Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyWe stayed in the very nice family room, which was unfortunately a bit small for 4 people. We wanted to visit the national park in the afternoon and had asked the evening before if we could use the room before the official check-in time of 3:00 p.m., but unfortunately this was not possible. However, we were able to store our luggage.
A beautiful hotel with friendly owners. The hotel also supports educational projects in the surrounding area. The hotel itself and the rooms are tastefully decorated. It is also only a 5-minute walk to the center of Santa Elena. The breakfast was also good. We were able to park in private parking spaces right next to the hotel.

United KingdomA warm welcome, fantastic breakfast made by the chef, brand new facilities and the perfect location just a short walk to the town and central to all the Monteverde valley has to offer. I also love that they are giving back to the community through programmes for local children.

FranceIt was quite difficult to arrive there from La Fortuna to Monteverde but this is not a concern for this hotel that is great. The wifi connection was slow. Difficult to observe birds around.
This hotel is brand new, sitting on a cliff with a nice view. It is very modern, the room was very comfortable and the breakfast zone was very nice. One can reach the town walking down some stairs (need to climb them up upon return). The personnel was also very helpful, although new in this business. I think it is one of the nicest hotels in this location with a very competitive price too.

United StatesWe loved this clean, simple hotel, with exceptionally friendly staff. The rooms are small but has everything you need. Breakfast was fantastic, and the beds were the most comfortable that we've slept on during our stay in Costa Rica. It's a windy area, but a nice reprieve from the heat of the beach area that we were coming from. Would stay there again!

IrelandPerfect. Just a heads up no elevators and several flights of outdoor stairs. Not a problem , a jfyi.
Breakfast was exceptional. Fruit coffee juice and toast to start witha choice of 5 cooked to order mains including a burrito, waffles, granola and youghert. Hotel is brand new with a lovely minimalist design, polished concrete floors, wood and glass over three blocks. Didnt fully appreciate that this is run to generate profits that go entirely educating local kids. Amazing. Dutch couple running it are inspiring. Great bedding options ( we got 3 singles)

CanadaEverything was superb! The hotel is modern, clean, and in a great location so that you can walk to everything. It sits high up above the town so the views are great. Breakfasts were excellent with lots of selection (I loved the locally made yogurt and granola!). The hosts, Joan and Ronald, are incredibly friendly (as is all staff) and clearly passionate about the local people. They have a heart for improving the lives/education of the local children. It’s nice to know that while enjoying our own family vacation we are enabling change in this wonderful community ❤️

United KingdomThat we couldn't stay longer!
Main thing for us was the Dutch couple who managed the Hotel, super friendly, knowledgeable, made you feel so relaxed and went that extra mile to make the hotel experience even better but it was also the entire setup that appealed to us, the fact that staying here you was contributing towards helping local children, the style of the hotel was like nothing else we had come across, the main building where reception/restaurant was so open, great views but so stylish with local arts dotted everywhere and beautiful local plants to make you feel relaxed, we loved the rooms set-up , just simple but stylish with a very eco orientated thought put into it and of course the view across Monteverde, the fact that the trees cut down where the plot was for the hotel, all the wood was recycled back into the building and it's furniture, finally the Breakfast, one if not the best we had on our entire Costa Rica journey, an original style dish of beans & rice, with other options which my wife & kid thoroughly enjoyed, washed down with fresh coffee & juices, also it was a short easy journey into town. The couple also helped us with the day to day excursions, sorting out & contacting the places, helping with travel if needed, just made it that much easier to have a great few days in Monteverde recommending what to do and the layout/distance to the places we chose to indulge in, highly recommend this place as not just a place to stay but a total experience to enter into

United StatesFantastic new boutique hotel. The reception staff helped us arrange excellent activities, even before we arrived. The rooms were comfortable, the breakfast was tasty, and the lobby/breakfast area was well appointed with games and drinks for hanging out. Views were beautiful, and the new path carved down into the town center made walking to restaurants and shops super convenient. A taxi driver even mentioned the importance of the hotel’s social enterprise work. It truly is a “hotel with heart!”

The management team, Joan and Ronald, together with their staff are amazing host: kind, thoughtful and going out of their way to make us feel welcome. The hotel is part of a social enterprise, with profits going to local schools. Talking to Joan and Ronald and understanding what is behind the hotel is so eye opening in understanding the purpose of this hotel. The location of the hotel is great: it overlooks the town and you can walk to town center via the outside stairs on the back of the property in a few minutes. The lobby/breakfast area is a separate space with such a contemporary design that makes you feel you are in an art museum. They also support local artists by exhibiting their work in the lobby. The breakfast menu has 5 different choices, with fresh fruit every morning. The staff is super helpful in communicating with the places of interest for us.

United StatesWhat a beautiful place with wonderful people. The best part about staying here is their direct support to the local community - they donate more than half of their profits towards educational projects in the region. Therefore, when staying in this incredible place, you are directly making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. The breakfast was superb, and we also loved the "Honesty" area where you recorded what you took, and it would be added to your bill at the end of your stay - so you did not have to go and order a glass of wine, or a beer. You would take it and write down the details for them. The location is absolutely perfect. We could easily walk to restaurants and the center of town. We had a car, however when we did different activities on one day, they were able to organize a taxi for us. The staff is wonderful and incredibly welcoming and helpful. We really cannot say enough good things about this special place. It is an inspiration, and we would love to see more places like this in the world. They would always have our support.

CanadaNothing, everything was wonderful.
From the minute you walk in you’re greeted by friendly people. What was exceptional was how out of their way they went to make my stay above and beyond. My tours and transfers were organised at the last minute on my request and they always ensured I was taken care of. Led by a husband and wife team, everyone works together feeling like a family, and that’s what this hotel feels like: like you’re hosted by a family. You really feel guided, comfortable and safe. I thought it was exceptionally kind that my taxi driver was given a cup of coffee after a long journey. The service far exceeds what I experienced at other hotels. The hotel is new so the facilities are great and the rooms are designed in a clever and efficient way that ensures a very spacious bathroom. The bed is comfortable, everything is very clean: spotless. There’s also lots of space for co-working etc. Monteverde is exceptionally beautiful and the hotel is located in the town/village but all the activities aren’t far at all so it really is a great location. All in all I loved my stay, my expectations were far exceeded and I think everyone should stay in this hotel, you’re sure to have a wonderful experience. Thank you for such an incredible experience and the immense kindness.

United StatesThis mission driven hotel is brand new. It's location is priceless. It sits on a hill overlooking downtown Monteverde with a path leading to restaurants and shops. The hotel's mission is to give back to the community. It has a complete floor with meeting rooms and classrooms. The owners organize educational activities and the hotel shares resources with the town. The staff is very attentive and the service is excellent. Meals are great, and rooms are comfortable. We enjoyed this stay very much, and learned a lot.

SwitzerlandYou‘ll hear the motorcycle from the street, though quite away from the hotel. But this is in general in Santa Elena. Just bring earplugs over, if you have a sensitive sleep.
Very nice new hotel, so friendly and welcoming, gave us excellent tips and booked a great guy for the bird watching tour where we saw so many birds and monkeys. Alejandra even gave us some great tips for La Fortuna. Breakfast is delicious too and even for the morning with very early start for the tour, they prepared us a brownbag with yoghurt, granola, fruits and juce! And art exposed can be buyed at reasonable price (much nicer than the things in the touristic shops). And I liked the stylish and simple design!

NetherlandsThe garden is still in the early stages, so it hasn’t fully grown in yet. Also, because the hotel just opened, it felt a little quiet at times. But because of that we got all the attention in the world!
The location is perfect – right in the center of Santa Elena, with everything within walking distance. The hotel has a unique concept where the majority of the profits support children’s education, which makes the stay feel extra meaningful. I was one of the first guests and everything felt fresh and full of heart. The rooms are compact but cozy, with an excellent, powerful hot shower. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming.

LuxembourgThe many steps you have to carry your luggage and more importantly the noise. We were situated with the view on the valley but the motocycles were very loud. Also the wind made a lot of noise. The problem is the very poor acoustic isolation of the rooms. They do provide ear-plugs for a reason.
The facility was very clean and the view was breathtaking. The breakfast was very good and the idea of the social project behind the concept of the hotel has to be supported. It’s amazing what they do with a part of the money of our stay.
