How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

No airconditioning! In all fairness, it didn’t say there was airco on the booking, but I just sort of figured it would.
Location was perfect as can be. Staff (in the main hotelbuilding, the unmanned guesthouse is 2 mins walk away) was friendly and helpful. Rooms were (very) basic but clean and in good state. If you close the windows you hear nothing from outside noise

The airport shuttle is in fact not an airport shuttle at all. You must take a tour of the hotels for an hour before it eventually drops you off at the airport.

We felt very welcome at the hotel and staff were friendly and very helpful. We came with bikes and bags and there was great generosity with storing bikes and luggage Thanks for your efforts.

Room was a bit warm and the fan was very loud. Room was not cheap but that's everywhere in Zurich I guess...

The hotel has no elevator. You may need to carry your luggage up 3 flights of stairs.
The hotel is an easy walk from the train station. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable.

Unfortunately, we visited during a peak heat week. We stayed in the Guesthouse with no air conditioning, and unfortunately, the hotel ran out of fans. Our room was a sauna. 😢
The hotel is in a fantastic location!! The staff was also very helpful and kind.

The property could use some deep cleaning in a few places. The bed and bedding were just OK. There was no AC.

We had to go from the Guesthouse to the main Hotel for coffee in the morning.
Location was amazing with easy access to transportation. No car necessary to visit important sites around Zurich.

1. No electric kettle, though it was provided on demand. 2. The experience of non-functional lift, especially because the steps of the stairs are high. 3. Having to pay extra because we couldn't use stairs and had to shift to the Hotel. 4. The message from the property didn't mention that reception is in a different building than that given in the address. The reception at Alexander Hotel was about 150 yards away, but in a different street. It took me 20 minutes and some asking before I could solve the mystery of reception.
1. This review is actually for the Alexander Hotel and not the guesthouse as we shifted to the hotel because the lift in Guesthouse wasn't working. We had to pay extra for this forced shifting. Alexander Hotel room was better than the smaller guesthouse room. 2. Efficient and helpful staff. 3. Free coffee and water at the reception. 4. The location was great.

Unfortunately there is no fridge or kettle in the room, which is a deal breaker for me. The walls are also extremely thin - I could hear the person in the room next door having a long facetime conversation, and the footsteps of the room above were too loud.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, bed was super comfortable and the shower was great. My room was very clean, pillows were excellent! Plenty of space for hanging up clothes which is handy for a business traveller. Windows are super thick, so even though it's in the centre of the old town, you don't hear too much from outside. The proximity to restaurants and the lake is fantastic, as is the value for money, given that Zurich is one of the most expensive cities in the world.
