Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalInstead of having so much food, I would have preferred to have less food but of better taste. But again, this might vary from individual to individual.
Very kind and amicable staff - in fact - it is the staff that makes this place. They treated us very kindly and always with a smile. The activities are a lot of fun, even if you just decide to watch people.

United KingdomA little more attention to detail in the cleaning of the rooms is required and to the maintenance of small items around the hotel such as broken lights, strimming the grass areas and some litter.

United KingdomI got a food bug and had a poorly stomach for 4 days. Although I reported it to reception twice, there was no real interest, noone followed or took a report - until I asked for the manager on our day of check out In addition was hotel was good and up to standard but there was not much of interest to do on the island it although it is called Cape Verde it is actually largely barren and sandstone so not visually appealing !
Breakfast in the main buffer was extensive with the usual range of made to order eggs etc. But it was a bit noisy and busy. As a member of the Level club we had access to an adjacent sit down and order breakfast that was calmer but just as good

ItalySmoking around the pool should not be allowed, why would a non-smoker be forced to smoke along with his impolite neighbors?! Internet was at times unstable. Towels by the pools were hardly available, as opening hours are never respected: quite a shame for such a beautiful place, please work on it!

SwedenSmall downside is that tha pools close at six in the evening. Also, the workforce, and especially room service, might be a little understaffed at times which might be something for management to look at because the staff are doing a great job so really deserve a great work environment without stress.
The hotel, rooms, and area was really nice. Great pool area with a bar in the middle and great drinks. Food was great by british standards, absolutely ok by everyone elses. The personell where all really nice and helpfull and we (me and my wife who visited for our honeymoon) especially want to mention the bartender Domingos, and Charlene at the reception, who really helped make our stay wonderful. All in all a really great stay and hope to come back soon! Oh, and if you afford to stay there you afford to tip because those €uros make a bigger difference in the workers pockets than in ours. If you go to Santa Maria and not only want to eat at tourist traps both Cam's, and Georges, are great little restaurants with a genuine feel. Available in the area we did a personal tour of the island with Union Tours (our guide was Rony Monteiro and he was great, just remember to bring a few extra euros for entrance fees), jetski (with really nice instructors down by Bar Marley, a really nice reagge bar at the beach), and the Ziplinecabovervde that was really fun and also offered some live local funana-music that was awesome!

United KingdomI think the location is good if you want to just stay in the resort. However, if you want to do a bit of exploring you can't really walk to the main town of Santa Maria and even if you do there isn't that much to do in the town. Sal does seem the place to just relax and chill by the pool/sea rather than explore.
The Melia Llana was fantastic, I loved that it was adult only and it was never too busy. The food was good, and as a coeliac (gluten free) you can ask the chef for different options which was great. There are two pools and we never struggled to get a sun bed. Overall the rooms were clean and comfortable and we had a lovely stay

RussiaExcellent hotel! The hotel rating on booking could be higher. We did not have high expectations. All our wishes were met. The room was cozy and comfortable. Excellent bright view from the window of the territory and the pool. The ocean and the beach with sun loungers nearby. Breakwaters make it possible to swim in calm water with light waves. There are many restaurants and bars, a lot of food, the food is varied and tasty. There are no complaints about the quality of the food, we felt great. New dishes were added every day. The room always had clean and sparkling bottled water, as well as beer and carbonated drinks in the minibar. Also in the room tea, coffee, sugar, kettle. Hairdryer. There is even an ironing board and iron, but we did not use it. Bathroom and shower. Interesting layout, you can look out the window through the room and the balcony, taking a bath. There were enough sun loungers and places at the tables and in the recreation area for everyone. Yoga, aqua aerobics, water volleyball and other animation. Live music or a show every evening. I really liked the show "Circus". The guys tried so hard, such flexibility, plasticity and acting. Above all praise. The hotel staff is extremely friendly and caring. We felt that they were glad to see us. No one ever spoiled our vacation. Just a miracle! For variety, we went to the city of Santa Clara by bus from the hotel. We also rented a car and explored the island ourselves. You could return the car at the reception. Convenient! We have been to many hotels in different countries of the world. Sometimes worse and sometimes better. But the price-quality ratio at this hotel is at a good level. You don't need to expect something super luxurious for the appropriate money. We will remember our vacation in Cabo Verde with warmth. Thank you for providing us with excellent accommodation and time spent at the hotel.

United KingdomSee above but would add that we had to chase for our room to be made up most days and one days we had to ask twice for new hand and shower towels. Entertainment was woeful. We had already upgraded to the Level but were disappointed that the promise of priority on bookings was nothing short of a joke.
The Level staff were helpful and generally sorted our issues but the staff in some of the restaurants other than the buffet restaurant were unhelpful, disorganised and slow. Spa was a highlight and restaurants in nearby Santa Maria were nice.
