How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Thank you very much for your honest feedback. We are sorry about your bed, there was a problem and we fixed it now. It would have been a pleasure for us to fix it immediately if you had mentioned this. Even if we check the rooms before our guests arriving there might be things we don't see. But we would be very happy to get things fixed if there is a problem. Because it was important for us to have a hotel with good access wo now that there can be noises from the street. We are of course sorry that you felt uncomfortable because of this and the lack of air conditioning. As this was visible at the time of booking, we think it is sad that this led to such a poor rating. We tried to work with open designed rooms and ceiling fans also to save some energy. We could have provided a additional fan. We began to inform guest by their reservations about that. It is very important for us that our guest feel comfortable during their stay.

Verified reviewGreat place! Roman and his wife could not have been nicer! The breakfast they provided was amazing! I would stay here again in a hearbeat!
I liked everything! My comment for others is they are located in the jungle. Which is a huge plus for seeing animals. The rooms are simple and can get warm. Roman provided an additional fan when asked. So accomodating!! My only suggestion is a rubber mat in the shower might be a good idea. The floors a lovely but can be slippery.

Verified reviewThe pool was a nice respite from the heat. The canopy of trees surrounding the dining area provided beauty and great sightings of birds, monkeys, agouti, butterflies and morr. The breakfast was the best of anywhere I've traveled. But the very best thing was how lovely Roman and Bettina were as people and hosts. They really care about the comfort of their guests. It will be one of our best memories of this trip.
It was all fine. They are hard at work on renovations to an old property and I think it will just get better and better

Verified reviewThe breakfast was great- very plentiful, fresh, and delicious. The natural setting of the lodge allowed for viewing wildlife and birds which was a big bonus for me. The owners were very nice and always willing to meet my needs.
The sign at the road could be brighter and more visible.

No air condition at the room but it has a fan that works fine.

Verified reviewThis place is paradise. We saw more animals here than anywhere else so far in Costa Rica. Even though it is just off the main highway, it is the jungle. The property is large, and full of trees. A troupe of monkeys comes to visit almost everyday. There are agouti, coati, iguana, toucans, hummingbirds, and at night, not far away, coyotes. There is an absolute symphony of nature sounds. The owner, Bettina, and her daughters, are lovely. The breakfast is great - fresh fruit, fresh buns, eggs, cereal, coffee. It kept us going all day. The hotel is ideally situated for visiting the Nauyaca Waterfalls, Marino Ballena National Park and the Uvita beach, Hacienda Baru nature trails, the Alturas Wildlife Sancturary, and more. There is a lovely swimming pool. We would do an excursion in the morning, and hang out by the pool in the afternoon. We were here for six nights, and had a fantastic time. Would definitely visit again.

Nothing was illuminated, we arrived in the dark, the pathways were slippery and the gardens were not maintained at all. The rooms are not comfortable, the beds were lousy, synthetic cheap sheets, no side-table in between the beds.

Verified reviewIt is really near Domenical and Uvita without being in the tourist spot. In the middle of the nature but really comfortable and really nice people. You’ll have a cute dog and duck which will have an eye on you and love to cuddle. In the morning you’ll see monkeys and other wild animals.

Verified reviewThe hosts are warm and friendly. This was our second stay and we brought our family this time. The rooms are spotless and comfortable. The breakfast with homemade bread! was delicious and very generous. This charming, rustic hotel nestled against a forested hill is delightful. Did l mention the very reasonable prices for a place so close to several nearby beaches. And for someone who enjoys reading at bedtime the bedside lamps were most appreciated.

When we arrived, we thought there was a mistake as there are not too many signs of where the rooms are. Very very dark entrance. A bit far from Dominical

Verified reviewComfortable beds. Room was very clean. This is an older hotel. It could use some sprucing-up. A bit over grown, but the jungle added to the appeal. Great birding, lots of morpho butterflies, even saw a pizote. The owners are what made the place so nice. (Young couple trying to make a go at life in CR.) They could not have been more accommodating! Breakfast (included) was delicious.
Iguana Libre is not a fancy, manicured property. We are not particular travelers. Booked on the fly. We were not disappointed.

Verified reviewCharming, clean and budget-friendly eco lodge about 5 mins from seaside village of Dominical. Nice pool in jungle setting. Fabulous breakfast (eggs, fresh fruit and juice, cereal, yogurt and homemade rolls) served where monkeys often play in the trees. Caring and thoughtful hosts strive to make your stay comfortable.

Verified reviewLovely hosts, deliscious breakfast and lots of nature around you. We saw some colibris at breakfast and sometimes a monkey dropped by. Also many other birds and geckos to see. There are some nice restaurants close by but you should come with a car if you wanna go to dominical.
