How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe arrived early and were able to put our luggage in storage and sit around the pool to relax. Enjoyed the breakfast, and overall the food served at the restaurant was very enjoyable. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

Verified reviewIn the text there are typos that I couldn’t fix..(capital letters and such …) . My apology. The staff is AMAZING The location is absolutely fantastic. A few steps from the beach, the Main Street , all the shopping areas, local supermarkets ect . The property is gorgeous, the pool area , lobby. The fact that there is a little store inside the hotel is lovely. About the room it will be discussed later.
The room. The pictures on booking.com are VERY misleading. It shows a kitchen, lots of Cupboards so you may think that their is a full kitchen and tools. There is a microwave and a little fridge, but don’t get confused , there is no kitchen. There is no stove, and all the beautiful cupboards are absolutely empty. So the pictures are miss leading. We got a very small room without even one chair so my I got two chairs. We arrived on a Friday, the ceiling fan didn’t work. We got the fan replaced the Wednesday the week after, a day before check out. This is after I needed to remind the staff three times. The bed is a double size, not even Queen and the mattress, in our view , was very uncomfortable. The room is average.

Verified reviewThe staff was friendly, however the rooms are run down and need attention. The mattress was ancient and very uncomfortable as were the pillows. Breakfast was good. For the price this place is not worth it.
Old uncomfortable mattresses and AC made a lot of noise. Glad we were only there for one night.

Verified reviewVery small room offered on arrival. After a leak moved to a larger room. Rats running across the roof during the night and miserable receptionist. Pool area and bar staff were really good, attentive but not intrusive. Breakfast included was minimal and basic.

Verified reviewIf you go in with the right expectations, this will be fine. If you expected it to be a resort with some feeling of luxury you will be very disappointed.
A few hotel rooms centered around a bar, in a strip-mall type location, with loud music until 9-10pm. Rooms are very clean but shabby and old. Hot water didn’t work reliably. Need to place a wet washcloth over all sink and shower drains to keep bugs from crawling in. Pool is the best part but wouldn’t compete with any side-of-the-highway motel in the US.

Verified reviewWe stayed at the Palms twice during our spring break trip to Costa Rica, and we couldn't rate it more highly. The staff, food, rooms and location were all great, and the pool area is fabulous. There is a shop onsite. All staff went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The king room on the second floor was especially comfortable, and we enjoyed watching the nightly football games played across the street from our balcony. The hotel is safe, and Coco itself is a great place to base yourself if you are looking for a quiet beach town with a bit of shopping and a good atmosphere. Thank you to everyone at The Palms for welcoming us!

Verified reviewThe reception staff was very nice and friendly. Balcony option was ok, although most of the view was on to the opposite roof
The room did not look like on the photos, they desperately need a refurbishment. Especially the bathroom - it was very outdated and inconvenient, nowhere to put your things etc. Very limited and mediocre breakfast included in the rate + grumpy breakfast staff; There was lots of action in the pool area in the evenings, so no privacy in the room; The wristband, that marks you like cattle. Strange system with the pool towels + its coupons. Thankfully we changed last minute to a room with balcony - the basic room would have almost been windowless in a basement-like part. No hairdryer.
