How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Speaking English by the staff will be an advantage.
Friendly and responsive staff. Clean place with good location - 5 minutes walking from Getafe Centro. Good breakfast arranged at a near-by coffee bar. Definitely would visit again.

The room was fairly small and the walls to the neighbouring rooms were a bit thin.
The location of the hotel is very close to the station with direct, cheap trains to Madrid's city center, which takes around 30 minutes. The breakfast was simple Spanish style, but not bad and also free. The staff didn't speak much English, but they were very friendly. We got a free drink on arrival.

Rooms aren’t very soundproof and there seems to be a frequent buzzing sound presumably whenever someone uses hot water

Breakfest very basic just coffee and churos or sweet

The rooms however were quite small and the bathrooms tiny: turning around in the shower virtually impossible. WLAN access was extremely lousy. The 2.4 GHz band not usable, 5GHz usable with some luck. Here it also did not help to have access points on every floor.
The staff was very helpful, polite and friendly. The rooms were clean and the beds comfy.

The shower needed maintenance as the shower head wouldn't stay in position. No fault of the hotel but the people in the next room were noisy until 4am
Parking was essential. The room was clean and the staff polite and helpful) (particularly with my rubbish Spanish)

The only downside I can think of was that the walls between the rooms were quite thin and I could hear my neighbours talking until 4am which was quite annoying but not really the hostels fault
The check in was nice, the rooms were clean, the staff were also helpful and overall it was a comfortable stay

The wifi stopped working after the first day and we couldn’t seem to connect it again.
The staff were so friendly and always greeted with a smile and were so attentive! The room was absolutely perfect for what we needed and at such a great price. If we visit Getafe again we will definitely be back at Hostal Colón!

Walls paper thin. Could hear room next door snoring. Breakfast was coffee, juice, and a choice of toast, pastry or churro. Okay but soooo much carbs.
Close to metro train. Staff were exceptional. When husband needed shower vs tub transfered to one that did.

Beds could be a bit more comfortable and one female receptionist was always grumpy (however, the other one was super friendly)
Most of the staff were friendly, and the hotel is very close to Getafe Renfe Station

There were some small signs of age. The window shutter was stuck at a middle level but there was a curtain as well so that one could control how much light went into the room. The bathroom door didnt close properly but that doesnt matter if you are travelling alone or with your partner.
The hotel definitely has a high quality. Rooms are comfy, I particularly liked the pillow compared to other hotels I stayed at in Spain. The AC is cleverly situated so that it doesnt directly blow the cold air onto the bed. Hotel is close to the bus and train stop of Getafe and there are lots of restaurants around.
