How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAbel was super accommodating and generous with us. The apartment is located just outside of the village which we enjoyed the peace and quiet. Bikes were provided for us, and it was about a 10 minute ride to town.
No AC in the apartment but several fans.

Verified reviewThe property is in a very scenic location. It’s also quite spacious, with a separate living space. It has pool which is great for Caye Caulker weather. The cats and dogs are gorgeous and friendly. Also, the neighbours daughter who assisted us in Abel’s absence was lovely and offered some great tips, while Abel himself was kind enough to drive us to the village ferry terminal
There were a number of things that got in the way of our stay being fully comfortable. The whole space was sweltering hot, and there were no ceiling fans or AC. Instead there were 3 very loud standing fans, two of them without front covers. Everything on the property is rusty. The fridge was unplugged and warm when we came in and it would get warm during the day. The bathroom door Wasnt closing, the pool water was not cleaned. It was very thoughtful of Abel to have offered us bikes to get to the village, but they were in very bad shape, rusty, wirh their pedals getting stuck. There was a brief outage during our stay—fortunately, it was fixed very quickly.

Verified reviewThe apartment is located in a very quiet area in the southern part of the island. The host is very kind - he let us bicycles for free for the whole duration of our stay to move around the island and he even let us borrow kayaks! He also offered to change our bed linens and towels after a couple of days because we were staying there longer, which was very nice of him.
Unfortunately when we went there the sea and the docks in front of the apartment were full of seaweed, so it was impossible to bathe there. It was probably a seasonal issue because other places in the island had a similar situation.

Verified reviewWonderful space, great shower and comfortable bed. A little kitchenette too. We only stayed one night so didn’t get to enjoy all the facilities but the views and ambiance were so lovely.
It is a bit far from town. If you want an easy walk into town it maybe not for you, especially if you like to stay out late because the paths get really dark. Would be good with golf cart too. And a nice bike ride (but maybe not in dark) If you love isolation and quiet it’s really beautiful and for nature lovers!

Verified reviewWe absolutely loved this remote property. Abel made us feel like we were at home & his pup, Neptune, was so sweet! We enjoyed being away from the crown & having bicycles to adventure around.

Verified reviewWe really loved our short stay at The Novelo and wish we had been able to spend more time here! The house is beautiful, the pool is awesome and we loved the calm location with sea views. With the bikes it was very nice and easy to get into town and a beautiful little adventure in the evening. The owner is a very welcoming and helpful host! I would always choose this place over the city centre, it’s such a gem and delivered such awesome Caye Caulker vibes!
Our room didn’t have too much daylight but it helps with the heat!

Verified reviewGreat addition to The Novelo. This brand new studio where we just stayed on the first floor is outstanding. In the early morning you see the sun rising over the Belize Barrier Reef, there is no better way to start the day. Even from the sofa inside, you have the greatest view of the turquoise waters of the Caribbean sea in front of you. It is a big unit with all the comfort and privacy, offering ample spaces, lots of sunlight, a big bathroom, big sofa, a kitchen area, and of course, the ample open veranda with two chairs and a big table overlooking the sea. The studio has windows all around so the breeze keeps it cool and refreshing; it also has two fans at the sides of the bed but we didn't really need them. The Novelo is a 10 min short bicycles ride away from the village, with a swimming pool and free kayaks and bicycles. We can't wait to return a next time and be welcomed by Abel, who is a great host taking real care of his clients and all their needs.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and we are looking forward to hosting you again!

Verified reviewThis accommodation is great if you like to be a bit more quiet area but restaurants/cafes etc. were very easily accessible by complimentary bikes. Apartment is very spacious. Great views! Nice pool/hangout area. The owner is super friendly and even gave us a ride into town at check out.
Nothing really. The kitchen could have used a few more utilities maybe.

Verified reviewA very spacious apartment at the quieter end of the island. The owner, Abel, was very friendly and helpful, made us feelat home and even gave us a lift back for our early ferry departure. Although a bit of a trek into the centre - about a 20 minute walk, there were bikes and head torches available to use. There was a small pool and a pier in front of the property that you could sit on and watch the sunset.
The apartment is quite "quirky" and a little old-fashioned and may not suit those looking for something more modern, but it was spacious and comfortable. Unlike the front unit, it didn't have a porch to relax on, which would have been nice, but there were chairs by the pool.

Verified reviewAbel is a gem in Belize! He made sure that our stay was amazing and comfortable from start to finish. The location was a perfect distance from the hustle and bustle of town. We used the bikes he provided to ride to town- he also drove us on his golf cart to town and to drop us off at the water taxi. 10/10, I would recommend!!!!!!

Verified reviewFor us, The Novelo was the perfect place to vacation in Caye Caulker. I agree with many other previous comments: Abel is the perfect host, he made our stay fantastic! The apt is a short ride from the village in the bicycles he puts at our disposal. We loved riding all day along the little island, i would never miss that, so much fun. The unit where we stayed is brand new, the one with A/C , though we didnt use it, just the fans and the breeze were enough. The best way to start the day was sipping a coffee in the sitting area in our private verandah. Also the swimming pool is super nice, just for the use of the three units. The free kayaks and the outdoor bbq are interesting too, though we didnt have the time to use them.

Verified reviewHost Abel was great! The bicycles are a great way to get around the island.
The pool area is not kept up as good as it should. There is only one sunbed, so we ended up not spending any time there.

Verified reviewThe property is on the outskirts of town, but we really appreciated that. The owner picked us up in his golf cart and delivered us to the dock when we left, and lent us two beach cruiser bikes to ride the ten minutes to town, which made us feel like locals. He also provided a kayak which we took out a once for a stunning sunset ride, and we also made us of the dock near his property to sit quietly in the shade and gaze out at the blue water. The swimming pool is small but cleaned daily, and perfect for one or two people (my husband and I got to enjoy it for ourselves for morning swims). The older unit is funky and artistic, while the newer unit has AC and a modern look.

Abel was excellent host he helped us when we were tired of riding the bikes to get to the main road. Also he helped me with booking the dives at the blue hole and it was great.

Verified reviewWe liked the beautiful location as it was relatively remote, had gorgeous panaramas and little road traffic. The roads south of the airport are worse than those in town and getting a taxi can be difficult. The Blue Room was large and adequately furnished. Abel, the host, was very helpful and engaging. The room came with bicycles that made it easy to get around the Caye. It is unique on Caye Caulker.
A coffee maker would have been nice but we didn’t request one, our fault. Also would have liked filtered water in the five gallon bottles.
