How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis property offers superb views of the Nile with its own private terrace. Kafana is an extremely kind and accommodating host and the property also has a private boat to ferry people to and from the mainland pier. We did not try other meals but the breakfast we had there was great. Watching the sunset while relaxing by the Nile was definitely one of the highlands of our trip. Staying on the Elephantine Island is an experience in itself - I recommend that everyone tries it when coming to Aswan in order to experience the traditional Nubian lifestyle.
All was great - we hope we'll be back one day!
Thank you so much I appreciate that I hope to see you again

Verified reviewI absolutely loved my time at Kafana Guest House! All of the staff are attentive and friendly. They are very warm people and I was well looked after, more than I was expecting. The owner made sure I had transportation to and from the island and that I had all I needed. They coordinated airport transportation as well. The food was amazing and the portions are large. I ate all my meals in Aswan there. There wasn't any need to take a boat to go the city for food when there was high quality food there. I REALLY ate well! The guest house has a family vibe. It is calm and serene and has an amazing view. It's a great place for someone looking to unwind and relax.
There wasn't anything I didn't like.

Verified reviewIf you are prepared to miss out on the material luxuries of life and stay at Kafana Guest House you will not be disappointed. While the accommodation is basic it is spotlessly clean. The food was absolutely delicious, simple Nubian cooking that could not be faulted. Kafana, the host was very helpful, arranging taxis to everywhere we wanted to go, suggesting the best itinerary and times to avoid the crowds. Special thanks to Sultan, our taxi driver, who entertained us with jokes and general information on the long drives from Luxor and again to and from Abu Simbel. Best of all, however, was the unparalleled view from the terrace and our bedroom of the Nile river itself. The star of the show. Go and see for yourself! Many thanks and good luck with your future endeavours Kafana.

Verified reviewPeaceful and laid-back environment where one can chill. After request, excursions were arranged. Highlight was the felucca ride! This is in a non-commercial “Nubian Village.” I enjoyed a fish dinner. Also, sitting on the bank of the Nile is indescribable.
Mix-up with driver not at airport upon arrival. It was not summer so my not being able to turn on AC wasn’t a big deal. Host is laid-back so you have to ask for what you want.

Verified reviewKafanas guest house is a little slice of paradise. From the moment we booked it was a relaxing experience. Kafana picked us up on his boat directly from the cruise ship, this was all a very smooth process. His communication is excellent. The location is so beautiful in a very peaceful spot overlooking the botanical garden. It’s very easy to explore the island on foot from this guest house. The room is very comfortable with breathtaking views, good wifi and a hot shower. The food was delicious! Kafana is a beautiful man ready to share many jokes and ensure you have a great stay. We were sad to leave!

Verified reviewThe location is amazing, right next to the Nile in a particularly beautiful spot for sunsets. It is serene and welcoming. The food is home made and quite good available any time. The rooms were simple and perfect with comfortable beds, lots of outlets, hot water, and very clean. Kafana is charming! He and his staff did everything to make us comfortable and happy, and we sat comfortably on the Nike’s edge for hours. It is excellent value for the money and we stayed longer than planned. He arranged for a driver to Luxor whom we also loved.

Verified reviewWe had the most incredible stay at Kafana Guest House in Aswan! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality that made us feel like family. The host is truly exceptional—an honest, kind-hearted person who goes above and beyond to ensure his guests have the best possible experience. Unlike many places, there were no hidden fees, no commissions, and no tourist traps—just pure dedication to quality service. What truly sets Kafana apart is the host’s unwavering commitment to his guests. He personally advocated for us at every step, ensuring we got the best experiences at the best prices, whether it was arranging tours, transportation, or local experiences. His only priority was making sure we had an unforgettable time in Aswan. And the food—absolutely phenomenal! Every meal was prepared with care, using fresh, flavorful ingredients that made it some of the best food we had in Egypt. And believe me, I know. I grew up in upper Egypt. If you’re a food lover, Kafana Guest House is a hidden gem you cannot miss. If you’re looking for a place in Aswan that feels like home, with top-notch hospitality, honest recommendations, and amazing food, this is the place to stay. We left with not just wonderful memories but also a deep appreciation for the kindness and integrity of our host. Highly, highly recommend!
The shower can be a little tricky for folks not used to it. You need to squeegee after you take a shower. Lots of hot water and good water pressure however.

Verified reviewThe guest house is at the quieter side of the elephant island facing the botanical garden. Kafa and his staff made us feel at home, they took good care of us. I wish we had more time there to explore the island. Delicious rustic home cooking. We ate both breakfast and dinner there. Literally the best food we had in Egypt. We had the best mango juice and the best tagine there. Kafa communicated with us through WhatsApp a few days prior to our check in day, I cannot eat gluten and my son has nut allergy, he accommodated our dietary restrictions. If going in the winter time, I would recommend bring a hat and a scarf because sitting outside for breakfast and dinner does get chilly. There is a big heater in the room for the chilly nights, very comfortable. unforgettable experience in a real nubian house. We booked the triple room upstairs and one double downstairs, the triple room upstairs is big with million dollar view, much bigger than the downstairs double room.
There’s nothing I did not like about the guest house. However, for people with mobility issue, the stairs may be a problem, and getting in and out of the boat, . The ferry dock is at the east side of the island, the guest house is at the west side, we took the boat from the guest house on arrival and departure day because we have luggages. To get from the ferry to the guest house we had to walk across the island through a real nubian village.

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay very much and would have gladly stayed longer had a room been available. Do book in advance for more than one day if you want a rest from sightseeing. Please note that this is one of the best located accommodation in my opinion because of its Nile view on the West side of the island. (On the East you get a grand view of the city and it's skyline if that's your preference) of Elephantine Island and had just 3 rooms. This simple, pleasant accommodation has a shady covered seating area where ready meals are served. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the offer to collect us from the station and to bring us free of charge to the accommodation via their own boat. Kafana communicated with us really efficiently while we were in the train approaching Aswan which was impressive and the first time in my long history of travelling that I have received such an attentive service to my needs. I congratulate Kafana and his team on their service. You can contact him via WhatsApp and he replies quickly. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. We had the chance to learn interesting information from Wael which was interesting and he generally invited us to a local wedding..
It's difficult to find fault!

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While we appreciate constructive criticism, we feel compelled to address several inaccuracies and unjust claims in your review. Firstly, I am Kafana, the manager of the guesthouse, and I can assure you we never met in person during your stay. Referring to me and my staff with demeaning language is both disrespectful and uncalled for. Our team prides itself on professionalism and hospitality, as evidenced by our consistent 9.6/10 rating from hundreds of satisfied guests. Regarding your complaints: 1. Amenities: All rooms are stocked with essential amenities, and we ensure they meet our high standards. Claims such as “unsafe to provide shampoo” are baseless and misrepresent our commitment to guest comfort. 2. Payment: We accept card payments, and there was no issue with the machine during your stay. 3. Housekeeping: We offer daily housekeeping upon request. If there was a misunderstanding, we deeply regret it, but it’s unfair to blame us for not communicating this need. 4. Facilities: Our guesthouse is a boutique establishment, and its “family vibe” is often celebrated by guests seeking an authentic, personal experience. It’s unfortunate this did not align with your preferences. Finally, it is important to note that your request to cancel the third night without penalty was not within our policy. As a small guesthouse, such last-minute changes significantly impact us, and we consistently uphold our policies to ensure fairness to all guests. We are proud of the positive experiences we provide to the vast majority of our visitors, and while we regret that your expectations were not met, your review does not reflect the quality and care we dedicate to our work. Wishing you safe travels, Kafana Property Manager

Verified reviewOne of these special places where you feel welcome from the first second on. Kafana goes above and beyond making your stay super pleasant. The rooms are spacious and clean. Hot water and good water pressure in the shower. We booked tours and transportation with him and everything was super fair priced, well organized and flexible. Kafana managed everything. Their food is also absolutely 10/10 and eating it with the view you have from there is gonna be a highlight of your Aswan trip
Really only the shower being close to the toilet. Didn't bother us, but good to keep in mind.

Verified reviewKafana Guesthouse on Elephantine Island was a perfect place to experience the local people and their culture. It is a family fun guest house with only three rooms. They have food you can order for your meals. We had breakfast and dinner and both were delicious. One of the family memebers took us on a local walk around the area. We saw a school house, a man with a loom making pretty scarves either silk, cotton or linen. I bought a pink linen scart for $16. We aslo went to a spice shop where I bought saffron and other spices. It was like having a private guide. Kafana Guest house is lovely. You can sit outside having breakfast looking at the boats on the Nile. We highly recommend staying here. Great value, friendly and hospitable family.
Nothing. All good!
