How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe property itself self had a unique style to it. Doesn’t really look like the pictures.
The room was very cold with no heat at all. It was miserable coming back late at night to a freezing room, and then being woken up by the sun blaring in at 8 a.m. I wish they had different varieties of breakfast. Breakfast was the same thing everyday.

Verified reviewInteresting property, it’s selling point is it’s unique design and aesthetics.
We had a wobbly toilet seat which would move each time you would use the toilet. We were told that the rooftop closed at midnight, went up at 10/10:15pm and it was closed. There was no shower gel or shampoo within the room which would have been expected from a hotel of this star rating. We have breakfast included in our booking, however we had to leave earlier than the breakfast start time of 8am, and they could not even cater to give us some bread that we would be able to be able to take away with us. For a 4* hotel you would expect some service to help guests, especially a basic request such as some bread to take away.

Verified reviewThe historic features
Don't be duped by the name or the pictures. On our way to a Galapagos cruise, we booked in Feb for arrival in May. This was a pay at property booking. Our card was charged days later for the full 5day stay. When I began the inquiry as to why-- both Booking and Hotel David blamed each other. I spoke with the Owner on arrival and he blamed Booking. Next we arrive in May-- 3 months later at 2am and and the bed linen is filthy- body fluid stains etc.. Towels look very used. We had to ask for new linen then spread the beds ourselves. We had booked a city view. The room faced the street looking at a building in disrepair - no view. We were awaken by street noise at 430 am next morning. We were given an option to change room. The new room's linen was just a little better still old looking and not very clean. There was nowhere to put our luggage except on the floor. My husband is 74 and had to bend to the floor for the duration each time he need something from his luggage. The bathroom has glass all around-- obviously not for guests traveling with other than partner. We spoke w/ the Owner to give perspective from the guests standpoint. Unfortunately that was met with insult --suggesting that there was a problem with our credit card why the funds were taken prematurely and that he didnt see anything wrong with the linen or the fact that we had no city view. He also promised to get to us regarding the premature charge and to date has not. I definitely would not recommend this hotel due to this experience. I will say that the staff was responsive to our needs. But when an Owner becomes defensive when his guests points out problems this means his guests are not his focus. Design of the rooms also indicate a lack of concern for guest comfort. We left a day early and was promised that the manager would get back to us regarding the shortened stay. Nothing to date. There are way better hotels in Ecuador and we stayed at 2 of them during our vacation.

Verified reviewI loved the architecture of the building that has been nicely renovated. The location was nice, the side street was quite and the feel of the whole neighborhood was pleasant. Also close to the main part of the colonial part of Quito.
It could had been nice to have a curtain in the bathroom for privacy.

Verified reviewIt looks good when you come in - quite flashy and upmarket but that's just the surface.
1. Be warned - they do not accept cards only cash - even though it says cash on booking.com. 2. The towels were threadbare and gray from over bleaching. My sister said she had a stain on her towel. Also they only provide 2 towels - no hand towels or washers which is usual in most hotels. 3. Breakfast is ok but no choice.

Verified reviewWe absolutely loved the view from the rooftop! We ate breakfast there every morning and sat there at night. :) We also loved the room!! It had a very comfortable bed, a beautiful bathroom with a bathtub and it was always clean!
We didn't like that the prices in the rooftop restaurant were a little pricy and that we couldn't bring our own food onto the rooftop to eat. :( One night we got a pizza to-go and brought it up to eat and we were asked to pay a cover charge or to leave. :(

Verified reviewThe location and the decoration, also the rooftop views, plus the ratio value/price
Walls are thin, so it's pretty noisy, the are no sockets to charge your phone in the room. They need to take care a little bit more about little maintenances.
