PNG is not the easiest travel to, it was actually one of the more challenging to plan as a solo traveller. Rabaul was my starting point in the country and Rabaul hotel gave me the much needed help to get started with my planning. They are ideally located in Rabaul and with great local knowledge and contact network it was for sure the most helpful hotel among the places I stayed during my stay. In the lack of a good tourist information they have made a great information leaflet that let you know just about everything you need to know about the area as a tourist. If they don't send it you should ask for it From the hotel it's a short distance to be picked up by boat for diving, snorkelling etc. The main attractions in the area is a short distance from the hotel or along the road from the airport. I highly recommend this hotel.
The hotel should be better at responding on whats app and booking messages, but they responded very quickly on mails. Hopefully it has improved since I planned my trip as I gave feedback on it.

It's still close to the airport. The only redeeming feature. The Jacksons Bar is very good.
The renovation seems to be taking forever and is very disruptive. When I checked in they were overbooked and the staff had to find an apartment nearby and gave me an "upgrade". Their admin processes are a bit shambolic like other hotels in the chain. Takes forever to check in and check out, so the queues can be quite long at reception.

Quiet and relaxing. Very friendly staff, alwaying smiling and ready to assist you.
Had to go through the restaurant where guest were eating to access the car park and the beachfront. Suggest creating a different pathway for carpark and beachfront access.

Only thing I enjoyed about this stay had to be the prompt room service.
This stay had to be my worst experience out of the many times I’ve chosen to stay at GPH. At first when entering the room, the carpet was literally damp and the odour was very unpleasant. Then the morning after I was forced to check out earlier than I usually would because the water stopped running.
