Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Amazing stay at the lodge. We were at the sunrise lodge and this one was more isolated from the main house which we loved. We saw so many birds in the morning and our stay was magical. The highlight of our Costa Rica trip. Also we hosts are super friendly and available if you have any questions.

United KingdomThe ranch was so nice. Amazing views across the valley to the nearby volcano. It's remote and the road is a little bumpy to get up (you need 4X4) so best to bring food in with you. Breakfast was really good in a beautiful room with a great view.

United KingdomThe drive up to the bungalows is a challenge and a 4 wheel drive vehicle essential.
The bungalows were comfortable, private and with great views of Turrialba volcano. They are set in a sizeable plot and there are paths within it to explore the forest. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly. Breakfasts were delightful with a great selection of fresh fruit, nuts, granola, toast and eggs served in a beautiful dining cabin.

We had an incredible stay at this beautiful place! We stayed in the Sunrise Cabin, which was secluded and offered a truly relaxing experience. The views were breathtaking, and the property itself is expansive and meticulously maintained. Mia and Ranzel were outstanding hosts, assisting us with anything we needed. For example, when we needed a flashlight at night to search for owls we could hear around us, they were quick to help. Dayanna also responded almost immediately to any questions we had over WhatsApp, making everything so convenient. The cabin was spotless and came with a fully equipped kitchenette, making it feel like a home away from home. Breakfast was another highlight—not only was the food delicious, but the dining area itself was lovely and inviting. I can’t recommend this place highly enough!

United StatesThe cabins have a breathtaking mountain view of Turrialba and Turrialba volcano. We traveled in March turtle and it was nice and cool at night. The cabins have everything you need to stay there for several days or weeks. We only stayed one night because it was a stopping point to Pacuare River Lodge for kayaking. We wished we had stayed longer. A beautiful breakfast is included and was served in their communal area where there’s also wine to purchase (after your long drive from San Jose, you’ll need a drink.) you park your car at the village in the bottom and ride up with your luggage on a 4 x 4 “Mule” and it takes six minutes up the hill. The couple that runs it and their staff are lovely. It would be a great midway point for a trip to Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean side. I would recommend taking the northern route there and not the one through Catago like we did. I could imagine someone staying there for a few weeks to write a book!

United KingdomThe sloth didn’t show itself!! But that’s nature!
We loved it was so remote with phenomenal views. The cabins had lovely verandas and spectacular vistas down into the valley below. We saw a lot of toucans and other birds and a coyote (although we heard them in the night too). We loved the grounds and the family feel. Breakfast was superb with free range eggs and milk from their cows. I recommend you walk the trail if you’re able, it’s a bit hard going on the lungs if you’re not gym fit, but manageable. Lovely vistas and you might see a sloth. Good hot showers, good kitchen and utensil. Definately get Daniel & Raquel to pick you up from the bottom if you haven’t got a hardy 4x4, they’re a lovely couple who help out. Thank you

The views are absolutely stunning. This is a place literally up in the clouds! Mia, Ranzel, and the whole staff could not have been more welcoming. It’s a very VERY chill stay though, so plan accordingly if you have little kids. I also can’t stress enough the need for a 4x4 to get there; our rental company “upgraded” us from X-Trail to Audi Q3 (ugh), and we weren’t able to make it all the way up. Thankfully the staff came down and picked us up!

United StatesYes, you need a 4x4 car, the road up the mountain was challenging, however, good news, the owners said the road is supposed to be fixed next year, I would check back with them. They do provide a one time round trip service if you are not keen on making the trek.
Imagine driving up and up a mountain to arrive at your own cottage with outstanding views of the clouds, town and distant mountain range (and volcano). The accommodation is outstanding with a wonderful Tica vibe (we stayed in the Toucan Cottage). The bed and shower are really good, with a small efficiency kitchen for those interested in a longer stay. The breakfast was served in a common area, it too was lovely, tropical and delicious.

United StatesI didn't have cell phone service and most of the residents in the area only spoke Spanish, which I unfortunately could not speak. Maybe to help those without cell service to draw a map or take a video on making the Right turn turn at the clinic to the dirt road, as most rental car navigation systems stop giving directions at the clinic on the left on 10. You MUST rent a 4x4 to get to the lodge and please add extra time to your drive coming from San Jose' airport as traffic congestion is really bad and there is only a one lane winding road going and coming, which can slow you down because you have to stay behind buses and 18 wheelers, making the drive much longer. The lodge however does provide transportation up and down the mountain if needed, which was a great help!
Amazing views, comfort, excellent service and very friendly and helpful staff. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and also the horseback riding tour and the amazing full body massage that Raquel offers. David and Steve were exceptional hosts and were quick to answer any questions and provide assistance when needed. Thank you for an amazing vacation!!!!!!!!

You are surrounded by nature and everything is really neat and clean! Breakfast is excellent! We did an horse riding tour with Walter and we just loved it! we spent only 2 nights but would love to spend some more time! The management was very friendly and helpful! totally recommend it! 10!!
