Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

United Kingdom-The pillows were quite lumpy so not very comfortable -We were only provided with less than half a roll of toilet paper when we first arrived -There was only a plug socket next to one bed -The description on Booking.com says there would be free toiletries and shampoo but this wasn't the case.
-Perfect location close to tour agencies, restaurants, shops and the port. -Nice hot shower -Comfortable double beds -Clean towels each day

South AfricaHosts called me and texted me a whole bunch of times to ask me what time we would arrive/come back, over-communication. They’re the only hotel we stayed at on any island that doesn’t offer free drinking water. The family was unnecessarily loud in the common area that is outside the doors to the rooms early in the morning.
Big room, hot water and good water pressure. Great location.

United StatesWhen we arrived, we were offered a much smaller room with two beds than the four we had booked. When we protested, the owner took us to the property across the street with four beds. The room was nowhere closed to what was depicted and described on booking.com. The room and the bathroom were dirty, the bedsheets and blanket had stains. There were no windows in the room so it smelled of mould. The wifi did not work. The neighbors dogs barked all night and the curtains were so thin that the room was illuminated from the street lights all night. Also instead of steps, there is a steep ramp directly from the street to get to the room. It's extremely difficult to enter the room especially if you are carrying suitcases. We tripped atleast 4 times even after being careful.
Location is good. Near the ferry terminal, shops and restaurants.
