How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Dear Holly, Thank you for your positive feedback regarding our location and value. We appreciate your suggestion about the pillows and will take it into consideration for future improvements. Best regards, ibis budget Bern Expo

Verified reviewSuper easy to get from the central station to the hotel via a bus then tram.
Isolated location. No stores selling food or drinks anywhere near that we found. Also, must say that the breakfast at the IBIS hotel in Basel was a little bit better. When we ate there were absolutely no pastries and my wife says that a family just before her “turn” grabbed several of the larger croissants and the gentleman working at the time never did replenish any of the food on the line other than to add 4 new hardboiled eggs when 4 of them were taken. It may seem to a person looking/reading this review that I’m being picky but for $14 darn it, some breakfast pastries, especially in Europe, are a must have!

Verified reviewIt was close to BERNEXPO where I needed to work.
I am very disappointed with my stay at this hotel, at first everything was okay with my stay but when I left I forgot a garment in my room, and when I contacted the staff, I was told it “could not be found”. It is truly sad and unacceptable that a guest cannot feel the peace of leaving behind an object with the expectation of finding it again. This raises serious concerns about honesty and trust in the hotel staff. Unfortunately, this experience leaves me with no trust in the hotel, and I would not recommend it.
Dear Alexandra, Thank you for your message. We understand how frustrating it can be to misplace a personal item during a hotel stay. However, after thoroughly checking the room and following our established lost-and-found procedure — which includes a detailed room inspection by our housekeeping team — we can confirm that no garment was found. We stand by the integrity of our staff and our processes, and there is no indication that anything was mishandled in this case. While we regret that this has impacted your perception of our hotel, we kindly ask for your understanding that we cannot take responsibility for items that were not found on the premises. We wish you all the best for your future travels. Kind regards, Ian Kohler Front Office Manager Ibis & Ibis Budget Bern Expo

Verified reviewThe location was good for me as my office was just across the road. Close to public transport
The room was small and very basic, no separate bathroom, sound proof is poor, no tea/coffee facilities, no wardrobe. For 1 person it is ok, I can't imagine how crowded it becomes when 3 people are staying in this small room.

Verified reviewThe room was okay. The “double bed” was two separate beds with a pretty decent gap in between. The toilet for the room was a stall with a door that didn’t reach the floor or ceiling. The shower opens right into the room and had low pressure.

Verified reviewGreat stay on a budget, located 40m from main tram line to town, also close enough to walk aswell! Clean and good value for money room.
Very thin pillow provided to each of our three beds, went to lobby and asked for any spares and got told there were no spares in the entire hotel… just a bit hard to believe a 12 story hotel only holds the exact amount of pillows required 😂 or that every single spare was taken. Didn’t argue cause it’s just a pillow, but find it a bit unrealistic. Also, I’m from NZ, where bare feet are the normal and accepted in most casual scenarios, and when quickly popping down to the lobby barefoot in the evening to ask about the pillows above, I got asked “can you please not walk around barefoot, not appropriate” i totally get cultural differences, so could definitely be in the wrong, so apologised and appreciated the warning, but apon reflection, seemed a little specific as I clearly just popped down to ask about the pillows. Anyway rant over, only other complaint is that there is no fridge which would have been nice for storing cold foods for breakfast or drinks.

Verified reviewClean and nice
1. The room was hot in the night 2. We paid for 2 days parking but there was no space in the evening and hotel staff refused to refund. Finally, after some argument, she refunded the money. However, this should not happen in the first place. She was also not helpful when I requested her for guidance on where else I could park.
