Desta, the owner of this guesthouse, is an exceptional person who made us feel at home from the very beginning. He organized tours across Ethiopia and invited us to a formal dinner, where we participated in a traditional coffee ceremony – an unforgettable experience. The guesthouse is extremely clean, quiet, and cozy, with Wi-Fi quality dependent on local internet providers in Ethiopia.

Amazing hotel - really interesting architecture and one of the nicest rooms we had in the whole of Ethiopia, beautiful view from the room and the staff were so kind and helpful, they made us an Ethiopian Christmas dinner for free as an act of kindness! Great laundry service too!

By chance I discovered Hidmo in February 2023 and returned in February 2025. Yes the view is fabulous; rooms and beds are very confortable; cuisine is delicious; service is exceptional; great location... Destaw, Kidist, their children plus Lemlem, Ababech, Tesfa and Chiatu are all very helpful, knowlegeable, kind and professional. The garden and balcony are a wonderful safe Haven from the hustle and bustle of the City. Highly recommended. I shall return perhaps before the end of 2025.

It's a little far from the airport but you're put on time in a shared shuttle that passes through the city to pick up/drop off other people. 200 ETB only. However, the accommodation itself is well located in the centre.

Very cozy place and warm welcome by Desta and his family. I received a powerbank and wifi hotspot throughout my stay. The breakfasts and dinners are simple yet delicious. Very relaxed atmosphere and would definitely want to come back.

I can’t think of anything

I liked the building inspired by the traditional round thatched hut, every room with balcony and great views. Good bathroom en suite and HOT water. Breakfast was generous, with fresh papaya smoothie, French toast with local honey, ginger tea, two bananas! I liked the prompt and smiling service and cheerful family atmosphere.

All has simply exceeded my expectations. The location, hotel rooms, service, food and New Year party! Prompt communication before the trip, organisation of the tour with attention to detail. The owner, Desta, was my guide during my stay and he was knowledgable, with good English and I had simply great time. Excellent price as well. I cannot recommend more this place for your stay and tour in Lalibella.

Nothing much we didnt like about the place per se. Clarify with accom whether there is pick up from airport. Many guides / touts at the airport may claim to be associated with the accom. One such person followed us on public transport, all the way to the accom. Turns out owner knows the person but explanation provided was...??. Unpleasant experience associated with the accom and vendor.

Owner and family are friendly and knowledgeable; they went to check on us after dark, during curfew times. The can provide home cooked food, in expensive and better than some restaurants. Place is a 10+min walk off the main road, tucked away for privacy and some views

Everything was more than we could have expected. The owner and his family as well as his co-workers were so friendly, helpful and easy going. The guesthouse is new, clean, comfortable and well located. Rooms are specious with great views. Breakfast simple but always delicious. One of the best places we have ever stayed in.

We could not have chosen a better place to stay, it fitted us like a glove.

The friendliness and hearts to help, to share, give info, to guide, we’re incredible. The property is extremely well situated, we loved the magnificent view, the architecture, felt like we stayed in a traditional home, but modern, included all we needed. We love the family, the owners, that also were there for us in every respect. The breakfast, was healthy, good and more than enough! We enjoyed the coffees and teas in between, as well as all the fruit, honey, bread, provided in between. The staff were also very helpful, friendly, caring.

View, clean rooms, great location. Super host

The host Desta went out of his way to make us as comfort as possible. Lalibela was blackout during our stay, Desta used backup generator to insure we had hot water for shower and fresh juice in the breakfast . The hotel itself sit in a perfect location, clean & stylish rooms, amazing view from balcony. 5 minutes short walk to town center, 10 minutes to churches. Desta is very knowledgeable & kind person, he knows everything about Lalibela & Ethiopia. we spent amazing time in hotel”s beautiful garden with him and his lovely family . All staffs are very helpful and always with smile. Highly recommended if you will visit beautiful Lalibela, stay here, you will not regret

Everything was perfect

Excellent location Beautifully decorated bedrooms with balcony overlooking Lalibela village Great hangout area to just sit and relaxing. Comfortable beds and pillows Excellent freshly cooked breakfast with different juice of the day !! The owner - Destau and family are very kind and hospitable- they organised all the local tours with guides. We rang Destau from the airport and he very quickly organised the local taxi pickup Nothing was too much trouble for the family to sort out for us

Fyi the entrance fees for the 11 rock-hewn churches is now 100usd!!!!!!

Room and bathroom was clean, nice view, cheap airport transfer, breakfast is ok. Local guide working for the hotel did a good job, but he asked 40eur for guiding you through the churches.

At the airport pick up there was a guy waiting for me without an order in advantage. I wanted to take the Shared Taxi, he wanted to take me alone and be my tour guide for the churches of Lalibela. I did not wish for that. He told the hotel staff that I will arrive in town by shared taxi so another guy waited at the main square for me to take my luggage. I didn't have any luggage so he just followed me around all the way through the churches and demanded money in the end. The owner was informed about thei activity and informed them about my whereabout. I do not appreciate such a behavior and would not recommend to stay here without clear communication in advance.

The architecture of the tower and the furniture were good. It was clean as well and there were 2 bottles of water prepared for my stay.

The wifi was out for 48 hours but it was nothing to with the property, the whole town was down.

We ate dinner at the ' restaurant' there one night. It was very expensive, so do a price check first. We didn't. Likewise with the laundry!

Location a short walk to the first cluster of churches. Good views and the rooms we a nice unique design. We had a few issues with the WiFi and the power but the staff sorted these out quickly for us.
