Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaHebert is the best host! Super welcoming, he's gonna tell you where to go and what to do on his beautiful island and trust me he's ready and knows what's he's doing. Also important to mention as a solo lady I felt comfortable and secure. If you're looking for an affordable stay it's the place to go in Aruba. Aruba Backpackers I'll be back !

United StatesSince we brought our backpacks and bikes, this place fit our needs perfectly. The host was helpful with our day-to-day activities and recommended his favorite things to do and destinations. His gardens were our favorite aspect of the property. It was very helpful that the host was able to store our items between check out and the departure of our flight for a small fee. You'll get your money's worth here! Definitely worth every penny.

CanadaHerbert bombarded me with messages before my trip. Had to ask him to stop texting. I arrived and was super sick. Although he seemed kind, check in took 2.5 hours. This guy does not take a hint. When someone tells you they're nauseous, you check them in and let them rest. His energy was off. As a woman traveling solo, I expected to meet other travelers. Instead it was just the man who lives there who talks non-stop to the point he followed around wanting to hang out. The place is too far to walk to anywhere. I work online and the internet didn't work so I had to run around the neighborhood, sick, looking for a sim card. It was a $60 round trip taxi to the nearest beach (which I paid for so I didnt have to deal with the host). I found clumps of hair and that was the final straw. I paid for new accomodation and left less than 24 hours after arrival. Despite showing Herbert the hair, and despite offering to pay a 50% cancelation fee, he kept my money. I can't recommend this place. Couldn't leave fast enough and I wish I hadn't even stayed the one night.
I wish I could say something positive but there's nothing.

United KingdomThe bed is uncomfortable (fine for 2-3 nights, but challenging for a week-long stay) and there is no hot water in the RV (to be honest, with Aruba's climate, it doesn't take long to get used to cold showers). The tea/coffee maker is actually an Italian-style stovetop percolator (although when I left, Herbert was considering changing this to a cafetiere). There are no curtains, so privacy is an issue, especially as Herbert likes to patrol the grounds at night (there was one occasion, where I woke around midnight and was hungry, so made some food and was sitting, naked, at the dining table at the exact moment that Herbert shone his torch through the window!) - however, the gardens are enclosed so nobody other than the landlord is likely to encroach on your privacy. Herbert did, before I arrived, install a wi-fi booster, but this didn't work, so there was no wi-fi (my advice would be to buy a SIM card on arrival at the airport - it's relatively expensive, at $20 for a week's coverage, but that includes unlimited wi-fi calls and texts, as well as (if I remember correctly) 60 minutes of international calls and gives coverage across the island (except Arakok National Park). It wasn't perfect, but you won't find better value accommodation in Aruba, nor a better host than Herbert.
The location of the property (a static RV in the landlord's large garden) is ideal: easy walking distance (30 minutes) from Queen Beatrix Airport and from Oranjestad, with bus links to most parts of the island also close; in addition, there is a large supermarket just five minutes' walk away. Herbert was a brilliant, friendly and helpful host, who insisted on meeting me in the supermarket's cafe so I didn't get lost (although if you enter "Aruba Backpackers" into Google Maps, it will take you straight there), as the road numbering in Cumana can be confusing. The property is totally self-contained, with cooking via a 2-ring gas hob (all crockery and cookware is provided) and an outside seating area in the sunshine. There are mosquito nets at all windows (although you do have to peg these into place yourself) and a bathroom with toiletries provided. There is even a cool box under the dining table equipped with beach towels and other items one might need for the beach.
