If they just had better mosquito netting and better pillows it would definitely be at 10 out of 10.

The pillows were unfortunately very bad to sleep on and there were quite a few mosquitoes. They had netting over the bed but it didn’t stretch to the floor so the mosquitos were pretty bad at night

Unbelievable location and view. I’ve never seen a view like this and the cabin was built in an amazing way. Food was great. The people were so kind.

It is a challenge to get to and from the property but that also the beauty of it. The noise of the traffic below at times was quite loud.

It is simple living with everything you need to enjoy the beauty of your surroundings

We liked everything, but you have to know: the room has no windows and when it rains at night it is very loud.

Wonderful place with a wonderful and helpful staff. You’re like in the middle if the jungle. The food in the restaurant was excellent. A lot of attention to detail and many useful items were placed in the room. Everything is done with high environmental awareness.

Unique Experience to Sleep with Nature

We had a rain and wind storm the first night and found it hard to sleep because the wind was very loud and you felt somewhat exposed. Steep narrow road in some places into the property. I would not like to drive the road at night.

It was unique! Open at the front of the room to the outdoors and to nature if it wanted to enter the room. Very nice staff and had breakfast and dinner for 2 days. Breakfast and dinners were very good.

A unique experience I'll never forget

Being in that environment was a unique experience: not only were the views to the ocean stunning, with a continual gentle breeze, but the feeling of seclusion in our own treehouse-like cabin while perched above the world was a balm to the soul. Obviously a lot of thought, skill and use of the best materials had gone into the construction of the "minimalist" buildings and challenging landscaping. If this accommodation costs more than others, it's well worth it. The food was very special: wonderfully prepared Cajun French cuisine; local fruit & vegetables. The staff was excellent: helpful, sincere. They had pride in the place.

There is NOTHING not to like about this property. One of the days during my stay, the island experienced torrential downpours. Not only was I happily surprised to find that my treetop cabin remained dry with rain pouring down all around, but midafternoon there was an unexpected knock at my door. Standing outside was the property manager, holding the largest coconut I’d ever seen: she brought me a sweetly appointed husk of coconut water because she knew I could not go out and had stayed in to work. I was both touched and well hydrated until the rain finally abated in time for supper, prepared in the property’s beautiful restaurant area.

The Manicou River Resort has so many things to love about it: its location high up in the mountains, its breathtaking views of two bays and the sea from sun up to sunset, its comfortable and beautifully maintained cabins, and its exceptionally professional and attentive staff.

A little bit overpriced , particularly the meals - while delicious. Same for transport. For that reason we opted to cook directly or eat out, which was considerably less expensive. We also rented a car.

Absolutely beautiful and unique room, staff was amazing.

    I loved this property!

I loved the open floor plan and location of the “treehouse”. The employees were lovely and the property clean and welcoming. Kayola was a wonderful source for trip ideas. We had a car and enjoyed that freedom but another couple there drove up there then had a driver come to them.

The remote location is a plus & a minus. It makes for great views, but you will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. We didn't have a car, but ended up having a great driver recommended by Manicou River & he took us on some fantastic adventures while driving safely.

Our compliments to our wonderful chef, Yolanda! One person in our group has a food allergy & Yolanda served us wonderful, tasty & safe meals. We asked for fish one day & she was able to make it for us. Very accommodating. The rooms are fantastic. Lovely view looking out over the ocean & town below. The frogs sang us to sleep at night. Showered with a frog & a lizard.

The resort is lovely, and has much potential, but the location, at this point, is a bit challenging.

First, our arrival date was not communicated to staff, and there was no room for us to stay that night. While we were not charged for the error, it was a great inconvenience having to scramble to find other accommodations for the night, taking up what should have been the our first day of vacation. Second, the drive up to the cottage itself. Yes, we are all informed that it is steep, and requires a 4x4 vehicle. I'm not sure everyone defines "steep" the same way, and the incredible incline plus sharp switchbacks make this a very hairy experience, especially if you are not accustomed to driving on the right side. Even walking to and from your cottage is a bit dangerous as there are no handrails; it is easy to lose your balance as the path is made up of poured concrete and uneven stairs, without lighting. Third, the meals were a mixed bag. First night was delicious, but was the composition for each subsequent night, with little variety. Due to the water pump failing, we were without running water for 24 hours. Management graciously deducted that night from our bill as well, but it calls into question how rigorously they inspect and maintain the basic infrastructure.

Everyone knows the expression, "location, location, location". In this case, the location was amazing, but offered some significant challenges. The cottage itself is beautiful and rustic in the right degree, and perfect for the setting. Has all of the necessary comforts, with its best asset being the view. Even from up high, you can hear the sound of the surf below, with a delightful chorus of nighttime crickets and other sounds. Facing due west, every evening was a sunset spectacle, followed by amazing stars.

Access road very steep not walkable and only accessible with 4 wheel drive. Not all taxis are able or willing to attempt the only road up.
