What a nice little surprise this hotel and restaurant were! Great location in the center of Spay near the river. Parking was free and near the hotel. The decor was very charming, with lots of wood, antiques, and items from nature. The room was comfortable, although there was no AC. Thankfully it was a comfortable day! We were there to see the Rhine in Flames and worried it might be noisy outside, but it was fine. We chose to eat dinner at the restaurant in the hotel. We were seated outside which was lovely & the food was quite good. Breakfast was GREAT and included in the price. I highly recommend staying here!

AC in the room would have been nice. We are super early risers so an earlier breakfast would have been nice.

The restaurant was not open, despite Booking.com stating the hotel had a restaurant. The only option for us was a camping ground dining option.

Breakfast plentiful with enough choice. Location ideal for an over-night stay, solo traveller. There is free parking on the street or car-park opposite. A friendly, helpful and charming receptionist.

The Alter Post was fine; no complaints there ... I arrived on a Monday and nearly every place in the area that I looked at was not open for food or drinks etc. So, check beforehand.

This is a lovely old building and the rooms are clean and comfortable

When we arrived (early) the hotel was closed, then a member of staff arrived and phoned someone who spoke English, who didn't know about our booking. Then they gave us a room key on the doorstep. I messaged them to let them know that we would return to the hotel in the evening as the restaurant was closed and we were eating out. When we got back to the hotel at 8.30pm it was in darkness and no staff were present. We found our room which was lovely. In the morning we went down for breakfast and it appeared like there were no staff around again so we helped ourselves to some breakfast. I went to leave the key on reception and there was a member of staff there who asked me to pay (even though I had paid online) eventually she agreed that I had paid. I was so disappointed as we chose this hotel because we've been to the restaurant before and thought it would be lovely to stay there but the staff - or lack of staff- felt very strange. The person I spoke to on reception was quite unfriendly. I think we expected more as it is a hotel

We booked last minute, room was really too small but it was clean and staff were sweet. Breakfast was ok. Continental. The rooms are not handicap friendly and have a steep stairs to climb and after mentioning we are an aged couple… gave us a room at the end of a long corridor! So if you want to stay here , book in advance and ask fr a comfortable room.

We booked last minute, but that doesn’t excuse to be given the smallest corner room! Reading reviews of spacious room, we had booked and also Booking.com gave us a discount but very very small room!!! No space at all… last minute booking punished???? Not at all like described as in booking.com

Very kind staff - had a huge car trip ahead of me and asked if they could fill my thermos of coffee - they did so with a smile! thank you! Very clean and quet room, very lovely staff!!

Very quaint, historic hotel, on the bus and train route. Lovely area, beautiful surroundings, so pleasant to go walking around the area. The food at the restaurant was excellent.

It was quite hot and there was no fan or air conditioner in the room. It rained heavily in the night, so we couldn't keep the windows open.The hairdryer didn't work.

The food in the restaurant in the hotel was very, very good. The bicycle garage is well equipped for small repairs. The staff is very helpful & friendly.

We stopped night of Tuesday 22nd August, we knew the restaurant was closed However the day before we arrived we were informed by the hotel that we had to collect our key from a box outside the hotel using a code.The reception and the bar were shut. We needed help to get food and drink as we’d arrived by train , as it transpired all the other places to eat and drink in Spey were also shut on this Tuesday. After walking around Spay for 2 hours we ended up buying up buying crisps and water from a garage.

Breakfast was good plenty to choose from, great location, quirky place, friendly staff.
