How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewI've traveled plenty and visited many hostels. Holy Sheet might just be the best place I've ever stayed at. Mina and his team were more than welcoming upon a super late arrival (3am) and continued to impress throughout the stay. Friendly, personable, super clean facilities, beautiful accommodations, delicious included breakfast, the list goes on and on. A++, a must stay when visiting Cairo!

Verified reviewthe staff are wonderful very helpful and polite. The building is nice and historic the entrance looks shabby don't let that put you off. when you get to the rooms they are clean and tidy, very nice. the location was spot on with beautiful buildings surrounding. The best feature in the building was the elevator something out of the titanic old but surprisingly smooth in operation.
minor issues with only one lighting option in the rooms, bright! not good in the evening.(one or two side table lamps should resolve that) squeaky bathroom door.(a bit of oil will do)
Thank you, Adalie, for your lovely review! We’re so glad you enjoyed the historic charm of our building, the clean rooms, and especially our vintage elevator. It’s wonderful to know our staff made your stay pleasant. We appreciate your helpful suggestions about the lighting and the bathroom door—we’ll certainly look into them. We hope to welcome you back again soon!

Verified reviewNo scams, no funny business. Everything was straight forward and as expected. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Location is good if you want to stay in city center. The room was comfortable and AC worked decently well enough. Good value for the price. Friendly cats in the stairwell.
The curtain rings on the beds are metal on metal and very loud. They wouldn’t have to spend much to replace those with plastic. The staff also always turns off the AC but they turned it back on every time I asked them to, so not too big of a deal. Overall, very nice place.
Dear Nikolas, thank you for your kind feedback! We’re happy to hear you found our staff friendly, the location convenient, and the room comfortable. It’s wonderful that you enjoyed the overall value and even the cats in the stairwell! We appreciate your helpful comments about the curtain rings and AC—we’ll certainly take note. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future!

Verified reviewThis is an exceptional hostel ranging from dorms to private rooms. It is safe, centrally located near shops, restaurants and attractions. The water is hot, the facilities are clean and the breakfast is so good. And the folks that run it are amazing. Super helpful and friendly. It also has an awesome vibe where you will meet other travelers.

Verified reviewI’ve been coming to Cairo for the last three years, and Holy Sheet Hostel is always my go-to place to stay. The staff are incredibly friendly, the location is perfect—right in downtown and close to all the best restaurants—and it’s always clean and welcoming. Honestly, it’s the only place worth staying at in Cairo. Highly recommended!

- same breakfast every day - AC broke down few time during my stay, it freaking hot at night. - Quite hard to find the hotel especially during night time since the whole block building was cover with scaffolding and no sign from outside.

Verified reviewThe hostel is located in a nice central location. It’s clean and the rooms are overly quite comfortable so the price is overall decent.
The property is a little hard to find due to the scaffolding and construction everywhere. For a hostel I didn’t find it to be overly social, it was quite quiet. The private room needs a little TLC, the bathroom especially was a little run down.

Verified reviewThis hostel was amazing, really great location, very nice and private bathrooms (which is hard to come by in a hostel), big beds, nice balcony, lovely staff! The staff really care for you, they go above and beyond and always have a smile on their face and they are ready to help you with anything you need. Shout out to mustafa he was so kind and helpful during my stay :)
The complaint is that the curtains were so noisy no matter how quiet or gentle you may be. The curtains are metal on metal, any time someone opens the curtain it would create this horrible screeching noise that would wake everyone up. The door to the room is also very loud. The noise the curtains made was so awful and would echo the room. Really hope they can fix the curtain situation because it ruined my stay but truly everything else was perfect!
Thank you so much, Abbey, for your kind words! We're thrilled you enjoyed the location, private bathrooms, balcony, and especially the service from our team — Mustafa will be happy to hear your shoutout! We sincerely apologize for the noise from the curtains and door. We're already working on a solution to improve this. Looking forward to welcoming you again! Best regards, Holy Sheet Hostel

Verified reviewThe location is great. The hotel is on a side street that only has foot traffic so it's quieter than most places but keep in mind Cairo is a noisy place. You can go to a couple of restaurants and snack shops without crossing Cairo streets. This place is very clean by Cairo standards. When looking for accommodation a lack of basic cleanliness is a common problem up until you get to the name brand international hotel level. This place is cleaner than most, although it is still as clean as it should be as you an see from my negative points. The breakfast was lovely. The antique elevator was interesting and scary, and safer than it seems. The location is very close to the bazaar and museum of antiquities.
Part of the reason we booked was the balcony but this could not be used due to construction scaffolding. One of the balcony doors was really difficult to close, it took 2 of us and quite a bit of force. It's particularly important because we woke up to workmen sitting on the balcony outside our room. If anyone can climb up from the street level it would be nice if the balcony door were secure. The shower has no curtain and floods the entire bathroom every time you use it, including the toilet and toilet paper. No mop is provided. The door and shower flooding were already noted in other reviews so it seems like management is not proactive in reading reviews and solving small maintenance issues. The towels in our room were stained, one with what looked like blood. The rest of the hostel was very clean but things like this really give a bad impression. It was actually quite difficult to tell who was staff as the reception area doubles as a common area. The male staff were often on the couches rather than being behind the desk, if you're going to do that, you should consider uniforms, and getting off phones and acknowledging guests when they walk in. The female staff members always acknowledged us. The staff let the common area get very noisy one night (noisier than Cairo already is) and it shares a wall with the family room.
Thank you so much, Corey, for taking the time to leave such a detailed and thoughtful review. We’re really glad you enjoyed our location, cleanliness, and breakfast — and that you found the antique elevator charming! Your feedback is incredibly helpful and we truly value your honesty. We’d also like to sincerely apologize for the issues you faced. The scaffolding was due to government-led renovations on the historic building façades in Downtown Cairo — the work is now fully completed and all balconies are open again. We’ve taken note of your comments about the balcony door, the bathroom flooding, and towel quality, and we're actively working on improving these areas. Regarding the reception experience and common area noise, we’re reinforcing staff training and exploring uniform options to ensure better service and clearer staff visibility. Thanks again for your honest insights — they really help us grow. Warm regards, Holy Sheet Hostel Team

Verified reviewThe hostel was always very clean and proper. The beds were cozy and the staff always available and super friendly. The breakfast was nice and, very importantly, they provide free drinking water, which is a bless with this very dry and hot weather. The location, in downtown Cairo near the Egyptian museum, is just perfect. We highly recommend this hostel.
