How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAlexandria and Danilo are very helpful and have created a tranquil homely environment at Minka Hostel. Danilo speaks good English and is quickly available via WhatsApp if you need any assistance. My room was clean, spacious and comfortable. I had a couple of issues with the shower drain and bedroom door lock, which Danilo fixed on the same day. He also helped me book a last-minute trip to Mindo, which I really enjoyed. Big supermarket nearby too, which is handy.
Kitchen space could have been kept better, some guests were making the sink dirty and clogged as well as leaving dirty dishes behind. So it would be good to have posters/signage reinforcing good hygiene manners in communal spaces.

It can get noisy sometimes from the outside. The mattress was a bit tough to my liking

Verified reviewThe hosts were amazing, Alexandra made us immediately feel at home. They even had a website with a lot of tips for travellers. We rented a double room which was extremely spacious with a giant bathroom and super big and comfortable bed.

Verified reviewVery nice hostel in a good area of Quito. The bus to the historic center leaves in 1 minute walking distance. Market and Supermarket are just round the corner. We got an upgrade I guess as there were hardly any tourists when we were there. It was quiet at night, only in the morning some noise from the gas tank shop in front of the hostel. Very clean and spacious. Our bicycles where stored safely and the staff has many useful information about Quito and things to do around.
The hostel has an attempt to be fully automatic, but in fact the camera to open the door doesn't always work great, so we had to wait a while sometimes to get in. Also when arriving we waited quite a while, but to admit we made a last minute reservation and didn't communicate the arrival time.

Verified reviewEverything calm and clean. Owner of hostel was himself a backpacker so he can give you good advice. Also he tried to help wherever he could, e.g with picking me up from the airport or a perfect organization of a Cuyabeno tour. His wife is super friendly as well and made a delicious breakfast. Thank you :)
I just saw one other person when I stayed there, might not be your place if you want to make party.

Verified reviewNot much. The shower had hot water and they have adequate wifi.
Had to wait 2-3 minutes to be let in at 9:30pm. The street, Gustavo Darquea, felt very sketchy at night with the group of around 10 thuggish looking men that were staring me down at the end of the block. So I felt quite nervous standing waiting outside with my backpack. Nobody was there to greet me when I arrived. You have to talk to a remote person through the speaker and microphone. I was woken up by lots of noise and loud women talking in the staff kitchen at 8 am next to where the private room was. Bed sheets were stained with what appeared to be blood. Toilet leaked water on the floor. Not worth the price in my opinion, and definitely would not repeat.

Verified reviewI stayed at Minka two separate times between my trip to the Galápagos Islands and really enjoyed it. Alexandra was very kind and helpful during both of my stays. Plus everything is automated in the hostel, and their website has great travel trips! I stayed in the standard room and the double room during my separate trips and actually preferred the smaller standard room. Both were clean and organized, but the WiFi connection in the standard room upstairs was much more stable. WiFi was extremely spotty and sometimes nonexistent in the downstairs double room. Otherwise both the private room options were great. And I felt very secure with the luggage storage when I left Quito.
WiFi spotty in some areas. Sometimes it was very noisy in the evening/morning in the downstairs double room.

Verified reviewVery nice hostal in the center of Quito. Danilo, his wife and staff made our stay an incredible experience. Not only can they help you out with all your needs with an easy to navigate site and recommendations, they also cater to your every need. From the time we arrived early in morning where they made the room for us even though we were in advance to the misadventure we lived in the Teleferico where Danilo went out of his way to bring us back in the middle of the night. Thank you Danilo.
