How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe friendly staff. Dog friendly.
Location, surrounding construction sites, torn curtains, breakfast timing not suitable for diving timing. Wi-Fi only on roof not downstairs. Tv but no satellite or cable.
Thank you for review! Why did you choose us more than one time?!

Verified reviewThe staff were great and the dive guide was amazing. They did everything for us to enjoy the stay. The roof terrace made hanging around and sunbathing very nice. Yes it’s lokaled like 10 min walk from the city and the surrounding area looks a bit like a warzone, but me and my friend had the best time! Cheers

Verified reviewSadly I didn't like anything about the property.
My shared bathroom had rust everywhere rust on the sink the towel hangers and the water tank for the water. This water tank was also leaking and has been for some time as the tiled floor underneath it was stained and there was a bucket on the floor catching the drips. The water was also brown and cold which is probably adding to the rust and marks that are permanent on the sink. I have added some images to this review of the bathroom to help. I needed to work here during my stay and I was told the wifi was good enough. The wifi wasn't good enough and it only works okay on the rooftop which is exposed soit gets cold and windy which isn't an ideal work environment on top of a wifi that sadly isn't strong. My towel was also covered in the stain that seemed to be throughout the property. This hotel is in Marsa Alam city and set back from the sea which is fine but the surrounding area is a huge construction site and it's like an apocalyptic road and ghost town. At night I couldn't sleep due to the stray dogs outside constantly barking, I appreciate this part isn't to do with the property. A thin layer of dust covers the floors here due to the wind etc blowing sand or dust into the b&b but I can tell it doesn't get cleaned to remove this layer. I was due to stay a week but I could only stay 1 night because I felt so uncomfortable and the owner has since been unresponsive to booking.com and myself and will not refund the remaining nights. I just want to give people the heads up in advance so hopefully they don't make the same mistake I did.
Dear Richard, I'm disappointed to read this from you because you stayed only one night and you decided to leave without saying anything. If you had told me what It was wrong for you for sure I would have helped you to enjoy your stay. Unfortunately for someone like you is easier to write bad review. Anyway all what you mentioned is not true: no rust and the water tank is not in the bathroom so you cannot see it. In the rooftop you could stay also inside: warm, comfortable, no wind and with WiFi. The WiFi works good but for the video calls sometime could be not enough (in all Egypt). I'm not unresponsive because I replied to you and to Booking as well!

Verified reviewSmooth check-in, hospitable and friendly staff, very clean. Five-minute drive or 15-minute walk to downtown and there are supermarkets nearby. Mr. Omar was always available to assist with any requests we had, including arranging dives, transport, recommendations. Thank you for your hospitality!

Verified reviewNice place clean very nice young staff were very helpful
The owner was nice until it became payment time dispute. Tried charging me like 25$/ night when I had said that the first night was 17$ second night was 21$. And I would stay longer if he would honor the 17$ price. So I stayed longer and when I started to pay for extra days it became …oh well the price on booking currently is 26$. Screw him and his Egyptian try and manipulate squeeze changing their story way around money. It’s exhausting and they cause themselves so much more money. My plan included free breakfast since there was the payment dispute the night before. He tells his staff to tell me breakfast is $5. 🙄. I’ll never return.

Lots of construction work around the property, but it has nothing to do with the hostel.

Verified reviewOmar is a really great host and will go out of his way to help you with whatever you need. He helped us get a SIM card, dinners, a taxi into town, diving etc. The living area was ample and the bed was very comfortable, the shower was good and the terrace at the top was a nice place to chill at the end of the day.
The wifi only worked at the terrace and not in the room. I felt like there was a lack of furniture or bedside tables to put your personal effects. It was great to have a fridge but also not much else in the ‘kitchen’ area.

Verified reviewAll the staff and host Omar are amazing and very attentive. B&B was very comfy and clean. The rooftop terrace was amazing and cozy. Animal friendly place - we stayed with our dog.
The B&B itself is amazing, but the location is very strange. In the middle of a “ghost town”. If you are not very experienced traveller or do not like unexpected situations or surroundings then we suggest to book something else. The authentic city centre is just a short walk away, but we couldn’t do it because dogs started to follow us (and there are tens and tens of half strays) and started to bark and attack us. Was quite scary. Also when we were visiting the chef was not in the house, all the cafes and shops were in the centre where we could not go because of the dogs, it was very strange experience all together. Omar and the staff were very helpful and we could order food in and one guy even helped us to walk to the store and scare the dogs off.
Thank you!

Verified reviewThe staff were lovely and helpful. Extremely attentive and kind. They care about the cat Costa and the two dogs outside. The roof top was beautiful and the meeting room cozy. I was met with refreshments.
I had ordered a taxi at 12 for the bus 22:30 and the owner didn't bother to tell me that he hadn't gotten a hold of it until I checked out and it was too late for me to walk. He asked me to walk by myself with all my luggage. I had to catch one on the way while walking in the dust,I had never made it to the bus hadn't it been for a stranger stopping to pick me up. Also I was told the kitchen didn't have any utensils, not even a kettle, because I hadn't booked the whole flat, but that wasn't true. They had simply not equipped the common areas. And the owner seems to remove the listing as soon as he gets bad review. The common area wasn't clean.
Dear Anna Sofia, Thank you for your review!I'm sorry but I tried to help you with the taxi in the best way. The day you left was a special holiday due to the end of Ramadan so anybody was working and at the end I found someone but you have already left. Hope to meet you again. You are more than welcome!

Verified reviewEverything was absolutely perfect. Starting with the smiles and greetings of the workers there as they showed us to our room. The hospitality service is at a 5 star level thanks to the very kind and knowledgeable owner, Omar. Omar himself is such an honest, kind hearted person and made us feel at home. He helped us soo much with booking tours at cheaper prices than anywhere else. I couldn't find a better price for any tour online or at other shops. He also loves animals so much and has the cutest dogs, cats and turtle living in his place. They even invited us to have dinner with them every night, Omar is an amazing cook!!! Honestly I would love to come back to Marsa Alam just to visit all of them again! You made Marsa Alam the best experience we have ever had in a long time. WE CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!
🙏you are always more than welcome!

Verified reviewAwesome hostel and B&B in the town of Marsa Alam. The hostel features an amazing rooftop where to relax and a lovely common area with a nice kitchen. Omar, the owner, is an amazing host! He welcomed us warmly and gave us the best tips about Marsa Alam. We also booked some nice tours through him, which I recommend to do! He was super friendly and kind with us and also helped us with transfer when leaving Marsa Alam. We had such a great stay!
