The furniture is a little bit dated/old. However, everything was really clean and tidy.

The host and staff are really friendly and helpful. Unlike anywhere else. This was really the warmest place to stay ever! Breakfast was great, rooms had a good size, and the garden had a swinging lounge chair. In front of the hotel, there is a small river, very cosy. The beds are comfortable, shower is great!

Our room (comfort double room in main hotel) was very spacious and more than big enough to accomodate a sofa bed too, which would have been much cheaper for us, however we were forced to book two rooms the second of which was hardly needed.

The room was very spacious, comfortable. The whole hotel is done up well and in great condition. The restaurant is very posh and I'm sure very good quality food but was just a bit too expensive for us to order too much. The breakfast options are relatively simple but certainly good enough. The swimming pool was great, clean and tidy and certainly not cold like some other guests have complained, the thermometer was even showing 30deg. It is relatively small being only about 8m x 4m in size but fortunately when we were there there were hardly any other people in it. Great view too. The staff were friendly and polite.

Overall the rooms ( i was in multiple ones) gave an old and dated impression....some parts of the hotel are renewed and superb yet others are (very) dated which gave a dual feeling in the end.

Unfortunately the restaurant had reservations only. But the waitress was kind enough to let me set at the, what I think it is, table for the staff. That was fine with me, except for the ashtray. Breakfast was good and the staff on duty very friendly. I would definitely come back another time to spend more time in this hotel so I can also use the swimming pool and spa facilities as well as, go for hikes in the beautiful scenery.

It was very warm outside during our stay and our room was particularly hot. It was manageable but is an aspect which could be improved.

In spite of being a dog friendly hotel we were made to feel extremely unwelcome the first evening when sitting on the outside terrace with our dogs by a senior member of staff. The bar/restaurant waiter was the only one who was engaging and helpful, even though he was very busy. Overall, other staff seemed overstretched and irritated when we asked a question - particularly at breakfast time on our first morning . The ‘dog friendly’ room we were assigned was the furthest most inaccessible room, making it more difficult to manage the dogs and all the extra stuff that goes with travelling with dogs.

After booking, we found out that they charge 37EUR to use a cot (for 1 night) for our 2y old daughter. Pretty ridiculous, if you ask me.

Kids friendly hotel. The stuff is very pleasant, willing to help on any complain. The breakfast is great. Anyone can find what to eat. The location is great, sorounded by forest and a green valley. There is a big supermarket in the area, 5 minutes walk from the hotel open until 22:0

The reception desk staff were not very cheerful. On check in, the receptionist was very efficient but later when we passed her a few times she looked bored. On the morning of check out a different receptionist was a bit cross when we asked to buy some of the hotel's wine - we asked before going to breakfast to give time & were told we should have done it the night before as she was on her own. When we checked out, she had got the wine that was available & was a bit more friendly. It was a shame the Receptionists left us feeling disappointed - I did speak in German to them as I know it is difficult to deal with customers when they don't make the effort. We were a bit disappointed with our room which was above the Winzerstube opposite and wasn't as we were expecting from previous two or three times we have stayed, when we were in the main building. Not as comfy & not so easy to keep cool as at the top. At the Stube we waited 20 minutes for someone to take a drink order (it was busy with customers ordering food too) - we had asked if it was okay before sitting down. In the end we left and had one in a friendly bar nearby.

Dinner and evening service were good - we enjoyed the food. Breakfast also good. We like the location and being able to park easily on site.

Simply splendid. We only spent one night at the Hirschen but will definitely return. Everything was fabulous, from the pre-arrival communication via email to our arrival, unforgettable dinner, spacious and peaceful room, showers and bedding, the breakfast buffet (quality, variety, atmosphere of dining area) and swimming pool with the most beautiful views of the neighboring mountains, changing Fall leaves, church tower and vineyards. All in a hotel filled with history and astounding works of Medieval and Baroque art. Our boys are older (11 & 8) and have traveled a good deal. Staying at the Hirschen gave them a taste of the history, art, and culinary culture of the Black Forest region. Thank you for an unforgettable family stay.
