Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Statesthe parking is a bit cumbersome. they don't have easy parking. you have to park parallel to the street. and it's a very narrow street, so you don't have too much room to maneuver.
the place was outstanding. the pool was awesome. the breakfast delicious. and its a great place to see and interact with the monkeys, without needing to go to a park or a reserve. they are everywhere and it's a free show every day. It also has access to an almost private beach.

CanadaAll was great, the beach trail can be a bit challenging especially when getting dark.
Beautiful place, great location and super nice and helpful stuff. Monkeys gang in the balcony in the morning made our day. Beautiful jungle/ocean view. Very good breakfast. Great place for families. Room was big and comfortable, and location is pretty good (about 1.5k from MA centre).

SpainThe breakfast is amazing. They offer everything you could want. From fresh fruit, to cooked food, to bread, cereal, and good coffee. The location is glorious. With the view of the ocean and the mountains in the background. And so lush. That green!

United KingdomNothing in particular, just small areas to be improved on.
Staff were brilliant, pool facilities were good and food at the pool bar and breakfast was nice. Rooms were a bit rough around the edges in terms of decoration, windows loose in frames etc. Great location for the public beach, just a 5 minute walk.

United KingdomWalk down the beach was a bit of a walk down a lot of steps. Beach was very rocky when trying to go into the sea so would recommend wet shoes, otherwise was quite painful but otherwise a beautiful sandy beach
High quality hotel in a location with beautiful views overlooking the sea. Fun watching the monkeys each day about 5pm trying to raid the hotels. Good food - I would stay again

BrazilThe color of my sink lol (red). But the installation was great, hot shower, that was just really a detail.
The animals around, was more worth it than going to Manuel Antonio Park, I saw a tucano, a lizard, a sloth, monkeys everywhere… including my varanda ! Cocktails at happy hour 2 for 1. The pool is not heated, but was warm enough, during day and night. Pool and restaurant with a view. Great option of a second pool with no kids. Beautiful architecture, great food at breakfast (pancakes and eggs from scratch) and dinner. The hotel is on a hill, but a golf car took us up any time needed.

JapanNone I could think of.
Shana by the beach is centrally located in the beautiful Manuel Antonio neighborhood, the gorgeous tucked in beach Playa Bisaenz is 5-7 mins private walk from the hotel. The staff at Shana by the beach are all Fabulous & greet us with warm genuine smiles every time. The hotel has beautiful surrounding aesthetics, we had booked a junior suite & we loved the patio with the Beautiful colorful plants & trees to view from the patio. I would definitely recommend my friends & family to stay here and me myself will be coming here every year. The staff at the restaurant always energetic smiling Mr Xavier, Erica & Alan’s sunny side up eggs & pancakes, Yasmin’s beautiful welcoming smile are all the big draws of Shana by the beach, everyone including the staff who escorted us in the golf cart, the security staff at the gate, the housekeeping staff were all Superb. What a Fantastic staff & hotel you have. Thanks Hoyette! My kids & I definitely enjoyed our stay very much at Beautiful Shana by the beach Hotel. You guys deserve 5 stars seriously.

BelgiumBeautiful location. The Biesanz beach which you can reach via a short jungle trail from the hotel is also a nice plus. Manuel Antonio NP nearby. The room was spacious. What we liked the most was viewing the monkeys from the swimming pool. It was very entertaining to see them walk around the premises and occasionally sneak into a room of someone who had left their terrace door open.

United KingdomRoom was a bit tired. Food from the restaurant is a bit hit and miss, the sushi and ceviche were great but I felt some of the dishes were overpriced and bland (seafood pasta)
Loved staying here, the adults pools especially is really nice with a bar serving food and drinks. Having access to Biesanz beach through the hotel was a selling point to us, where we went and relaxed and swam in the mornings with not too many people. Be careful it’s a steep 10min walk down, the walk back up could be tough for someone less fit! Same goes with the grounds itself, it’s located on a very steep hill to go up to the restaurant and pool but they have golf carts to help you. Staff were really lovely. Lots of wildlife around including a big group of monkeys that came down to the pool area one night. The views from breakfast were fab.

United StatesNothing - they’re perfect!
The staff was AMAZING! Everyone was so helpful Ann kind. We had a baby and a toddler with us, and everyone engaged them, talked to them, helped us to get high chairs, when we needed. Staff was always there with a golf-cart to take us up or down the hill to reception. They were also very helpful with booking tours. We were worried when our tour ran late, because we were already requesting a late checkout, but they were so nice about it, and gave us extra time. Also, one person in our group complimented the fresh mangoes at breakfast one morning, and the next morning, when mangoes weren’t being served, he brought over a plate of mangoes just for her. It was the nicest thing, and we felt so taken care of. Gorgeous property! The rooms were great - the beds and linens were so comfortable. The bathroom was pristine! The private walkway to the beach was like a mini nature walk for the kids. The pool, bar, restaurant - everything was immaculate. Our absolute favorite though, was all of the monkeys we could see right at eye level from our balcony. This was our favorite hotel on our 8-day trip. I would recommend this place to everyone!

United StatesThe roads to the hotel is pretty narrow and it was challenging to drive in and out.
The location is very close to nature and beach. We were able to spot different birds, including toucans and macaws. White-faced monkeys came in the afternoon to our pouch looking for food. It was a fun close encounter! A beautiful trail leading to the hidden beach, where we spotted two sloths!

Cayman IslandsWhile the overall experience was wonderful, a few aspects could be improved. The alcoholic beverages were not well-balanced, lacking the finesse expected from a hotel of this caliber. Additionally, the lighting in the stairwells could be enhanced, as they were turned off at 9:00 p.m., making it inconvenient and potentially unsafe for guests moving around the property in the evening.
Shana is a stunning hotel that offers breathtaking views, exceptional customer service, and the added delight of regular evening visits from playful monkeys—making each stay truly unforgettable.

United StatesIt was perfect! Not ideal for someone who doesn’t like nature tho but that was my favorite part!! so perfect for nature lovers!!
The property is Beautiful! I feel like I didn’t even need to go to the national park, every animal was there! Every time I went outside I saw something!! The beach is definitely a HIKE but so worth it! My boys loved the nature hike through the rainforest and the beach was worth it. The property was clean and the staff was amazing! Special shoutout to the restaurant/bar staff! So awesome! Special shoutout to Johnny, Javier, and Warner!!!
