How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

There weren't many people my first couple of nights due to low season, but later on there were

I could feel the springs in the bed a bit, and the light next to my bed didn't work.
Absolutely beautiful hostel, with a big open communal main area and a lovely patio garden out the back with a stunning purple flowering tree. A real treat of a location too, so close to the sea and not too far from the center of town. Plug socket next to the bed with a little shelf was perfect too.

Beware! Mike, a freelance instructor started an argument with me, when he came into the hostel. I moved away from him. The next day he came in, he came towards me shouting, swearing, being agressive & then pushed me. He's clearly a misogynist! I spoke to the manager who told him off. There are nicer better instructors that pop in to use for lessons.
Good location, walkable to main area and quiet for bedtime. Good inside and outside lounging spaces. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff. 2 minutes to the beach. Only negative comment is about a freelance person who doesn't work at the hostel but pops in to get clients

The mattress wasn’t that comfortable.
Very social hostel! Very easy socializing because of the common room. Met a lot of nice people! You can hang out easily and the atmosfeer is great. One of the best hostels I stayed in, especially as a solo traveler.

The place is amazing, the vibe is just great! The host is so helpful and makes sure you have a great stay. The people and the vibe is really chilled also if you are not a surfer you will love this place.

Broken shower heads, could be a little bit more cleaner in shower rooms too.
Very friendly staff. Comfortable beds. Nice atmosphere, easy to find some people to chat in a common room. Good location (just few min walk to the beach or restaurants).

The snoring of some guests made sleeping impossible some nights, but Andrea always tries his best to change your room if you have this, or some sort of other problem
Big spacious and beautiful old house with lovely garden/patio to enjoy day and night cause the climate in the island is just perfect. There are also different spaces within the house for hanging out with people or relaxing reading a book or taking a nap There are all sort of kitchen utensils available to use. Its literally 2 minutes walk away from all the interesting spots in santa maria The owner is very helpful and chilled at the same time, so you do feel like at home. Somehow this hostel attracts such interesting open minded people from all around the world who enjoy adventure and love life! I will definitely come back soon

everything was really good
I loved the garden and the facilities. It is very well located, out of the hassle and bustle of the centre, and very close to the beach. Andrea was super helpful! Will be back

Amazing hostel!! So so happy i made this choice! When i first arrived to the island, i had another place ( cozy studio close to the beach: PLEASE DONT GO THERE!! The owner is a scammer!! She tried to charge me extra and she cancelled my booking so that i cannot put a bad review, but the owner is quite agressive and disrespectfull, totally scammer, not the place from the pics,.. SO FONT GO! However, come here!! This place is amazing! You feel like you are at home! Andrea cant be nicer with all guests, the place is extremly clean, i found some backpackers and the vibe was so good but also is a pleasent and peacefull place. And appart from that, the location is perfect! Angulo beach is the best spot from my point of view! So do not hesitate and come here! Thanks so much guys i will definetly come here when i come back to sal!! Will miss you all!

Not to the fault of the hostel, but for solo travellers be aware that you likely won’t meet anyone in the hostel if you stay June-August as it is off-season.
Very clean and tidy and well looked after. Andrea was great and answered loads of questions. Good distance from main area of town. Made stay very easy.

Mosquitos are everywhere in Santa Maria, remember to close the window.
