How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe probably was lovely and the pool was great! Beds were comfortable and the rooms were spacious.
It was wonderful, only thing I would say is check in should be 2-3pm, 4pm is a little late.

Verified reviewVery big comfortable apartment with a kitchen that includes everything you need to make a good meal. The location was good, only 10min walk from the beach. Enough parking space and good instructions for check in.
The official checkin was at 16:00 and we arrived already at 12:00 in tamarindo. When we contacted the owner, at first early checkin was not available because we booked 2 days in advance. Fortunately the cleaning lady was ready at 14:30 and we could checkin earlier then expected.

Cleaning could be better - the bathroom needs attention mold/limescale. The toaster (broken) and electric kettle (full of rust) in poor condiotins - could not be used

Verified reviewThe room was truly amazing, super clean and very comfortable. The pool was great and the location was perfect being super close to the main restaurants and to the beach, but still in a calm street.
Check in and check out hours are a little inconvenient but nothing worth rating down the place!!

Verified reviewThis place is nice, but be aware that they will charge you a DEPOSIT. Just make sure you do it with your credit card, because if you make the reservation with your debit card you will not get assistance from anybody at this place.
You don’t have interaction with any body at the administration. The common areas were not clean…

Verified reviewThe location was walkable. They accommodated our last minute, emergency reservation.
The bedroom and bathroom were extremely worn down! The mattress was hard as a rock. It felt like springs with a thin layer of cloth. It clearly had never been wiped down and the paint was peeling everywhere. The bathroom window was stuck shut! We made sure to wear shower shoes for safety! The TV buffered almost the entire time. I am aware that being by the water can cause more than normal wear but this was clearly unkept.

Verified reviewThe location was really good and that is the only good thing I can say about this Hotel. It is very central and close to the main beach and some great restaurants but there is nothing else that was good about this "Hotel".
Where do I begin, firstly, the hotel said they would send us check in instructions an hour before our check in time, not only did they not do that, we had to reach out 20 minutes after our check in time to request the information, and after multiple unanswered calls, they finally responded to us on the Booking.com App. Secondly, this is not a hotel, it is a bad airbnb posing as a hotel. They do not provide toiletries beyond what's initially provided, they do not clean the room, there is no reception, it is literally a self check in airbnb, if I want and airbnb I will go on Airbnb I would not book a hotel. The place was not very clean, especially the bathroom, and there were ants everywhere in the kitchen and we did not leave out any food to cause it. THIS "HOTEL" WAS NOT WORTH THE PRICE AT ALL!

The stove was broken. The shelf in the fridge was broken. There was 2 light bulbs burnt out. Checking in was terrible. And the messages I received all said 11am but the cleaning lady knocked on our door at 10am saying that check out was now! She was super sweet and polite (this was 100% not her fault) she said that the new owners have changed checkout from 11 am to 10am. This is absolutely unacceptable without any warning. This made me very uncomfortable and super rushed.
