Nice but expensive with so-so service and food. I'd probably look into the Andaz for next time.

The location was scenic and beautiful on the bay. The breakfast buffet was very good. The lunch at the Tiki restaurant was also solid. Dinner at Mokoko was not great and also over priced. The rooms were nice except it didn't make a ton of sense to have the sitting room unairconditioned given the extreme heat midday. It reduced the overall size of the usable room space. The coffee tasting was super fun and informative. We loved that. The staff was good not great. We came here after the Springs in Arenal, and there the staff went out of their way to give so much hospitality. Checking in outside is a little rough mid-day with the extreme heat. The resort fees are quite high. The gym was so-so. The view wasn't good, and the equipment was lacking. It is odd that the adults only pool is the central pool. It was constantly dirty with leaves, though I do think they tried to clean it. The sunscreen and bugspray for guests to use is such a nice touch, but it was often out and not replenished. Service at the restaurants (esp Mokoko) was slow at times).

The noise from the building work!! Tarnished our stay if I’m honest. Hoped work would stop over the weekend but it continued even on a Sunday

Great staff, great location, clean rooms, calm happy environment where nothing is too much trouble

It has beautiful grounds. Well kept and great location. The beach is very quiet no big waves so if looking for surf it’s not the hotel-location for it unless you are ok going to adjacent beach locations.

We come every year and it’s always as good as the first time.

The spa is overpriced I think for what it is. I went with my partner for a couples massage and to spend time and the facilities were completely separate, the deep tissue massage was also not great.

We didn’t make it to breakfast sadly but it looked great.

Beautiful architecture with a splash of food poisoning, a desperate quest for warm water and front-row-seats at the Olympics of unfriendliness Let’s start at the beginning: They started the check-in by reading us the list of possible offences and the respective fines. The display of mistrust was followed by 20-minute-long procedure. When I interrupted asking if I could please just have the keys as I was not feeling very well and go to the room, he continued his endless speech. An intake to a prison with a life sentence seemed like a smother process at this point. Once in our room I wanted to take a shower – too bad there was no warm water. We mentioned this at the front desk (as we were not the only ones) – no reaction, no change, no apology. Most of us then had dinner at the restaurant – which resulted in three people having food poisoning. Again, something I mentioned at front desk. The reaction: A grunt. No apology, no follow-up questions to find out what might have caused multiple guests to be sick. The whole experience was accompanied by unfriendly, inattentive and what seemed untrained staff. At some point it became a sport of who was first able to get the attention of staff and be served. A game we mostly lost. Simply said, this hotel is a disgrace for any other house carrying 5 stars. 5-star hospitality is a form of art. A place where every experience is seamless, every member of the staff is part of beautiful choreography of services that interlock. You can find beautiful places everywhere, but it is the staff and their level of service that sets a 5-star property apart. I can hardly blame only the staff for all the things that went wrong as there is a general manager who obviously fails to train his team properly. If a GM does not have any respect for the art of hospitality, they should give their position to someone who will take pride in delivering a 5-star experience.

Unfortunately I became too ill to travel and when I communicated and provided medical documentation, the staff/manager disregarded my situation and still charged me! I understand business policies, but I believe that policy should not supercede people. With the raise in viruses and being conscientious of public health, leniency would have been a better option. Even if a cancellation fee had to be charged, it should never be the full amount in verifiable situations.

My only complaint is we wished they had more Costa Rican food. They have a seafood restaurant and a Mediterranean restaurant. Both the food was a little overworked. We wish they had more authentic Costa Rican and casual restaurants. We did greatly appreciate the kids menu.

The property is beautiful, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. They encourage you to speak Spanish but are very low-key about it. It is right on the pacific warm ocean and you can hop between the pool and the ocean.

The food was fabulous, delicious, and artfully prepared, there was a vegetarian vegan menu, and the desserts was amazing. The staff was so gracious and giving and friendly. Loved seeing monkeys from the hotel room. Enjoyed the many pools. One of the pools was of normal width yet super long, really fun to do long laps in. Enjoyed the fitness center.
