We had a courtyard room which smelled slightly damp and was a bit cold. There was an extra blanket which we could use.

* Very few options for breakfast. Only one type of juice, no cold cuts or meats or sausages, just one type of cheese and one flavor of yogurt, no pastries, no veggies and just 3 kinds of fruits, no hot dishes except for eggs - which sadly means none of the delicious motes that can be enjoyed while in Cuenca are available either. * Soft pillows that provide no cervical support. * Some rooms have no windows at all, so sadly no sunlight and no fresh air in them. * Limited number of available power outlets. Not a big problem for us, but business-oriented travelers might find this slightly inconvenient.

The hotel is very close to the central park but on a much quieter street, which means it's convenient for walking to the nearby attractions but also very silent at night. This calmness combined with the very comfy mattress helped us get a much needed rest at the end of each day. The staff is cheerful and kind, and they helped us with everything we asked from them. Every corner of the building we visited was very clean and well maintained, including the bathrooms. The addition of modern elements (mostly in the rooms) to the overall old-fashioned atmosphere of the place gives the hotel a unique feel.

Lovely old building, beautifully restored and decorated and comfortably furnished. Very convenient location, walking distance of everything, including the tram stop to the bus station and airport. Spacious bedroom, fabulously quiet, comfy bed, extensive buffet breakfast. Shared balcony with sofas and chairs to relax in the open air if, like us, you prefer to be outside in the daylight. Very pleasant, helpful and friendly staff. We were able to leave our bags after checking out and after a day exploring Cuenca relaxed in the hotel lounge for a couple of hours before our evening flight to Quito - so much nicer than waiting at the airport! This hotel is the best we’ve stayed at in our four weeks in Ecuador and perfect for a two or three night stay.

Our booked garden view room with patio, fully accessible, has neither a view or a patio, and has steps down into the room. We requested a change, which after one night, we did change to a more suitable room, and was offered compensation of a evenings meal for two at a co-owned restaurant, just 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Which was a reasonable remedy to the problem. Parking is available, free of charge, but is 2 blocks away in a secure multi-storey car park. Advance notice is required as the hotel has limited available spaces for customers. The hotel is on a one way street, which it shares with the City tram, so checking in and out requires a bit of thought, although the staff are very very helpful in this department.

The hotel is in a great location, friendly staff, very homely, with a lovely atmosphere. Breakfast was very good. We highly recommend staying here, Cuenca is a beautiful old city, and there is nowhere better to start your exploring than from here. We considered ourselves very safe at all times, even after dark, which isn't always the case everywhere in Ecuador.
