How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewReally great place. It's like a living museum. Established in 1935 - I'm not sure much has changed, which is part of its charm. Staff are nice and it's clean - though dated (but with charm!). Love the rooftop bar/restaurant and rooms. Love the old pictures everywhere!
It was all great. It could do with a revamp - but then would probably lose the charm!

Verified reviewThe location is near the old museum (1 km) where we planned to visit and the grocery stores are easily accessible. In a colonial style old neighborhood where you can observe how the locals live.
Everything is old and less maintained. The room is facing the street hence it is very noisy in the night. The glass door is apparently not soundproof.

Verified reviewExcellent Location. Staff very friendly, moved me to new room when first one was very loud and very small. Moved me to a third room when a/c wasn't working (working yes, but not cooling down room) in second.
Second room a/c was not working.

Verified reviewGreat rooftop restaurant/bar. Hotel is dated but full of charm. In the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city so not quiet, but great central location. Egyptian breakfast was very good. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. This hotel won't suit everyone but if you prefer somewhere old with real character to modern luxury then its brilliant.

Verified reviewVery charming hotel with beautiful interior and architecture. Great rooftop to hang out and take a delicious breakfast from friendly staff with view over Cairo.
The cleanliness of the bathroom could have been a little bit better, but it wasn't a disaster. What would be great too is to change the music at the rooftop in the morning and in the evening. Its too generic and just very bad ;).

The room is super small. No space to walk. Bathroom is super outdated.

Verified reviewGreat old hotel with plenty of old world character. Top location close to the museums and Tahrir Square. Abundant shops and restaurants nearby and no touts, unlike Luxor. The 8th floor terrace gives a great view of downtown Cairo, warts and all! Spend an hour with a glass or two of cold beer and a pizza watching Egyption life below on the streets.
Like all old hotels of its class, the old girl needs a lick of paint and bit of fixing up, but in all a good value and safe place to stay in central Cairo.

Verified reviewAmazing location in the heart of Cairo, with a wonderful view from the roof top garden. WiFi is only available in shared public spaces. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Original art deco interior design. Dated, but in line with age of decor and building.

Verified reviewThe only good thing was the location
The breakfast was the most disgusting thing I've ever had the misfortune to (attempt to) eat. Stone cold fuul which should be served hot, some kind of yellow lard instead of butter, and stale bread. Stale bread in Egypt! The land of fresh bread. Even the coffee was disgusting. We stayed four nights but after the first morning we just went out of the hotel and paid for breakfast elsewhere. The description says you have a fridge in the room, yes you do, but once you leave the room, the electricity is switched off, so any cold drinks are warm when you get back, and if you've bought milk, that goes off. The "tea and coffee" that they claim to provide, is one tiny sachet of Nescafe, between two people! You need at least two to make one cup! But they said if we wanted any more, we'd have to buy them from the "restaurant" upstairs. No creamer provided either. But the worst thing by far was the fact the windows didn't close properly, so we came away with about three dozen mosquito bites each. There were such huge gaps, birds could have flown in, let alone mosquitoes. In short, a horrible place to stay, way overpriced for what it is. And the stinginess about providing coffee sachets just leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I've stayed all over Egypt, many times over the last 20 years and this is by far the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE if you don't want to come home covered in huge bites.

Verified reviewWonderful classic hotel from the 1930's still going strong. Great value for money and good location in downtown Cairo. Very large and comfortable rooms with clean bathrooms, also has a great rooftop terrace restaurant with cold beer. Very helpful and friendly staff and good to come back to after a day exploring the museums and vibrant street life. There are plenty of shops nearby with everything you could want. Comparable to the famous and even older Continental Hotel in Tangier.

Verified reviewVery atmospheric old hotel in downtown cairo. The winning element is definitely the original 1930's bar and rooftop area. Great breakfast & staff were always polite and friendly.
We had a fair few mosquitos bothering us at night. Rooms are pretty dated with creaky beds, simple bathroom.
