How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Very small. Taste not at a level of a Costa Rican Breakfast
Dear Serrano, thank you very much for your visit and for taking the time to write a review. We are very sorry to learn that our breakfast service did not meet your expectations. We provide a mix of Buffet and a la carte, so our guests can enjoy visits to the Buffet and also their main course served on the table. We will share your comments with our Meal & beverage Department for review. Your comments are very valuable to us. Have a wonderful day

It would be nice to have wifi in the rooms.

Verified reviewWhat a wonderful Lodge. Very classic and rustic yet everything is completely new and clean. Super Location, very friendly staff. And dinner is dinner is awesome - not yet Michelin star but super close. I recommend the morning tour for the Quetzal. It is extremely early in the morning but really worth to get up and meet 6am.

Verified reviewLocation was beautiful and the property had beautiful gardens with different areas to sit and enjoy. There were trails you could take right from the property, one to a small waterfall. The food was good, typical costa rican to gourmet. Many trout options from their own pond, with a beautiful dining room. Booked a tour to see the Quetzal, which we did see! Highlight!
Our room was cold and took a while to warm up with a very small heater. They did bring hot water bottles which was really nice, and the beds had appropriate bedding for the cold room. The same with their main gathering rooms, like the dining room and bar room, small wood stoves, which didnt quite do the job. No coffee or tea in the rooms and aside from breakfast time. If you wanted coffee or tea you had to pay $3 to $5 for plain coffee or tea.

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay the last time at Trogon Lodge! Even though it was just for one night, the experience was unforgettable. The gardens are beautiful and full of life—perfect for birdwatching, which is clearly a highlight here. We spotted several colorful species just steps from our room. The hiking trail through the forest was peaceful and scenic, and the refreshing plunge in the river the next morning was an energizing way to start the day. Breakfast was absolutely delicious—fresh, hearty, and served with warm hospitality. I just love Trogon! It’s a perfect mountain escape for nature lovers and for a weekend getaway of the city. Highly recommended!
Nothing.

Verified reviewBeautiful setting and thoughtful garden layout nestled among the cloud forest mountains. The trails were great and we got the opportunity to view quetzals & hummingbirds in and around the property. The cosy mountain lodge style of the room and all the shared areas were dreamy and the restaurant was superb. Best in our Costa Rica trip.
The lack of WiFi access in the room (we had to go to the shared areas) and the absence of tea/coffee making facilities in the room. These were a minor inconvenience but still

Verified reviewThe lodge is set in beautiful gardens in the cloud forest - we really enjoyed our walks around the gardens and by the river, seeing many different birds along the way. A nice touch was the provision of hot water bottles delivered to our room as it did get chilly at night. We really enjoyed the cocktails in the colonial style bar and our meal in the restaurant was one of the best we had during our holiday.
We felt the quetzal tour was a little overpriced so gave it a miss.

Verified reviewLovely gardens and walks in the area. Beautiful setting in cloud forest . Good breakfast despite very cold dining room . Bedroom was basic but acceptable.
Food very expensive and for one of us , of poor quality ( over cooked pasta pomodoro ). The dining room was cold for both the evening meal and especially at breakfast . Everyone was sitting in coats . This was unacceptable. It did not make for a comfortable or relaxing experience. The early morning birding trip had too many takers so we had to drive ( we did get a slight price reduction) . It was only on the road outside the lodge and the whole area was full of cars and people looking for quetzals . Very dispiriting and costly . I’m sure the later birding walk would have been a far more rewarding experience.

Verified reviewStunning garden location. Excursion to see Resplendent Quetzal. Hot water bottles. Lovely room.
Lack of coffee facilities. Dining room rather cool for breakfast (though warm enough for dinner) . High numbered rooms are up quite a steep hill. Hot water seemed a little unreliable too.
