How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

No staff The room was not ready, even after 4pm. The stairs are very steep which makes them hardly accessible. The breakfast is not qualitative, you have to walk to a cafeteria and there were almost no vegetarian options available. It is poor based on the price we pay. We wish you informed us earlier about the full digital system with electronic cards and no reception, as it was quite impractical.

Verified reviewThe property was a beautiful old building in a great location, only 15 minute walk to the city centre.
As the building was old you could hear people moving on different floors and in the hallways. The bathroom had seen better days and the shower was tiny. It was a virtual check in so no one was there to help you check in. The room was not properly cleaned before our arrival - it seemed that only the surfaces were cleaned, under the bed has so much dust it was disgusting. Also - more of a bookings.com issue but the property was sold as parking included but it did not specify that it was $25 a night for parking.

Verified reviewThe room was located in a very nice area, right next to a street with shops and within walking distance from the old town, which was great as we didn’t need to use a car. The bed was extremely large and comfortable, and there was also a coffee machine with capsules, which was a nice addition.
On the downside, the window of the room faced an interior space of the hotel where various items were stored. While there was some natural light coming through, the window could not be opened to let in fresh air, which was a bit inconvenient.

In a four day stay no staff were present for reception, housekeeping, tourist advice . The only communication is by telephone to an offsite assistant . No cleaning of basin , shower etc There is no lift as advised but the stairs are steep with no staff to assist with cases The a/c was old and very noisy when cutting in There was no evidence of fire alarm, fire excavation procedure , fire exit signage fire signage with no staff on site apart from phoning Although a good kitchen and dining area were present they were not in use . Breakfast tokens were left in our room but with no written directions as to where the cafe was Entry to the front and bedroom door was no user friendly . Only by link on mobile which did not always work I

That said, we remain available by phone, text, WhatsApp, or email to answer questions, provide tourist recommendations, or assist with any needs. Should it be necessary, we can also send someone on-site to help, for example, with luggage. Our housekeeping service is scheduled every two days, and we sincerely apologize that it did not occur during your stay. We are following up with our team to ensure this does not happen again. We also apologize for the difficulties you experienced with the A/C, mobile entry, kitchen and dining area usage, and any confusion with the breakfast tokens. Verified reviewFun little property, well kept and lots of character. Just about a km from the main busy center, so was a nice walk home and the space was very quiet at night. Beds were super comfy and the space was great.
More secure spot for luggage drop off before check in would have made it a little less stressful.

The check-in is done through digital keys. It is fine...in theory. We booked for 3 nights yet when we returned to our hotel after an outing the first morning of our stay we were blocked from entering the premises. It took a while to solve the problem. Rather disconcerting. It is strange that no humain appeared after the mix up.

Everything done remotely. No staff at reception desk. You had to call if you had questions. The digital key system did not work. The room was very stuffy at night.

- we needed more information in text message that provided the electronic "key" on how to use the "key" to open and lock the room door, we had to text to obtain more direction and noticed others did too - no person was ever at the reception desk

Verified reviewNice room, overall nice hotel. Did the trick for a 3-night stay in Quebec City for work. Price was fair, but there are no amenities at the hotel.
There is no reception at the hotel. If you need assistance, it can be hard to find. For instance, there was no hand soap in the bathroom and it wasn't easy to get help. Rooms are not soundproof.

There's no front desk and everything has to be done by phone with Internet. For tourists, this is simply not a good idea, right? If your phone runs out of battery, you can't get into the hotel and you can't contact anyone to help. I had to call to speak to someone to check in from outside the hotel, carrying all my stuff. Very inconvenient. And we need an app to open and close our room's door too. We had a problem with this, we had to contact the staff (by text) and they just gave us a solution one hour later. We had a tour scheduled and had to leave our room unlocked because of that. Closing our room's door shouldn't be complicated.
