Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere’s a small pool but only two sun loungers which is a pity. But it’s only a short walk to a beautiful beach
Delightful good sized bungalows with balcony in a beautiful garden which attracts many birds as well as the occasional howler monkey. Helpful friendly staff make it a truly pleasant place to stay. There’s a well equipped communal kitchen with cooker and fridge though I missed having a fridge in the room. Coffee is provided free from 7 to 11 am. and there’s a good hot / cold water dispenser.

United StatesI like coffee available in my room or at least have it ready when the sun comes up. Holler Monkey's, birds, roosters, and dogs were all up and running before coffee was ready. Coffee wasn't served until 7am, I found that odd in a county that prides itself on its coffee, we had to get it elsewhere.
Very enjoyable clean cabanas in great location, nice pool area and small bar, most of the staff very friendly and helpful.

United StatesWe had booked and confirmed the "The Deluxe Suite" for our stay but it was already occupied and we were given "The Apartment Suite." It's a small thing and we didn't say anything but we would have liked the room we had researched and chosen. It did not detract from our stay.
Caribe Town Bungalows is a little paradise off the main strip in Playa Cocles - don't let the muddy alley fool you. It is a five minute walk to a spectacular beach and just a bit further to dining and grocery options. The grounds are beautiful and teeming with wildlife (sloths, monkeys, frogs, and more). Can't say enough good things about the staff - they were all so friendly and welcoming. Quiet and peaceful grounds, delicious food, and a chill vibe. Just what we were hoping for.

United KingdomThere was nothing I didn't like. Caribe Town was a great place to stay. There are great places to eat nearby. I particularly recommend Spicy Coconut.
I stayed for three nights in November. I loved this place. It felt slightly off the beaten track being out of town but had everything needed within a short distance. I loved the feeling that you were in the middle of the jungle. The owners were super friendly and gave great recommendations for where to eat and activities. The beach just opposite is absolutely beautiful. The cabin was gorgeous and all the little things had been considered, nice toiletries, plug by the mirror for drying hair etc. The bed was huge and super comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic. I always had the Special of the day. Do not miss Coconut French bread day!

AustriaYou will need the room with ac as it's almost impossible to get dry clothes without. If that is negative at all.
When arriving at the property you find yourself in the middle of the jungle. Trees, monkeys, fruits and other plants line the path. There is a pool and a bar and because of how it is laid out you have a good amount of privacy. The staff is friendly and the breakfast is great!

United StatesThe property is beautiful and walking distance to amazing restaurants and the beach. The deluxe suite was very spacious and comfortable with its own AC unit and a small living area with couch and coffee station next to the bed. We were served a different breakfast every morning and drank delicious cocktails at the bar. The best part of caribe town is the staff. Gillian was very friendly, personable and knowledgeable about things to do, where to eat, transportation, and local plant and animal info. The owners, Joel and karililly were such wonderful hosts, extremely friendly and down to earth. By the time we checked out, we were truly depressed that we had to leave such a wonderful place. Caribe town was the best hotel we’ve ever been to because of the way the owners and staff made us feel and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to the puerto viejo area. If you can, book a suite as they come with air conditioning but it may not be necessary if you’re used to the humidity.

Beautiful little tranquil place with a few little bungalows hidden away in the trees. Lovely bar area and small pool. A short walk to the sea. We had a sloth in the tree close to our bungalow a few times and lots of hummingbirds buzzing around. Staff were all lovely and really helpful. Couples massage was amazing. Breakfasts are incredible!

United KingdomNot many cheap eats in the area. But cannot fault the property at all.
So many wild animals on our doorstep including a baby sloth. The owners have created a wonderful environment to organically attract wild animals to the place. Loved the personal touch from the owners and staff always on hand to help out with maintenance issues and have a chat with us at the bar. The yoga studio was a great added bonus for a relaxing stay. Rooms very comfortable and we slept beautifully. Magic of the place is being woken in the morning by the sounds of birds and animals. Feel like you are in the jungle but also in close proximity to town and beaches. Will be back!

GermanyWe really loved our stay at Caribe Town. The place is calm, relaxing and clean. Waking up to the sound and colors of the of the jungle every morning was beautiful. In the garden we saw a sloth, frogs and long lines of ants crawling their way along the small path. As the bungalows are not right next to each other you won't hear any of the other guests. The breakfast was delicious (especially the Caribbean french toast), the staff is super nice and helpful. There were two well-behaved dogs who turned around when we told them to (important to us, my girlfriend is afraid of dogs). The beach is just a few meters away (but not for swimming though due to rip currents) and there's a few good restaurants nearby. So in sum we totally recommend this place.

United KingdomAbsolutely nothing! You do need to have realistic expectations, if you can't sleep with howler monkeys, crickets and the odd squirrel knocking coconuts off trees and making noise, take earplugs! Although the owners have even thought of that, as they were available in reception. We slept very well, it sounds like a live 'nature' sleeping song!
Wow, where to even start! We stayed for five wonderful nights. Everyone we met was utterly delightful. It's a real family business. The cabins are lovely. Airy, clean, plenty of shelves, and the bed was very comfortable. From the seating area outside we saw: lizards, humming birds, squirrels, agouti, and a mother sloth with her baby! You really are in paradise here. The beach is about a 1 minute walk, and it's a quiet beach, no worries about getting plenty of space to chill out alone. The sun rises over the sea here, and it's totally worth getting up early to see it. Just a couple of minutes along the beach are natural pools which are good to relax in. Breakfast is amazing. Every day a new special, which could always be made vegan for us. We had coconut French toast, avocado toast, scrambled tofu - all excellent. The newest member of staff (Celina /Selina?) made us so welcome, making sure we saw the baby sloth one morning, and making crazy coco loco cocktails. We also took a Yoga class with the owner Karalilly, which was such a beautiful way to spend an hour and really recharged us. We also did zumba one morning - great way to get the heart rate up and have a dance! It was the perfect place to relax after a crazy couple of weeks adventuring. And there's so much to do nearby, we went horse riding on the beach (lost my hat cantering!), surfing, and it was very easy and affordable to get tuk tuks into the main town. Also fantastic restaurants within a five minute walk (a great Indian, carribean and a super pretty beach-side bar). The supermarket is also only about 10 mins walk away (and was the first time we found great vegan options in CR). We would return in a heartbeat, and hope to come back for a yoga retreat sometime!

United KingdomI am a solo female traveller and wanted somewhere tranquil, safe and also easy to get around and this place was a little piece of paradise!! The hosts were amazing. They really care about their guests and are so friendly. I felt like I had known them for ages! They honestly make the stay really enjoyable. They had loads of suggestions on what to do and lots of boxing classes, yoga classes etc at the hotel which were great. The room was really nice in the jungle. You felt completely immersed and it had great facilities. The area is in a really good spot. You can walk directly onto the beach, or you can rent bikes to get around more. Just be aware that it is a jungle so you will hear lots of animals at night! My room didn't have glass windows, so it was a bit louder, however it's not a negative it's just an observation!

IrelandSleep was a bit of a challenge at times so bring ear plugs! There wasn't any storage to put things away in the rooms so our clothes felt damp from the rain. Also the toilet is only partially partitioned off so not a ton of privacy!
We definitely recommend Caribe Town if you like jungle sounds as it's pretty loud at night! The breakfasts were outstanding and the staff were so helpful and knowledgeable. We loved Puerto Viejo and the surrounding area. Our bungalow was incredibly clean and I had a lovely massage too. It was amazing to watch all the animals around and to see the resident sloths!

United KingdomOur quiet moments in Caribe Town Bungalows, (mornings 8 - 9.30am & afternoons 4 - 6pm) were largely interrupted by an open sports facility they have within Caribe Gardens, and positioned within meters of the lodge we were staying. This must be a popular local facility given it always seemed occipied during the day when we were there.. Continuous thumping of Boxing bags (judo or karate) ruins any tranquility offered by the gardens. Energetic group dancing/workout classes were also very noisy. This seems a little inappropriate during breakfast hours and those hours when guests have arrived back after a day out. 4 power cuts were experienced during our 2 night stay. We were told this was a local problem.
Great location. Easy access via tuktuks to local attractions. Staff very welcoming. Lodges rustic & comfortable. Breakfast good. We didn't use the pool, however it's more of a plunge/bar pool, rather than for swimming. Surrounding gardens very beautiful.
