to give you a tour of the resort and the workings behind building and running a remote island resort.

IrelandWe were very well looked after at Mai Sunset and had the most amazing experience. Our cabin was in pristine condition and had everything we needed. The food was delicious and the staff catered any requests for us. Jay brought us to his local village as well as snorkelling and answered any questions we had. I will be returning to Mai Sunset any chance I get.

ItalyIf I had to mention one small improvement, it would be to add a personal reading light for each bed in the shared dorms. That way, guests could read or get ready without needing to turn on the main light and disturb others.
We had a wonderful time at Mai Sunset Island Resort. The location is absolutely stunning – the views of the ocean at sunset are truly unforgettable. The resort has a relaxed, laid-back vibe and is perfect if you're looking to disconnect and enjoy nature. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always smiling and ready to help with anything we needed. The meals were simple but delicious, and we loved the communal dining experience – it was a great way to meet other travelers. We did a couple of excursions, including snorkeling with Mantas and a visit to the local village, and everything was well organized. The beach in front of the resort is beautiful and great for swimming or just relaxing with a book. If you're looking for a peaceful escape in a breathtaking location, Mai Sunset is definitely worth it. We'd love to come back someday!

AustraliaThe only minor point was the lack of air con in the shared dorms however the island is cool at night but I found it hard to sleep (I prefer to sleep at 19 degrees).
Loved the location, how peaceful and serene it was, you could snorkel right of the beach, the staff were so hospitable, warm, and friendly. They would go out of their way to help ensure you had a wonderful stay. The food and meal plan was excellent as well with all food so fresh!

New ZealandA lot of fried food options, not very versatile. Limited offer of activities.
Where to start? If you are looking for tranquility, fun, relaxation, look no further! We were very few guests at the time and it was sooo peaceful. It's the perfect place to unplug and find yourself. The facilities are outstanding, the place beautifully manicured and landscaped, and the staff is amazing (special shout out to Jay). We went swimming with Mantas here and it was just mindblowing! Thanks to the flexibility and local knowledge of the staff, it was the BEST experience seeing the Mantas do summersaults and swim just under the water's surface.

IrelandThe wifi went with the rain which was out of their hands but if you need internet for work could be an issue. Only made the experience more relaxing for me though. Room for improvement with the food. Shower pressure not great.
A gorgeous little resort. The most relaxed i've ever felt. The dorm room cottages were absolutely beautiful. Only 4 to a room. Amazing outdoor shower. Shower under the stars. The staff made me feel so welcome and at home. I slept wonderfully. Jay brought us to some amazing Snorkelling spots. The cava ceremony with Elenoa was beautiful. Stunning sunsets.

NetherlandsUnfortenately, I had a food poisoning on my last day, but the staff looked after me and gave me discount which I appreciate. I really liked the food though, especially the sandwiches for lunch. Me and 2 other guests touched the coral on a snorkeling trip, which is painful :( maybe the staff can decide more careful where they let guests snorkel.
Very clean bedroom and bathroom. Everything is new, so it looks very luxury. The bathroom is in the bedroom, which is great. Very big shower. My highlight was snorkeling with the mantaray. Only 3 people on the boat and we could stay as long as we wanted. The staff is amazing, they all now your name. Every afternoon playing volleybal with staff and guests, I had a great time here.

United StatesPizza wasn't great, but who cares! We can get that at home.
We loved waking up to the view of the ocean.. We had some wonderful snorkeling trips with our boatman Nimi! We especially enjoyed the day he took us all the way around the island and we saw the remains of a WW2 plane in a lagoon! We enjoyed sampling the local food on the resort menu such as coconut rolls and sea grape salad! Thanks to Paul and staff for a wonderful stay!

Czech RepublicI missed some hanging lines for swimsuit etc., and there could be self-serving coffee station for breakfast and lunch. But these are tiny things, my stay was very comfortable.
The people working here were very kind and offered me many options for activities, even though there weren't many people when I stayed. The rooms are beautiful - even the dorm rooms (4 people) have private bathrooms with an outdoor shower <3 all was kept pristine clean. The food was all delicious, especially the salad with the sea grapes! And there are many meal options to choose from for all three meals of the day, including many traditional dishes. There is a cool walk up the hill for a view of the island.

AustraliaThe wifi was down during our visit - out of the resort's hands. As I needed contact with home, I was fortunate to have bought a Vodafone SIM and there was one spot on the beach where I could get a connection. Worth considering getting a SIM if contact is important.
We loved everything - such a well designed, solar powered, and very comfortable resort, amongst lovely gardens, in a beautiful location. Comfy beds, ceiling fans and clean, modern outdoor bathrooms. The staff are amazing - incredibly friendly, helpful and respectful. Great snorkelling and lovely food - mostly western with several Fijian choices at each meal.

United KingdomThe ONLY thing I can think of was that phone service at the resort isn't great and whilst I was there the wifi was down, but actually this wasn't too much of an issue for me at all and it was nice to switch off
The loveliest staff and the most amazing resort vibes. Not like a regular resort and I mean that in the best way possible - not crazy busy, and plenty of spaces to relax and unwind. Activities are super chill - we would be asked in the morning what we wanted to do and it was arranged accordingly, rather than a strict schedule of if you want to do this then it's at this time. Rooms are stunning and even the dorm room had an en suite and outdoor shower which was a treat! Meals are great and I enjoyed that we all ate together at one big table, it was nice for someone like me who was travelling alone. Had some kava on the first night which was a great bonding activity for the group. Cannot recommend this place enough and if I'm ever lucky enough to come back to Fiji I will be paying it another visit ❤️

GermanyThis beautiful little resort is something truly special! We hope it stays that way, even as it becomes more well-known. The staff all come from the nearby village and are incredibly welcoming. You shouldn't expect great luxury, but you'll find everything you need: comfortable beds, nice showers, good food, and both free and paid (not too expensive) activities. We really enjoyed playing volleyball every day, for example. The Fiji time we experience here means the most relaxing vacation ever. You rarely find such peace and quiet. We really hope to be able to come back one day!

CanadaWe had the most incredible stay at Mai Sunset Island Resort in Fiji, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! From the moment we arrived, the warm hospitality of the staff made us feel like family. The resort is a true paradise, nestled on a pristine beach with swaying palms and crystal-clear waters that seem to glow at sunset—hence the name, and it absolutely lives up to it! Our bure was a perfect blend of traditional Fijian charm and modern comfort, with a cozy bed, stunning ocean views, and an outdoor shower that felt like a little slice of luxury under the stars. The food was a highlight—fresh, local ingredients crafted into delicious meals, with the coconut ice cream being an unforgettable treat. The compulsory meal plan was worth every penny, offering a variety of dishes that showcased Fijian flavors. The activities were endless and so much fun—snorkeling over vibrant reefs, kayaking along the shore, trips to the local village or just lazy stroll along the beach. The staff went above and beyond to ensure every experience was seamless, always with a smile(thank you Male, Nivi, Ave, Vinie, Rauga). What truly sets Mai Sunset apart is its serene, intimate vibe. It’s not overcrowded, so you feel like you’re in your own private oasis. The connection to Fijian culture was also special—learning about local traditions and seeing the care put into every detail made the stay meaningful. If you’re looking for a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and create memories that last a lifetime, Mai Sunset Island Resort is pure perfection. I’m already dreaming of my next visit!

IrelandNeed a few more lounge chairs for all the guests and some cushions. Maybe even make them in wood like rest of property as it’s such a good finish.
The cleanliness is amazing. The property is new and the craftsmanship was excellent in the buildings and furniture. The outdoor showers at the back of each bure were amazing and the mattress was really good quality. The vibe was chill and I felt like I could properly switch off and relax. The view was stunning, the coral was great for swimming. Even got to gather some sea grapes with the locals.

United KingdomThere is no air-conditioning in the rooms, which could be an issue if you are staying during the warmer season. I was only there two nights so it was OK. Otherwise, they do have a ceiling fan and grids on the windows (so you can sleep with the windows open). The WiFi is only available in the bar area. It will either force you to have a digital detox if you want to stay in your room or to stay in the main area (which could be a good thing to meet other guests.) Not a deal breaker, but some of the snorkelling equipment could have been a bit cleaner. There will be stuff to use to snorkel, but you will have to be selective. This is something they could easily improve on.
Really nice beach, clean spacious rooms, everything was brand new. Overall, it is very good value for money.
