How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewCentral location where next to the ferry station to Caye Caulker or San Pedro. Fridge and drinking water were equipped. The Aircon ran well.
The room was a bit of small.

Verified reviewI stayed at the Belize Maya Cabana for several nights. The location is simply fantastic. From my window, I could see the ferry to Caye Caulker/San Pedro. The rooms are equipped with air conditioning, but unfortunately, the kitchen/common area isn't. A fan might have been a good idea. The bathroom is shared, but otherwise, you have your privacy. The surrounding area, or rather Belize City, isn't exactly a tourist hotspot. There isn't much to see. There's an ATM, a few supermarkets, and restaurants nearby. I just went shopping the whole time; it's the easiest thing to do. The Wi-Fi was very stable the whole time. The hotel is owned by a travel agency, so you can also book tours right away if you want. It's not a 3-star hotel, but it's perfectly adequate for a few days in Belize before continuing on to the island. If you're looking for luxury, this isn't the place for you.

Verified reviewThe room was simple and small but clean and comfortable. Very close to the ferry terminal.
The neighborhood at night was not safe. It was very hard to find the person (a neighbor) to give us the key to get in.

It was in a dangerous neighborhood and the facilities were very unsafe- the cab driver said I should not go out at night and it would be unsafe for me to stay so I moved hotels
Mrs. Amanda I respect your fear. However, you did not even stayed in the room you had booked because of what your taxi driver told you and I have no problem with that because I respect people's choices. You decide not to stay and that was fine. Moreover, I asked that if you would not stay to kindly cancel the reservation so other guests can see it is available. it was not done plus you did not paid for the room you had reserved with us. was not paid. Like I say it's fine you didn't paid because you didn't stayed with us. But would have appreciated if you would have canceled it so i could have it open for someone else that would have wanted to stay with us. we have had many other women stay with us you were not the first one. women from all parts of the world but I understand and respect your choice of not staying and sleeping with us not one night.

Verified reviewGreat location.
The kitchen area is like an oven during the day. Even with aircon in full blast, the room doesn’t cool down. At night it was good, but not during the day.

Verified reviewThe AC was great. I suffer from the heat, so that's important to me. The location is almost perfect,; close to the ferries and central part of town. They also had a nice refrigerator for guests.
The lock on the bathroom was finicky. You never could tell if it was going to spring open even if locked. I had a hard time getting a second towel through five days. These things don't bother me too much, but should be mentioned.

Verified reviewGreat location in the heart of the city. Everything of note was walking distance. Friendly and helpful owners. Excellent wifi.
A little expensive for the quality of the room. It was fine for a solo traveller, but would have been a squeeze for a couple

Verified reviewAmazing 2-bedroom shared flat with all the amenities you need (drinkable water, fridge, kettle, coffee, books, good wifi, toiletries, towels, AC, super comfy beds etc.). The hosts are super kind and helpful (they also run a tour agency, Epic Mayan Tour, and sent someone to pick me up at the airport, which was great). The location is perfect, barely a 10 second walk to the ferry terminal going to Caye Caulker, San Pedro etc. There are restaurants within a 5-min walk, as well as a nice little museum on Belize a minute away. Overall a great place to stay and I’d definitely stay there again!
was a pleasure having you over. thank you

Verified reviewCoffee and kitchenette facilities, couch in living area all great to have. The lock on the share bathroom didn’t work which was a bit unsettling to have a shower when there’s other people staying. The rooms are also not in a very safe neighbourhood, a local belizean friend told me so, but luckily the spot is a close walk to the San Pedro ferry and fort st the tourist area so I could easily get back to the room without much fuss.. The staff were a bit confusing, they could’ve told me the rooms had no sign but to look out for the epic Mayan tour mural, it would’ve saved me walking 10 min up the street with two bags in the middle of the day- with this basic instruction. Luckily a local helped me find it. I also had 1 hour to sort out payment before my tour but there was no discussion about it so I had to do this at an inconvenient time as there was no workers around when I came back form my tour at 5pm. They will conveniently organise a ride to the airport for you.
Hi Esther, you arrived early yesterday which I gladly allowed you to have an early check in in your room 1 hour before check in time. I asked you if you will be doing the payment with credit card or cash since you were going to go on a tour and you said you would pay cash. I left the office around 5pm and you hadn't arrived. So I asked my neighbor to get the payment from you. I also coordinated your airport shuttle for 5.30am. I even called you at night to tell you the name of the driver that would take you in the morning. Your Belizean friend maybe the one living in a dangerous neighborhood. Belize is no Saint country But like anywhere in the world if you are out late hours and by yourself and in places you shouldn't be it is dangerous not only in Belize.
