How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe really enjoyed our stay here. Our host were very kind and helpful with everything. Mesfin helped us to to go to the bank and gave us all the instructions we needed, and Asni cooked delicious breakfast for us everyday (eggs and pancake, which can be a rest if you are tired of injeera). The place is very calm and silent, qith the sounds of the birds...
The location is a bit away of most things, but you can always get a tuktuk. We managed to walk to the churches (around 15min).

Verified reviewA small, intimate guesthouse located in a quiet, peaceful area. A few minutes' walk to Lalibela's main attractions. The staff was exceptionally friendly and nice. Kibret and her brother invited us to a traditional Timkat dinner. There was a warm, homely atmosphere there. We were supported in visiting Lalibela by Mesfen. He cooperates with the guesthouse and is able to organize the tourists' stay very well.
Everything was as expected and even better.

Verified reviewFantastic! The owner Birtukal, was a lovely host. She made a great breakfast for me 3 days in a row and treated me to a coffee ceremony as well. The hotel also arranged for an airport shuttle both times. Through the hotel I was also able to arrange a guide for the churches and trekking. Both guides they arranged for me were fantastic. Great value. Highly recommend!

Verified reviewEveryone coming to Lalibela should stay in this delightful family run guesthouse. Value for money is second to none. We loved our time here. Rooms and facilities are spotlessly clean, hot water in shower, and very comfortable beds. Breakfast is delicious and you'll likely also get treated to a traditional coffee ceremony. Our host Asinka is a generous person and by the end of our trip felt more like a friend. About a 15min walk to see the churches. We followed their recommendation for guide of the churches and didn't regret it ($30 USD). Airport transfers went smoothly. We didn't do any hiking but they are able to help with that if you'd like to go on a hike. FYI : the cost of ticket to see the churches is now $100USD/ person and there has been no internet in this region for going on 3 months

Verified reviewThe staff was helpful and arranged my pickup from the airport and was very kind and courteous. The room was also very good for the money I paid. Breakfast and dinner were great.
Normally the staff of hotels know the prices of buses of major routes. One of the staff members took me to the bus stop to buy a bus ticket where I was charged double the amount for the bus which I only realised later. This happened while the staff member was present and he didn't bother negotiating the right rate. I normally expect staff to know such basic details and help their guests avoid getting scammed.

Verified reviewBirtukan and Mesfen were very welcoming. Without asking anything, Mesfen came to pick us up at the bus station, and Birtukan offered us a coffee and a the. During our whole stay, Birtukan, her sister and Mesfen were always here to maje sure everything was okay. Mesfen provides us a nice guide (Mule) to take us through the churches complex and he arranged our departure with a bus. The last evening Birtukan greated us with a nice farewell dinner. The room is big and very clean. Toilets and bathroom are very clean too. The garden is very enjoyable and the location of the guest house is perfect, very close to the churches and the heart of the city.
Nothing. Everything is enjoyable about Mini Libela Guesthouse.

Verified reviewThe room was clean and cosy. When we came to Lalibela the taxi was waiting for us on airport, even if we didn't order it before. Everything was organised perfectly. The hosts were really nice and helpful. Toilet also was clean, WiFi was fast. Good place for two days stay.
Sometimes there were no electricity but probably it was bigger problem, not the hotel fault.

Verified reviewI had a really good time staying at Mini Lalibela Guesthouse. Although in the map it is not located in the city center, it is practically close to all the important places where you can arrive in 10-15 minutes by foot: city center, churches and bus station. The girls who take care of the place always make sure you have a pleasant stay with clean room/bathroom and nice breakfast (on the last day they even invited me a dinner). As well as a safe stay with a security guard at night. Also, I did a church-guided tour with a very decent and informative guide named, Mule. I appreciate his knowledge and manners a lot which made my visit to Lalibela very pleasantly memorable. Other excursions like hiking (I did with Gashaw, a joyful mountain guide) are also possible to do through the organization of the guesthouse or Mesfin, who will help you out with anything.
The light in the shared shower room was not working very well when I was there.
