How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewCasona Tobar is in the old colonial section of Quito, very convenient to museums, 1 min walk to bus stop at Santo Domingo plaza, 10 min walk to San Francisco Metro subway station. Taxis and Uber also available. The hotel is a beautifully refurbished hacienda, everything is new, bed was very comfortable.. A hearty breakfast is served in one of the three open-air courtyards. Many restaurants are nearby. We had a room toward the back and were never bothered by noise. We felt safe walking around Quito, police presence is visible.

Verified reviewThe location of Casona Tobar was perfect for visiting Quito Historic Center! It is a 10 minute walk to Plaza Grande and Plaza de San Francisco (locations of the Catedral Metropolitana, Palacio de Carondelet, Iglesia de Compania de Jesus, and Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco). The Basilica de Voto Nacional is an additional 10-15 minute walk. The Casona Tobar is above street level (you have to go up a flight of stairs from the street to get to the entrance). Once inside the door, to the left is the reception desk and the breakfast area (large enough for about a dozen+ people) and to the right is an internet room with several computers. The guest rooms are arranged in 2 floors around 3 open-roofed courtyards. From the courtyard at the back of the casona, you can see the Virgen del Panecillo. The rooms were comfortable and clean, as were the bathrooms. The breakfast was fresh fruit, eggs, toast, avocado, and local cheese, along with a variety of fresh juices and yogurt. The owner speaks perfect English (from DC), and the staff were all very friendly and accommodating!

Verified reviewThis was the 3rd time we stayed here. After having a 9 day expedition climbing and summiting most of the volcanos and mountains around Ecuador which was physically hard, it was the best returning to Casona Tobar hotel for some rest. Everyone who works here is amazing and super helpful. My partner had some problems after Chimborazo with altitude sickness and Kelly the manager helped with calling a friend of his in the medical field. Going to miss this place and hopefully will return in the future.

Verified reviewI had an absolutely amazing stay at Casona Tobar Hotel. From the moment I arrived I felt so welcomed and cared for. The hotel is charming, cozy and beautifully renovated but what truly made my experience unforgettable was the people. The wonderful girls working there, Jessica and Viviana, were incredibly warm, attentive and thoughtful. They went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable, even taking the time to show me around the city and walk me to nearby places at night so that I felt completely safe. The owner, Alex, was equally wonderful and welcoming and he made me feel at home right away. Every detail, from the cleanliness of the rooms to the personalized attention and the delicious breakfast with fresh natural juices, exceeded my expectations. Muchas gracias, Alex, Jessica y Viviana, por todo!

Verified reviewThe service was exceptional, we were received immediately and kindly, the personnel was very helpful and the communication was fluent both in English and Spanish. We returned late at night but the personnel opened the door right away within seconds. Excellent customer service overall. The room was beautiful, it was rustic but comfortable, clean and offered a full set of towels. The breakfast was excellent, natural juice, fresh fruit. The location of the hotel was strategic to wander around the historical center of Quito. Amazing experience. Will return.

Verified reviewAlex and the rest of the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and kind. The room was quiet, clean, comfortable, and right in the heart of the historic district. The coffee was perfect in the morning.
We didn't need to leave for the airport as early as we were told to go by the front desk. We got to the airport and couldn't check in yet because we were too early.

Verified reviewWhat I liked the most was the exceptionally warm and friendly treatment of the hotel staff. The hotel is a very well preserved old mansion, apparently from the 19th century, with a beautiful architecture. The room was very clean, the bed well made and clean. The bathroom was also impeccable, with clean towels and bath gel in the shower as well as in the sink. It should be noted that unlike many other hotel rooms I have visited, in this case, the hot water temperature could be regulated quite well and smoothly, without the problems that often afflict electric water heaters, in which the hot water supply is cut off due to low flow. Breakfast was balanced, attentively served and well presented. Another detail that the visitor should consider is that the hotel is strategically located in the center of Quito, relatively close to the San Francisco metro station, and much closer to the trolleybus station. It is perfectly possible, as I did, to travel from the Quitumbe bus station to the San Francisco metro station.
Everything in life has its lights and shadows, this is normal, and in the case of an old house built under architectural canons of past times, you could not expect accessibility without seriously modifying part of that historical heritage. The entrance to the street has stairs that are not accessible to someone who comes in a wheelchair or who has physical limitations.
