How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewPerfect downtown location. Our room was nice, spacious and very clean. Complimentary water and plenty of good toiletries. A special mention for the reception staff who were really friendly and so helpful.
It was a bit noisy, but that said we stayed at a weekend and Cairo is a noisy city!

Verified reviewNoisy sounds in the bathroom window. Window has to be open to reduce noise. The pigeons outside also make noise during nights and morning.

The day staff was rude and not helpful at all I was told to buy Egyptian SIM card and to bother them with questions like where I can eat, how to call a taxi and so on The water wasn’t going away in the shower cabin It was disgusting. I told the day staff about it but they did nothing

Verified reviewI enjoyed everything about it. An ideal location, situated directly across from the Egyptian Museum and downtown area (with plenty of shisha bars, cafes, and restaurants). The room was comfortable, spacious, and featured a lovely terrace.
I enjoyed every aspect of my stay. While there is some construction happening in the building, leading to dustiness once you exit the elevator, it did not impact my overall experience in any way.

I have a special thanks to Mr Ahmed Yehiah who went out of his way to assist me when i was struggling with a part of my trip further in Egypt. He advised me very well. The rest was lovely: the location, the room and overall ambience. When i came back to the hotel from my tour, we felt we were back to 'like home' and friends. I would highly recommend Al Mafadiah.
I would love to have supplies of tea and coffee throughout the stay instead of only a first day complimentary provision.

Verified reviewFriendly staff. Clean room location is very nice close to alot of tourist attraction and sites to visit. Looking at the reviews I was a bit sceptical but now I say it's a very good experience.
Room a bit narrow. Some said noises at night but I found nothing or I am a bit heavy head in terms of sleeping.

Verified reviewThis was the perfect location to be based, especially to get to the Egyptian Museum. Close to the Metro as well, for shorter trips around Cairo and to get to the train station. The room itself was nice and very comfortable. The staff were wonderful, both at the reception – Shady at the front desk was really great, and checked us in quite late after our flight was delayed – and at the rooftop restaurant where the whole team took great care of us during breakfast. A lovely experience.
The shower was a bit inconsistent in water pressure and the temperature varied quite a bit. But otherwise, a very nice place (note, there is some construction going on, but it didn’t bother us at all.). The hotel is on the 6th floor and upwards; we stayed on the 10th floor which was only accessible by stairs because of the construction, but again this didn’t bother us.

Verified reviewPerfectly situated - Tutankhamen is on the doorstep/ some off the nearby streets have pedestrian crossings /coffee shop on the next block/ taxis outside who were prepared to negotiate prices / easy and safe walk to glamorous downtown area / super friendly & helpful staff/ for the adventurous, other museums are a half hour walk / breakfast - a quirky mix of Western & local options - very tasty and filling. Did I mention the friendly staff ?
No signage in the lobby directing you to Hotel reception on the sixth floor. The lift door looks like it should slide but you have to pull it towards you to enter the lift. A work in progress with the renovations so some walking around internal construction debris- but they don’t work after hours so it’s not noisy.

Verified reviewI loved the overall decor of the hotel. The reception area was clean and neat and decorated beautifully! This is a re-model of an old or a new hotel and they are still in construction of several areas of the property. I had two different rooms while there: #809, a single, budget room with twin bed. Bed was very comfortable, room kind of smaller than I am used to, but it had everything I needed and I felt so comfortable sleeping there, I asked if I could just keep that room for the rest of my stay! But it was already booked. #704, a double room with queen sized bed was also comfortable and decorated quite nicely. The headboard contained built in ambiance lighting!
Unfortunately I do have a complaint, but I will assume it may be due to the re-model and ongoing construction. Room #704, the bathroom emitted smells from the sewer…that was very annoying and unpleasant,especially trying to relax while taking a shower! I did keep the bathroom door closed, which seemed to help enough to enjoy the rest of my stay. And yes, I did tell tell the manager about it-he was kind enough in sending someone to spray fragrances and cleaning stuff, but that only lasted for a few hours—the problem may be in the construction or perhaps a better seal around the toilet fittings or something…but it should be looked into!!
