How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStaying in the treehouse was a lovely experience, especially with the on balcony kitchen and dining facilities. Recommend! Communal area is fun with ping pong and pool - generally cool place.
Just double check what you are supposed to be paying on arrival, as they almost overcharged us.

Verified reviewGreat - chilled out hostel with a lovely friendly vibe. Great food on offer too from their onsite restaurant. Fabulous location near one of the entrances to the national park.

Verified reviewThis is the place to be it you want to stay where the party is at. However quiet time starts at 22:00 so you’ll be sure to get enough sleep. This hostel is located super close to the entrance of the Uvita Beach (national park) which is breathtaking and home to many of the animals you hope to spot during a holiday in Costa Rica. Regarding the accomodation itself, our cabin is due renovation and although many reviews mention the well equiped kitchen, we did not feel comfortable to make use of it. Good pressure in the shower 👍

Verified reviewGreat location, the closest beach was only 5 mins away. The place looks exactly as in the pictures. There were plenty of trees with shade, attracting some wildlife as well. The chilling area was also very nice with the hammocks, plus there were many things to do such as a pool table, darts, ping pong, foosball etc. The three-person house we stayed in was also very nice ,especially the small porch with a hammock and a chair.
This hostel would have been a 9/10 if it wasn`t for the music. The bar is very close to the living quarters, and there is music constantly playing from 7 am until 10 pm. It`s usually not very loud, but it still makes it difficult to just turn off and enjoy being in nature. One of the evenings, they hosted a karaoke night, which was very loud and annoying as you could hear it even across the whole street. On another afternoon/evening they had a big party with a DJ where the music was blasting, and you could absolutely not escape it in any way. Many of the guests (including us) complained about the music but the staff was not very nice, they just told us the party was happening and that`s it. We ended up leaving a day early (something I`ve never done before) because of this, and some other guests did, too. Luckily, they had no problem returning the price for that evening so we could look for another place. It`s a shame because it could have been the perfect place, but there were no indications that there would be music all day long and parties at night on camp.

Verified reviewVery relaxed and quiet location. Great kitchen facilities.
Showers are simply an open pipe and quite a distance from some of the rooms. Wifi is inconsistent anywhere away from the main reception and bar. Biting flies / mosquitoes are plentiful around the property

Verified reviewThe vibe is great, the staff is super nice and accommodating, they let me store my luggage as I arrived before the check in time. Fantastic location, there is beach access where you don’t have to pay, just ask there. The best thing is that you’ll wake up to the sounds of howler monkeys and birds. I would stay at Flutterby’a again!

Verified reviewThe location was superb, very close to the beach and easily walkable. We also head breakfast included, which was great. It also has a restaurant with good options for lunch and dinner, bar is alive every evening but it is not too loud in case you want to got to sleep early.
The mosquito net had some holes, so we got bitten quite a bit. Also, there was some slightly unpleasant smell in the room.

Verified reviewFood was okay but was also walking distance to good food places. Really nice to have a tree house to myself with a patio and hammock. I appreciated the privacy. The exposed room gave way to jungle sounds which gave me the best sleep. Walking distance to the beech was dreamy.
The dead leaves were cluttering the property and made it feel disorderly.

Verified reviewThis was the best hostel i stayed in Costarica. It has a proper surf Caribbean vibe. The bar, the restaurant is amazing anyone can come and eat or drink. Not like some other hostel you not even allowed to be in courtyard to wait for someone. The hostel is 2 minutes from the beach. Unfortunately quite far from the actual town but it didn't matter to me at all. The food was amazing and the cocktails were delicious. Friendly staff. As these are tree house the toilet and showers are outside so have a torch to go down the stairs. Beds have mosquito Nets and if not you can ask for one. I recommend this hostel 10/10
Everything was perfect

Verified reviewNice atmosphere and good restaurant. Breakfast was good. Our room was nice and quiet. Affordable rooms.
The bed was terrible, it felt like it would fall apart any second. I woke up every time my partner moved because the entire bed would shake. Only cold showers.
