How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLocation is really nice with a very nice room and rooftop with a view.
Parking instructions weren’t clear and we had to pay for a parking close to the property. Free parking mentioned on booking is about 10 minutes walk at the bottom of the hill and reaching the property with luggages from there is quite tiring.

Verified reviewThe location and quality of the hotel are perfect. The owner-operators are wonderful people. That said, there is one inconvenience worth mentioning. There is no free parking near the hotel, and you are required to pay 10 euros if you want your car to be nearby.

Verified reviewPerfect to experience a stay surrounded by traditional features (yet modern en suite facilities) with views across Berat from communal, shady terrace.
Bottled water provided in room at additional cost, higher than any restautant visited throughout Albania-be prepared and bring your own. In this popular tourist destination, highly unlikely to find free parking nearby although this was stated online. Charged €10 per day for parking arranged via host, with additional hourly charge after our 10am check-out time. As stated online, air-con in room that works but limited effect as doesn't fan. Traditional breakfast provided that was adequate if everything to your taste, but in very limited portions. Juice and local coffee served with breakfast, but again no free bottled water. Guests need to be aware that the hillside location (giving amazing views) means there is a climb via cobbled steps-pack light! Left feeling that you were an inconvenience or had caused offence by some interactions with hosts. Found more welcoming and cheaper places to stay with same beautiful views as explored area.

Verified reviewOur stay at Vila Aleksander was exceptional. Our room was beautiful with lots of charm and good AC. The terrace view was unreal and it was so lovely to enjoy for breakfast and in the evenings after our day. Aleksander also went above and beyond, giving us recommendations and helping us connect with tours and a driver. We also got to fall in love with their sweet castle doggo Kiko, who was such a sweetheart.
Unfortunately there is not great public transport nearby but that is of no fault of Aleksander and the Vila.
Thank you very much 😘 😘

It was not a problem for us - but access is via a number of cobbled steps so won’t suit everyone.

Verified reviewWe highly recommend this accomodation. I don’t think you could do any better than this in Berat. The family that own this place are so welcoming, generous, helpful with planning your activities and go above and beyond. There are 2 beautiful terraces we lounged on to admire the stunning view over Berat. It’s easy to walk to all restaurants, cafes, supermarkets & even the castle. The breakfasts were on the rooftop terrace with beautiful music & food straight from their garden. They also had a cute dog Kiko that loves the guests and greets them. The attention to detail was shown with clean rooms and room cleaned. Communication was exceptional. The villa itself is incredibly beautiful and well kept for. Highly recommend listening to Aleksander himself talk about the history of the villa and restoration renovation.
Nothing. It was exceptional.
thank you very much 😘😘

Verified reviewReally nice host.
Its too far up the hill. Not easy with a baby at all. Even without baby its nearly impossible to bring your luggage upstairs, its far too steep. Even the price is to much for this place-location. Biggest red flag is the parking. On booking it states it is free but it is €10 for some poor space outside in the sand and sun and need to be removed after checkout. The same day we checked out and went to Portik hotel free underground secure parking. Even if you dont stay it is €8 for 24h

Verified reviewLovely property , ran by amazing owners Close walk to town centre Lovely local breakfast
Suitcases up the stairs. Hard for people with mobility issues. Would benefit from something to pull suitcases up. Air con didn’t work well in room , was a fan only. Would stay again as owners are lovely.

Verified reviewWe were warmly welcomed by Alexander, who takes pride in his family hotel. It is a really beautiful small hotel with views out over the city towards the mountains. Very clean and authentic to the traditional decor. The open veranda was exceptional. We dined in one evening - home cooked delicious food. We weren’t offered a choice of menu, but that added to the experience. Limited wine choice to a small selection of quality wines.

The owners are friendly and care about making sure you have a great time. The hotel's view of Berat and surrounding countryside is incredible. Breakfast was a highlight - everything was fresh and homemade, made from homegrown produce.

Verified reviewThe hotel was gorgeous. The rooms were lovely, particularly the deluxe double (which slept three) - lots of historic character. The terrace at the top of the hotel had an amazing view, and the flowers on the way up were stunning. The location was great.
The owner/manager was very keen to do the best for his guests, but didn't quite get things spot on.
