Ljubljana, Slovenia
The location is perfect for the Old Town and City Centre, very close to the river. The Triple Bridge is less tha five minutes walk along the river's edge. The building is, as the name suggests, an old palace, a reminder of the country's past within the Hapsburg empire, with a wide staircase up to the first floor and a central lobby leading to an atrium. It is unlike a modern hotel (for good and ill). I had booked a double delux room. The second room I was given (I asked to be moved from the first) was spectacularly large with a massive bedroom, a small living room and a kitchen area with shower/toilet off it. The bed was very comfortable and clean. I would also like to thank the night receptionist who actually delivered what he said he would - he set in motion my transfer to another room and helped solve a problem with the night safe in my room.
This will be a long list. BUILDING The building is, I'm afraid, not so much showing its age as shouting it. The time and resources to maintain the structure and facilities is simply not being spent. Witihin the rooms, the furniture and fittings look tired and old (because they are) with doors and windows not closing properly. The central atrium has been left to rot and is, basically, where chairs and other furniture get thrown when they can no longer be used. In short, it's a tip. FIRST ROOM When I arrived I was shown to my room by the night receptionist. It was a large room but all a bit dank. The bed sheet had a large tear. Not good. I opened up one drawer to find it full of old landline phones. I also located a room safe only to find that the entire locking mechanism had been removed - a notice alongside said not to use it. Why you would is beyond me. More to the point, why would you put it there, then say don't use it? Basically, I decided it was because the room was where old items were being stored. I spoke to the receptionist and insisted I be moved to another room. Whilst he couldn't do it that night, he did set in motion my transfer to another, much, much better room the next day. BREAKFAST Very limited. There was no hot items available (unless you count warm croissants), just a small, cold buffet. It proved impossible to get any English breakfast tea through my entire stay. They had run out - which was odd because they were replenished in the rooms. STAFF All staff were very pleasant but the delivery was very patchy. A couple of staff did actually provide what they said they would - the room transfer was all done smoothly. But, too many times, staff said they would do something, then nothing would happen. Often these were small items, for example, asking for more soap to the room as it was running out. But they fact that you are assured this will be sorted, then nothing happens, just sours the whole thing.
Bohinj, Slovenia
A nice hostel on a superb location. Very friendely hosts. Great breakfast that will last you a day! From this location you can go swimming, biking or hiking, all very convenient. The use of mountainbikes, cayaks and SUPs is wonderful, as well as the use of the spa.
This has been one of our most expensive stays we had in Slovenia. On the basis that this is more a basic hostel than a hotel or luxury apartment, the price feels a bit high. There are numerous plus sides though so this might just be the place for you if you are looking for a great breakfast, convenient access to the lake and free use of mountainbikes, SUPs and cayaks, which we certainly appreciated. The area in front of the house could be cleaned up (concrete platform where tourist busses park) but this is probably something that the municipality should take on. Mostly you have wonderful views of the mountains and green areas.
Bled, Slovenia
Excellent property: very clean, beautifully decorated, with all the necessary amenities, with spacious rooms and located in a quiet area, but close to city attractions and good restaurants.
Everything was fine, there was nothing we could suggest for improvement
Postojna, Slovenia
First visit to a Youth hostel with my family. Kitchen facilities were excellent, rooms were clean and tidy with comfy beds. We share a 2 bunk (4bed) room as a family of 4.
A couple of activities that we felt the website led us to believe were on site (archery and rifle shooting) weren't. The staff weren't able to help us or give any further information on them other than to point us in the direction of another website.
