Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Hong KongNothing after i searching my head for a few minutes, for real
For the stay experience: Environment: in a non-peak month, the whole front and back yard gardens are super private and exclusive. Pool side seat under a mango tree cannot be more relaxing. Room: Luxury room with Nile view. I literally wowed when i see the view in the room for the first time. The room is spacious with living area and bedroom and closet room. Service: Marvel and Moo (sorry if i do not spell it correctly), they are great concierges. The room call is always answered immediately. The staff are always ready to help. Dinning: only tried the terrace bar. The Agatha’s high tea: you definitely should have it in the afternoon. I had it in the afternoon in June. The month is not a peak season so i can have a great private time in the Nile view seat and enjoy Agatha’s book with AC. The Agatha’s cocktail: great cocktail with gin as the base served with sandwiches and nuts. I drank it as a sundowner. That is really an enchanting experience. For the Agatha Christie’s and Winston Churchill’s suites tour: Great tour, great tour guide!

United KingdomI read and heard a lot about the Old Cataract and it was my dream to go there one day, luckily it happened this May and it was one of the most magical experiences! The hotel, its facilities and views over the Nile are spectacular, providing its guests with both timeless charm and modern comfort. Chief Concierge Tharwat was so wonderful and helpful with making arrangements for excursions, providing honest advice and checking in on us regularly. We felt so well looked after by him, it truly was excellent service that made out stay even better. We cannot wait to come back to the Old Cataract again!

United KingdomOnly one small criticism- spa and massage was paying for an hour and only being offered 50 mins. I took the 1/2 hour as better value for money. I was not disappointed. Massage was beyond expectation. Staff are the friendliest I’ve met for along time. That’s in all departments.
Building. History. Staff friendliness. Gardens. Rooms. What is there not to like. 11/10

SwitzerlandReception staff lacked friendliness and felt very corporate. They were helpful and felt the front line staff were so friendly and happy, and management seemed busy and too occupied. The main restaurant food was very bad. My father in law got sick from the cod, and the calamari was terrible. They removed the calamari from the bill and nothing was done about the overall dining experience by management at check out. Too bad for such an amazing property to lack proper F&B food quality. Disappointing.
Beautiful property, well maintained and great front line level staff. Especially the pool staff, outstanding service. Great room and 5 luxury amenities.

United KingdomThe spa could do with an upgrade given the price Shower very awkwardly installed, you basically have to squat in the bath and use the shower head as the pressure hits the opposite wall and isn't adjustable
The decor was fabulous and absolutely fulfils your Egypt fantasies The staff were very attentive and well trained The beds were absolutely out of this world Pool area great And the best view in Aswan of course!

United KingdomAvailability of all drinks on the bar menu was not always as it should have been and sometimes the prices seemed rather high.
The staff , the setting and the room were all perfect and were exactly as we had hoped. We had a lovely room with a terrace overlooking the Nile. Breakfast served in the fabulous restaurant was always a real occasion.

United KingdomWe booked a room in the old building but were upgraded (beautiful suite) but really wanted to stay in old part of hotel. We were disappointed. Also we were told approx $1750 for 3 nights when booked but when arrived at hotel they added another $500 in taxes and service charges! Have complained to booking.com - no response.
It’s completely stunning.

United KingdomNothing really - we didn't stay long enough. Also when booking be sure to confirm which of the buildings you are in - there is a new Nile Wing adjacent to the old hotel that may well be just as nice, but isn't the original historical building.
The Old Cataract Hotel is a glorious. Beautiful old building, spectacular location over the cataracts, full of history. The room facing the Nile in the old hotel was wonderful, spacious, with a beautiful veranda looking towards Elephantine Island.

AustraliaSome services and dining felt overpriced, service was occasionally slow, and crowd control was lacking - especially when a group of loud tourists disrupted dinner. For a hotel of this level, a bit more exclusivity would be nice!
The Sofitel Legend Old Cataract is pure magic. Incredible Nile views, stunning architecture, and top-notch service make it unforgettable. The mix of history and luxury is just perfect. Whether lounging by the pool or having an amazing meal at 1902, every moment here feels special. I’d go back in a heartbeat!

KuwaitThe taste and quality of the food in the entire hotel do not match the upscale experience of the hotel especially in Aswan where you don’t find variety of good restaurants. Food is mediocre at best and they should have better food and beverage management (touristic level of food noticed in breakfast, terrace or in kababgi oriental restaurant). Maintenance painting of the walls with the paint smell during January, I guess should’ve been done off season.
Great hotel with history of 125 years accommodating kings and queens in the past. Great breathtaking Nile views worth the upgrade. Staff are great in reception (Mohra) and the terrace/bar restaurant.
